And to think, This group didn't like this song and didn't think that it was going to go anywher for them. Oh how wrong they were. One of the most beautiful love songs in history. But that's just my judgement.
Well this of course is always related to the late and very very great Barry. RIP, you are always with us, a reminder of how love might be but never is, how i wish i could have spent just one day in this state of mind, sigh
I was a third grader when this song hit. My classmates and I would always be at the radio just so that we could talk about what we heard the night before. This song, for me is associated with that time in my young life. WVON was the radio station that was the listened to. Nicknamed the "Black Giant" it was. Long before there was "urban contemporary." There was just music. This was also before the corporations took over radio.
HOLLY SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have not heard this since I was 7! I somehow remember the "I love walking in the rain...." part all my life. As a kid I nearly got in some major trouble because I thought the singers were saying "f-ing". So this morning on 2011 I typed "i love walking in the rain feels so fine" into Google and get "Love Unlimited Walking in the rain with the one I love" as lyrics and high-tailed it over here to YouTube and suddenly, I am back riding in the station wagon....
@NEXPAR I can relate to you because for the longest , i thought that New Years song , Auld Land Syne , i thought they saying old ass times.............lol
As with all the music in the70's I was young, however 30 yrs later I now understand and feel their meaning and purpose spiritually , mentally and physically. Sometimes I smile form the happiness I felt doing those times. Now I wish that I can dedicate these meanings to some sister who can not only appreciate them ...............but me.
@mrob75 when producers started sampling this and the less privileged could relate to hip hop topics instead of love and romance...i agree alot of todays rappers are crap but dont be narrow minded about 'hip hop'

@undermisensiOPC I thought about your comment. I would have to disagree about the less privileged being unable to relate to love and romance. These are two concepts that transend money. Regarding hip hop, I still kinda' feel that 50 years from now acts like the Love Unlimited will reign supreme vs. any contemporary hip hop act.
I remember watching her in 1973 on TV , I was 8 years old , the clip was black and white , she was laying down on a sofa singing , then at the end she sat and dialled on an old style phone with a revolving dial , and talked so sweetly , one of the best memories from childhood
my first girlfriend of the 70s (lets just call her Carlie) NEVER liked the rain..when she dumped me on that cold rainy morning in february 1972, I thought my heart would NEVER heal..but SOMETHING gave me the STReNGTH to PUSH her HEADFIRST into a MUD puddle and MOVE ON with my life....sniff..memories

Such a sweet memory, i was 13 yrs old and so in love with a girl named Aida Garza. Only trouble was that she didn't love me LOL. Sure wish I could go back to my home in East los Angeles back to those days. So many people and family I had back then are gone now.

Me too, I always knew this would become a real classic. Such a beautiful song and such pretty sentiment. Long ago, far away, and so very, very deep inside....
too fun to find this. used to sing it as a kid but saying "feels so wet" (it was raining and as a kid we got a kick out of umbrellas). all the stories...tnx 4.
I had no idea all of these years that the man's voice who answered the phone was Barry White. wow....The things we learn as we get older. Beautiful song, and beautiful Barry White. This man was a talent.
The piano and the bass that comes in at the telephone call from 3:10 until the end, is fire. They should us that instumental part in a movie, druing a crucial moment or scene.
You got a point, they should have used that version you are talkin about in Love Jones when they were out in the rain. Matter of fact there are alot of movies especially afam that should be using more classic soul music. They would definitely enhance the scenes and most importantly the movies. Movies now(most of them) just put songs anywhere without really understanding how a song can take that scene to another level.
....si ploau, si ploau...Superb!
