furthermore, if you do not accept that Albanians had NOTHING to do w/ Ottoman history/expansion we cannot even have this conversation. There would be NO Sultanate security w/ out them. At a certain point Turkish/Alb/Bosn history got so intermingled that today people only define themselves relative to Statehood and geographic location.
@okaecoral Albanians, as many other invaded nations, might have fought for the Ottoman empire; however, it's not because they wanted to--it was because they were forced to--and that makes a huge difference. Though I'm not aware of Albanians being particularly significant. Anyways, nowadays we're having much better relations with Turkey than, say, 100 years ago, and it's really good that we've overcome all those years of conflict and now support each other.
@endritif2 it's great that u say that, I can see you clearly understand. However, I would like to say; although, the Ottoman practice of devshirmeh (Tribute of Children) can be viewed as shocking, looking back at history, some of the most notable Balkan figures grew up in the system (i.e Vlad Tepes(h), Skenderbeg, Radu Cel Frumos, etc.). Hence, a lot of Albanians grew in military skill and todays Navy Seals/ Secret forces use the Janissary system as a model template. Not bad for a small country
@okaecoral Alright. Now that our discussion has come to an end, I'd be curious to know where are you from? I have an impression that I'll be surprised.
I hope this will serve to others as an example of a civilized youtube discussion. xD.
@endritif2 My parents are Tajiks from Kabul, Afghanistan. I move around, but I am currently writing you from the New York City area. A pleasure. Yes, civilized indeed and always. I couldn't find the link to add you as a member/friend so please feel free to do so (add me). Felemnderit.
@okaecoral Albanians were not vital to the Ottoman cause at any point in the history. Please note that it was Albanian resistance that stopped the Ottoman penetration of Europe borders for 25 years, under the leading of the Albanian prince Gjergj Kastrioti. The latter was violently taken from his parents at age 9 and sent to Turkey to become a soldier. This way the Ottomans could control the Albanian princes so they don't revolt: by taking their children and giving them Turkish names(eg Skender)
No dear, I am NOT from Turkey. First off by "your people" I meant Balkan, irrespective of Eastern or Western. The Article has a bibliography and just as you are skeptical about all allegations against Mr. Thaci, it can be the opposite as well. I am SURE you have thought about it. Moreover, some of the most influential the Janissary/ Jeniçer were Albanian
@okaecoral Well, if you fail to realize that there are different nations in the Balkans, then I don't expect you to understand the Balkan wars either.
and I applaud the Kosovo efforts of resistance. My only argument is that Thaci is accused of many things, and I do NOT care if they were atrocities towards the enemy combatants, heck that is war. But the allegations go that some were against his own people, which for arguments sake we will not argue about and hope for the best. Furthermore, the ICTY was created for all former- Yugoslavia. Hence, the Serbian argument is "Thaci - free, Oric - free, Mladic - free". So it MUST be comprehended.
@okaecoral Yes he's being accused, but no evidence-just words of a man who never saw anything. If there is evidence then he should be put in trial, no doubt about that. If he, or anyone else, has committed crimes, he should go to prison, but I say again: there MUST be evidence. And we will not worry about what Serbs say and the comparisons they make because so far they have shown a lack of objective thinking, so we will disregard their opinion.
@okaecoral Written by my people? I don't think so. Please see in the end that the article is written by "ANDREEA C ZUGRAVU", a Romanian student in the United States. That article is full of sarcasm, and it is clear from the very beginning that is biased. And look at the sources of the article: they're almost all NEWSPAPERS. How reliable is an article with newspapers sources, for God's sake? It's like me writing a school project and citing Wikipedia.
lol. it's not about religion. does June 28, 1389 mean anything to you? Kosovo is Sacrifice. Serbs bemoan Lazar's death, how about we bemoan Sultan Murad's death.
@okaecoralI'm not Albanian, but if it means to honor the Muslims of that land who put their lives on the line, in certain cases absolute poverty, by living their, I would be in Prishtina on the next flight. I honor them as I honor Mr. Thaci b/c no matter what his past, he too put his life on the line. but we must be fair.
@okaecoral What you mean by "we"? Like Albanians and the Turks. Let me remind you that Albanians used to be Catholic at that time, so it's not about religion. Are you from Turkey? :D
I do believe that the endeavors for peace by the Albanian people during this time was justified, however brutal or forceful the tactics were because of the way in which they were treated by their oppressors. However, to make strides in effort put Haradinaj in government or even as prime minister is wrong, especially as his trial is ongoing. The people of Kosovo really should re evaluate the people that run their country.
@bastianwence Thank you. However, I'd like to remind you that, unless proved otherwise, a person shall not be considered guilty, and that's what people in Kosovo have done-- they have kept believing in those that led them through war and struggle. This is normal and common in almost every past-war country.
I believe he's not guilty, and he will prove that to everyone (for the second time). Time will show whether I'm right.
Other than that, we should indeed be careful whom we trust our country.
There can be no DOUBT that Hashim Thaci is a monster. His OWN soldiers have said to me, in words, face to face. Conversely, I believe Mr. Haridinaj; although, not an angel, I wouldn't classify as a monster. Meaning, anyone in war has to make tough decisions, Furthermore, if Mr. Haradinaj is a monster then that means Ahmad Shah Massoud was a monster, and he was not Again, in war, men have to make tough decisions, which may be frowned upon but understandable. There is no possible way to communicate with inbreeds such as yourself, so I try to make it a rule to never argue with morons. As i dont want to stoop to your level of stupidity.
But its not all your fault. I blame your parents.
If your parents werent brother & sister, then maybe you would have been semi normal?
Anyway, i suggest castration as the best option for you. That way you cannot contaminate the rest of the world. However i think its way too late for Kosovo and albania :-)
@okaecoral How much do you know about Hashim Thaci (whom you call "the snake") really? Only as much as you've read in Serbian news, right? Well, there have been investigations against him but, as for now, he's not guilty. So stop judging people, and be an intelligent person. Crimes such as those he's being accused of were logically impossible to occur at that time.
Now I don't support him as a politician, but he's not a criminal unless evidence (which by now is 0) suggests so.
@endritif2 do you even know why I am referring to him as "The Snake?" I can tell from the few words you have dispersed you do not know much about him, his history, his case, etc. So I will disregard anything you have said. Furthermore, we live in a world where criminals tend to pass as good guys, just look at the former Yugoslavia. Look at Colombia, look at AFGHANISTAN... lol. so please just go back to studying.
@okaecoral He used to refer to himself as "the snake" because if he used his real name, Serbian army (unable to catch him), would go after his family. What makes you think that you know about him more than I do? Enlighten us.
Yes, indeed criminals often are temporarily regarded as nice people, but that's how the world works these days. If you can give me evidence(not what D. Marty says), then I shall change opinion about Thaci... till then, he's a war hero (and a bad politician).
@endritif2 wa la ta-ta be eou xoot-too-wa tee-shaitan. Ina hoo la koom eadoowoom-moobeen. I don't blame him for hugging and kissing M. Albright but the implications go beyond that. Look at his past while he was a student at the U. of Pristina till the time he went to Switzerland. At this time Ibrahim Rugova was promulgating what Azim Vllasi was saying, Autonomy for Kosovo.
@okaecoral I don't speak Arabic. And probably neither do you. So now you go to his time as a student? Oh come on, really? And it's spelled "Universiteti i Prishtines" not Pristina :D
The independence of Kosovo was only a matter of time. Every nation will eventually revolt against ethnic violence and apartheid.
@endritif2The same people who boosted Naser Oric out of Srebenica found a young and charismatic Albanian who preferred violence over political solutions. You have a lot of reading to do Vla.
@okaecoral I don't know much about Oric, but no doubt he was a great savior of Bosnians. I don't see how you relate Oric and Bosnians into all this though.
Charismatic, young Albanians, who realized that the only way to freedom was through a justified armed resistance, were MANY, not just Hashim Thaci. Our country, fortunately, is full of them. When peace fails, and the only way to survival is war, people will fight. They always will.
@endritif2 Furthermore, I am NOT even Serbian so I could NOT SEE ANYTHING on their news and understand it. Which goes to show you are already 2 steps back by pre-judging yourself. And although I do not HATE Thaci and understand the significance of him being in power over Rugova, but just so you walk away a little more enlightened, the ICTY is a farse. Anyone can say if Thaci is free, if Oric is free, then Mladic should by default be free. Yes. It ruins muslim-orthodox relations.
@okaecoral It's just that it's VERY common that Serbs, influenced by their media(which has often been criticized for being very biased), come by and make illogical stupid comments.
I don't understand what you mean by "muslim-orthodox" relations. I'm a Muslim and let me tell you that the war, seen from the Albanian side, wasn't at all about religion, though it was a bit when seen from the Serbian side. There are many Catholic and Orthodox Albanians, and we regard them equally as brothers.
@kspatriot92 I agree with you. The Serbs want to rewrite history to suit their own purposes. The truth: Serbians are guilty of massive war crimes. Serbs have no shame or any sense of remorse. Serbia is a nation that lost its conscience a long time ago.
@joel1923 im Muslim and have been to Serbia, I think your analysis is filled w/ hate and totalitarian. In 1989, the student from Belgrade University gathered in front of the Moscova Hotel to protest against the elements w/ in the Serbian government that had sided, for financial gains, with foreign interests in dividing Yugoslavia. We clearly see a rift in internal perceptions on Unity. NOT ALL Serbs, not all Kosovars are like this. If Milosevic was smart he would have listened to Azem Vllasi
NOT guilty! He is not like Mladic, hiding in the shadows, he was a prime minister who willingly turned him self in to clear his name, and he has cleared his name. Whether you agree or disagree with his politics, he is a hero of the people.
@lonizzcertified Everyone knows Oric, Thaci, and Ramush showed up @ Den Haag b/c they were, prior to even showing up, promised by the ISI of Pakistan/ CIA (via negotiations w/ the CIA & USSD) that they would be acquitted. COMMON KNOWLEDGE from the underground.
@okaecoral yeah what does your under ground knowledge say about why they have a retrial? I mean the CIA and ISI is so powerful. Please the guilty run, our heroes are out in the open. Yours have been running from accusations of genocide.

To hell with the Serbians.

COMMON KNOWLEDGE from the underground.
okaecoral 5 months ago
@okaecoral yeah what does your under ground knowledge say about why they have a retrial? I mean the CIA and ISI is so powerful. Please the guilty run, our heroes are out in the open. Yours have been running from accusations of genocide.
