  • If I don't need the files on the old HD, i don't have to backup anything, right?

  • @AnhKhaLe Correct

  • So if I wanted to replace an existing HDD I would have to have a separate copy of all the files first on a USB or something?

  • @Soundofstereos It's not required; I simply suggest a backup first JUST IN CASE something goes wrong. Online backup is fine if you make sure to backup all that is important to you (see OnlineBackupSpot(dot)com).

  • i just got a computer and it turn out it has no hard drive and when i turn it on it says no operating system found so what i do plz help

  • @2468manfan Unfortunately you have to buy a hard drive and an operating system. You can often buy Windows at a reduced price (OEM version) if you buy with a piece of hardware such as a hard drive.

  • @FreeCompConsultant I sort of have the same issue; I have a an laptop, with a drive, and a new laptop without one. Can I simply put the old in the new, or are there other things I have to do to not screw it up?

  • @flyingpeacocktents Both must be the same interface (IDE vs SATA), if you just want the drive to work.

If you want Windows to work, the laptops must be close to identical.

  • after i put the new hard drive do i need to buy a new windows for it?

  • @francis1010e You can use the same copy of Windows previously used.

  • @FreeCompConsultant when i go on my laptop when i enter the user everything is black and u cant see anything what do i do i tried to wait i waited for like 2 hours plz help

  • @MrBakugan290 That's not much to go on. Head over to my support forum and I will try to help.

  • can the d630 take a 7200rpm drive? yes it is sata like you showed so i know it would fit.

  • I have my new drive installed, but when I hit the power button to turn it on and restore, nothing happens. What do I do?

  • @sk8rdman Please define 'nothing happens'. No power? No screen display? No indicator lights?

I can help you best at my support forum: FreeComputerConsultant(dot)com/forum

  • @FreeCompConsultant Nothing happens. No screen display, no lights, no anything.

  • Is it possible to FIX a disk drive? I have a toshiba satellite a105 s2131 series, and i dont have any money to buy a disk drive... Please help me!! my drive has been fu****d up and i need my laptop for school... thanks!! =)

  • @diaztchris57 Depends on what's wrong with it; if it's not spinning or making nasty noises, then no, you won't fix it.

If it's just data issues, then maybe. Come to my free support forum at FreeComputerConsultant (dot) com/forum

  • @diaztchris57 You can remove the hard drive and check the warranty online using the model number on the sticker

  • Thanks, will try and clean it and see if it will improve, but this happen to me with a sony, exact same thing contacted sony help line at a premium and was told the cd wasn't working and a replacment can be sent at a charge. Funny how these recovery cd always seems to not work when you need them to. I ended buying a osm cd of ebay in the end cos it worked out cheaper. If your soulution don't work might have to do the same for this hp too. Think these companys are ripping us off

  • Hi got the hard drive, but it keeps saying no bootable device-- insert boot disk and press any key. Went to BIOS setup selected cd/dvd-rom in boot order still saying same thing, the recovery cd is in the drive. Please can you advise, thanks Bruce

  • @brucie239 Always possible that the CD is bad or, maybe the CD Drive is dirty or dead. I often have to clean CD drives (with a cleaning CD) in order to get them to work properly.

  • Hi. I put an SD card in the SD card slot and now its stuck! It will not get out.

    Help!

  • hi need to change a hard drive on a hp persario a900 laptop the current hard drive is 160gb sata 3 5400rpm, Can I use a 7200rpm drive as a replacement? Got recovery disk so will install vista once I get drive.

    Thanks for help

    Regards Bruce

  • @brucie239 Yes, a 7200rpm drive will be better, but a SSD would be MUCH faster. Contact me at my support forum for help if you need it.

  • Hi once I change the hard disk how do I initialize and format the disk, running vista and have the recovery disk.

  • @brucie239 Did you try just installing Vista and letting Windows do the disk prep for you?

I have a separate video on how to initialize a hard disk.

  • The hard drive in my laptop seems to be working all the time. The symbol for the drive is blinking all the time, is there something wrong with my hard drive or laptop?

Do I need to change it?

    Appreciated for help!

    /Max

  • @monsieurmax10 Don't change it because the light is on. Does it make strange noises?

Chances are you have too much crapware or malware causing hard drive access continually.

  • Recently bought a used Toshiba laptop. A friend had to order new Windows Vista Home Premuim discs since I didnt get them and the computer was having problems. He fixed it and everything looked alright. Two days later, I am now getting a notice that there is a hard disk problem, and that I need to backup my files. I believe I have backed up the files successfully, but now how do I repair the hard disk?

  • Where could a get a 4 GB laptop hard drive?

  • @DownwardFamily Why would you want one that small?

  • @DownwardFamily hahahahahahaha XD

  • @DownwardFamily Because I have a 1998 laptop hard drive that had a 4GB hard drive

  • you're a cery nice man and explain things quite well. thanks!

  • hey i got a problem what i need to do after change the hard disk and it is empy, and i have no back up and no cd with clone setings ,what i need to do please tell me you seriusly will help me with it. please. or how to make it work .???please

  • How much does a hard drive cost?

  • Does that laptop have 1 slot for RAM or 2 slots for RAM sticks?

  • my laptops messed up so if i get a new harddrive and put it in will my laptop be good again (will it be totaly restored)

  • yo, my computer is totaly messed up too but if you do get a new hard drive, depending on how messed ur comp is,you should be able to just call your co mputer provider (like technical support) to help you set up the new hard drive. becuz with mine the hard drive was faulty so i got sent a new one and my computer cant detect it, so u may have the same problem.

  • yea, but you wont have any of your info or data. and just run an anti virus program you prbebly just have a virus from careless downloading.

  • what if your laptops HDD is falling out???

  • Hi, mine isn't as easy as yours, it's a HP Pavillion TX1000, and there's the grip thing and all....I could take it out but I don't know how to put it back in! Help!

    Btw. Good video (thumbs up).

  • I just replaced the hard drive on my laptop. I will say it is/was way easier than I expected. Great video!

  • Do you know or some one knows how to replace the hardrive on a hp pavilion xh136? the harddrive is not where most are, I think is under the keyboard and is giving me a hard time, great video !

  • Bracket is the drive caddy

  • I normally think of a caddy as a "tray" that the drive sits in, attaching with 4 screws. This is barely a piece of plastic lined with a little metal with knob on on side and a screw on the other. You could actually install the drive without it on this machine.
