3.48 in morning, just endured some shity songs in a night club, this is heaven, arty, mat zo, gareth emery ferry corstn, myon and shane54, jaytech, above and beyond obvisously, sunny lax, andy moor, lange, matt lange, some real tunes at last........
yay im going to troll about music because im bored and shit and debate the finer details of a song that everyone is here just to listen. yaaaaaaaaaay....
@mnmmoose14 Let's see... bpm around 130, 4/4 time signature? check. Intro that sets the key, synth sounds, and mood? check. Fade out into breakdown that drops the beat and introduces the chord progression and melody? check. Layers of synth pads and rhythms building up? check. An intense build up to a delayed drop? check. Beat drops back in with euphoric synths and the chord progression/melody? check. Repeated melody theme? check. Fade out, back to the concept of the intro? check. It's trance.
@Dwafiz Trance is more relaxing. Perfect examples are: "Out There and Back"(album), "Xpander", "Cloud 9", "In My Memory", etc... "Age of Love" is about as intense as it gets. Beyond that, a track's vibe is different and is now Prog. Trance. I think most of the confusion comes from Dutch DJ's and their big dance sound. They don't admit they're not pure Trance artists, but really Trancy artists. Tiesto, Armin, Corsten tracks are prog. Progressive moves your body, Trance moves your head.
@mnmmoose14 Ok, you're really referring to classic trance. Sort of like referring to classic cars; what we used to call "cars" a century ago looked drastically different from what we call "cars" now; yet both are truly "cars." What you speak of is trance; this is trance; the housey, techy stuff that trance will probably turn into in the future is also trance. It's all about evolution.
@Dwafiz What I have never understood is the need to classify into genres. Isn't all music abstract and all about putting you in a different state of mind? Sure, a lot of those "progressive tracks" build up and climax at the end with a bang. A lot of "trance tracks" have that beautiful melody which draws us to it. Should we be wasting our time to categorize when we should be closing our eyes and appreciating this absolute gem of a track?
@muraliavarma I personally enjoy categorization; it appeals to my sense of order. I agree that all music is about effecting one's state of mind, but there are numerous ways artists go about producing that effect (hence "genres"). Depending on their mood, people want to experience different formulas of music (genres), and it helps to give names to these different forms so that people can communicate their preferences to others.
@muraliavarma However, I promise you that the time I spent with these comments did not interfere with me enjoying this excellent track; I agree with you that music is very much about feeling, emotion, and states of mind. That is ultimately why I love music.
@Dwafiz Thank you for posting such a well structured reply. I especially like how you explained about creating a sense of order. I agree that it helps in communication and ease of access. But people have taken it to such a microscopic level that they feel the need to categorize every petty thing. When the number of comments about genre classifications outweigh the number discussing the merits/demerits of the track, that is when I feel people are thinking of classification more than appreciation.
I don't know what to say. This is like Heaven. This song is Heaven. That's how i would feel in Heaven... if there was one. The true Heaven is here... while you listening to THAT song! Ah! A true bliss.
