  • Ouais cette musique.... j'en pleure...;

  • does anyone else ever catch themselves humming at the end?

  • as much as i love this movie, and love the song in the movie, this version just falls completely flat compared to the version in the film with bagpipes and soldiers singing it..... this version isn't nearly as heartfelt sounding

  • I have the film in DVD. It's wonderful... I love when they sing this song, with the bag pipes... <3 Peace

  • one of the best films ever...

  • Joyeux Noel à tous!

    Merry Christmas everybody!

  • Another song fills my Mind here, "From a distance You look like my friend Even though we are at war From a distance I just cannot comprehend What all this fightings for

Bless you all my European kin, if only we all had had the courage to "down weapons" and let the rulers of our Countries gone and done all their own dirty work!

  • 4:20 is very beautiful =)

  • good song

  • Wow, saw this movie the first time at Christmas while snowed in for three days. Many will also like "It Could Happen Again" by Colin Raye with Johnny Cash, on youtube.

Do you know that the rulers of Russian and Germany were cousins and tried desperately to avoid the war? It was forced by internal politics. "Undoubtedly this is the most stupid, senseless and unnecessary war of modern times. It is a war not wanted by Germany."--German Crown Prince Wilhelm. See my website for more info

This song is beautiful, same the movie. No more war. Greetings from Peru.

  • gorgeos

  • i where in war, 2 years staight in iraq, lost my two best comerades there, il say.... ive met taliban people who where good humans aswell, war is wrong, i love this mowie, and thinks that if we all really did try, all at once, we could create peace.... it is what i like to belive..., rip fallen comerades, and may we all see trueth someday, peace all,

  • I'm german and we watched this movie in our french lessons..i really think it's a great movie and i just had to look for this song..such a beutiful movie and a sad ending.. i really tried hard not to cry...i failed, but i wasn't the only one^^

  • @angelshadow95 Long live to the friendly German/French !!! =)

  • The History of Verdun, Yper or any other place where WW1 took place, converts even the die-hard warmovie/wargame admirer.

  • I cried multiple times throughout this movie.. Especially at the end, despite the Officer destroying the Soldier's harmonica.. Did that stop those soldiers from singing? From remembering how they had found comradeship in men who were their so-called "Enemies"...? Never, they sang despite the scorn that Officer poured upon them, because no matter what that Officer did, he could never make those Soldiers inhuman.

  • Beautiful song, world peace would be possible if there weren't any greediness, or selfishness and evil in humans..

  • I'm sure Erich Maria Remarque would have loved this movie. =)

  • 17 fucking warmongers dropped by.

  • this music make's me cry and gratfull for all the who made a truce ar christmas. (:]

    (sad smiley face)

  • The reason why this is so sad, is that the European fronts were not only war, but fratricide.

  • i always watch this film around christmas the music is beautiful

  • Six years ago a young boy turned on his TV and watched a very strange movie called ,,Joyeux Noël". He cried and cried for several hours. Today I watched it again. I'm 17 and I''m not ashamed to admit that I cried and cried again like 6 years ago. This movie is amazing and I want to say to everyone who never watched it. Now is the time!

,,Mankind must put an end to war before war puts an end to mankind."

  • @TheBranchez mate, i fought 2 years in iraq, and seen much shit, and lost my two best freinds there, i love this mowie, course of the fackt that we are not so difrent, and we can all make a difrence, and i agree, we must put an end to war and sacrifice, we must all be better people, we must learn to stop the pain, and stop the killing,

    freedom and peace people,

  • @TheBranchez

    well said

  • @TheBranchez You're not the only one. My favorite humorist make me cried in this movie. It's amazing.

I don't want any other war. I love both Germans, Scottish, French, Russians, the whole humanity. Our countries, families have so much suffered and its still suffering today. Our LAND is suffering. Please put an end on war, every wars. ( sorry for the english )

  • Comment removed

  • @TheBranchez A little over ago a Jewish man was shown this movie by his best friend, a Catholic. Both men were 32 at the time, both men cried several times, and both men now have this movie among their favorites :) "I'm dreaming of home I feel so alone, I'm dreaming of home..."

  • Chills. I've got chills.

  • I cannot watch "Joyeux Noel" or hear this song without crying like a freakin' BABY. :')

This song, and "It Could Happen Again" by Colin Raye are dedicated to those soldiers who "franternized", and became gifts to each other, friends. :') To the soldiers on that cold night, and even to their descendants: Thank you.

  • When a war is fought for political reasons only and without the slightest shred of an idealogical or moral justification........

.....The soldiers and civilians WILL find out sooner or later!

  • it's so sad to be part of any war... i hope we make a better world!

  • R.I.P all the French,Irish,Scottish,English,British,German,Hollanders,Austrians,Canadians,Italian and all other people who died it was the leaders who should have fought each other not the soldiers!

  • Vive l'Europe fraternelle !

  • The prince at the end was clearly worried about the ordinary German soldiers seeing they had more in common with their British and French brothers than with their rulers.

  • @DuffmanIRL

I wouldn't say he was worried. But rather, personally defeated in an unspoken challenge. He had tried to crush their spirits by loading them on a train and shipping them off to a grim front. He wanted them to whimper. But instead, the soldiers sang the song they had learned from the Scottish.

The Prince, seeing that he could not take away their humanity, was out of weapons to use against them. In a frustrated "Bah, why should I care anyway?" manner, he walked away in defeat.

  • @Scitech101 a simple way to defeat an enemy, by keeping up the spirits and fight on, no matter what,

  • God bless the sons of Europe. Too long, too much have our fathers suffered, my brothers. My deepest respect and much love to my German, French, British, Dutch and Belgian brothers. Let us never again been send to slay one another by Generals, Presidents, Chancellors and politicians. If they want war, let them fight themselves! God bless you all

  • @kriddie88 What about Irish and scottish without us britain would have died.

  • What name is a music?

  • @danielmartinspedreir the song is called i'm dreaming of home

  • @Nanostarification Thanks very much!

    Fique com Deus!

    :D

  • Presidents decide the war. But they themselves go not die in the war to the pointless one. If they themselves are too cowardly. For it they abuse her people. No soldier should have to shoot at another. Nevertheless, they all are most even fathers. No child should have to grow up without father. No child, no father, no mother should have to die only because it presidents or religious leaders so want!

    Child protection group-Carolin Germany

    Kinderschutzgruppe-Carolin Deutschland

  • "Undoubtedly this is the most stupid, senseless and unnecessary war of modern times. It is a war not wanted by Germany...

    —German Crown Prince Wilhelm

You can read about the truce and letters concerning it by those soldiers who were there in Oh Holy Night: The Peace of 1914. It really should have ended right then.

  • @sdcoyote70

The German leaders never agreed on the war. And it was always the same thing on the French side.

World War one was stupid bullshit between crowns that ended up killing Europe little by little.

  • only the highest british, german and french generals could dislike this...seems like we have 15 of them !

  • This movie is truely beautiful, as is the song. It is incredible and inspirational. If the world could watch this they might learn a thing or two. We are all just one human race, and dispite our nationalities, colors, or religion, we aren't as different as we think. It's so sad to think that things were only like this for a day.

Joyeux Noel! Merry Christmas! Frohe Weinachten!...

  • It should be noted that during the war, Adolf Hitler, then a soldier fighting for Germany, spoke with disgust to this event: "Such a thing should not happen in wartime. Have you no German sense of honour left at all?"

    Disgusting.

May Hitler's memory continue to rot in the blackest pages of history.

  • @Scitech101 Wow, thanks for that comment. That says loads about the bastard, who will remain a hot coal for eternity.

  • Merry Christmas to all around the world.

    From an American.

May the lessons learned on the last days of 1914 live on.

  • "Undoubtedly this is the most stupid, senseless and unnecessary war of modern times. It is a war not wanted by Germany..."--Crown Prince Wilhelm

The great tagedies of this war are described in Oh Holy Night: The Peace of 1914, focusing on letters written home by these soldiers who made the truce.

  • does anyone have lyrics for this?

  • @specialkate00 ant to all the people who love this song:

    I hear the mountain birds

    The sound of rivers singing

    A song I’ve often heard

    It flows through me now

    So clear and so loud

    I stand where I am

And forever I’m dreaming of home

I feel so alone, I’m dreaming of home

  • @uglyjumali

    Its carried in the air

    The breeze of early morning

I see the land so fair

    My heart opens wide

    There sadness inside

    I stand where I am

And forever I'm dreaming of home

I feel so alone, I'm dreaming of home

  • @specialkate00 ...It’s carried in the air The breeze of early morning I see the land so fair My heart opens wide There’s sadness inside I stand where I am And forever I’m dreaming of home I feel so alone, I’m dreaming of home This is no foreign sky I see no foreign light But far away am I From some peaceful land I’m longing to stand A hand in my hand … forever I’m dreaming of home I feel so alone, I’m dreaming of home.
  • @uglyjumali thx! but i meant in French.., cuz at the moment i cannot get a word. i study French...;/

  • the most hideous of all is how a nation raise the children thinking that all the others are the enemies that have to be exterminated and the church supports it!

  • i watched this during my german class it was a great movie

  • Joyeux Noël my dear british, french and german brothers!

Let's treat eachother just like our brothers did in this movie

    Merry Christmas everyone!!

  • I used to think that Saving Private Ryan was the best war movie ever made. When I saw this one (about a year ago) I changed my opinion. this was the greast movie I had ever seen. Because It shows not only the horrors of war but also that we are all human, and it shows human compassion and that no matter what country you are from we are one. I have never cried so much during a movie.

  • If they could do it in 1914, can we do it in 2010?

  • @19jacinta88 there are no trenches now, no connection between the parties at war. Just cowards shooting innocent people from miles away.

  • @19jacinta88

Well, if the current wars were folks who celebrate christmas (for whatever reasons) against those who celebrate christmas (for whatever reasons), possibly...but only possibly. Right now, a majority of violent or potentially violent combat zones are between enemies who do and don't celebrate the holiday, or (in the current case of korea) don't celebrate Christmas in the traditional sense at all. Back then, these men weren't that different at all, except for where they came from.

  • @HerrCollier

However, that does not get rid of the need to treat the people over there with dignity and to respect their culture.

  • "Alle Menschen werden Brüder"

To think that we have come so far. I wonder what these soldiers would have thought of the European Union and the peace and friendship we enjoy today as European brethren.

  • For some time, starting in the 19th Century, people feared that the machine, the rifle, the factory, and so forth would destroy the human spirit. As the drums of war grew, it did indeed begin to look like the very science that had brought us so many gifts would then slaughter millions and take away our human souls.

However, this moment proved that no machine or mechanization could kill our inner humanity. Even in the darkest times of machine war, the embers of compassion could reignite.

  • war, why on earth did we invent that?

  • @MrSombody2

    because we're humans

  • Français ou Anglaise ??

    frances o ingles ?

  • You can't help but think about the foreshadowing of the men's future, particularly Audebert's and Horstmayer's. Horstmayer is a Jew and even if he survived the Eastern Front, he may not survive Hitler. Audebert, being transfered to Verdun, may not even survive the war.

  • beautiful film indeed!!

  • Such a beautiful film, it really highlights that you can find beauty and happiness even in the worst of times, and that regardless of what army these soldiers are from, they are really all good people just trying to survive and make it home. They all love and hate, they all breathe and think... these young men are just like each other, forced into a war by old men. Fighting to survive and return to their families.

  • Letters of the soldiers: "The truce of God had been called, and the rest of Christmas Day was filled with peace and goodwill.” "We had a short service over the graves, conducted by our minister and the German one...Psalm and had a short prayer. I don't think I will ever forget the Christmas Day I spent in the trenches." "one German said 'But you are of the same religion as us and today is the day of peace! It is really a great triumph for the church.'"
  • that movie was wack.

  • @gil435345345345

    but true

  • The "best" nature of humanity--sentiment one day, for Roman Holiday, then back to murdering each other senselessly for a few square centimeters of mucky ground the next. Dead husbands, sons, fathers, brothers all the same for a good sing and a hug. Seeing the light for a few hours, but denying its superior ways, and higher moral authority, and going back to chauvinism & patriotism and brutality as if the moment of sanity never existed. So what exactly was set aside? Postponed for a moment.

  • @israelipiper

You fail to realize that a majority of those who actually participated in the unofficial Christmas Truce of 1914 were expediently shipped out to other parts of the front for their respective countries, because their commanding officers were alarmed at such fratnernization keeping their soldiers from "fighting the good fight." Most (not ALL, but most) soldiers who took part in the Christmas Truce were moved to other front lines to kill men they DIDN'T franternize with. AKA you fail

  • @israelipiper Did you actually check it up, or did you just write?

  • Comment removed

  • I remember reading about the christmas truce in my history class. It was so beautiful and wonderful that I couldn't believe something like this ever took place.

  • Pfff les 14 qui aime pas....bas c d con ^^

  • very beautiful song....

The movie is great too !!! =)

  • I just saw this movie: one of the most inspiring films i ever saw. A must see for everyone: time to unite, time to recognize your brothers and sisters, regardles their race, sex, color or religion. Dont fight the conflict of the rich elite, dont destroy your habitat for money...

  • @mbahnen

    Hallo my friend,

    a really great comment....

I cannot say much more, but just one thing: Never, never, never again!!!

    Uwe

  • this movie aproves: wars are fought for old men by young boys

  • This is the kind of movie everyone needs to see. Cut this silly notion of superficial differences. We are all one on the soul level. But that is not what the elite wants. They want the population control and at the same time profit from our death through creating superficial crisis and wage wars. They have done it throughout known history. This disgusting pattern has to end.

  • Todays NWO crisis can serve as a great opportunity for all of us to break this vicious Cycle. Simply recognize how we are used and refuse to cooperate. Their fake money and weapons can not wage wars by themselves. They need someone to execute their dirty conspiracy theory plans.

  • I'm french and I've seen this movie which has touched me so much, it's so wonderful.. I've cried, yes I've cried, because of the music, the story. Thanks to this kind of movie, we can undertand that war is bullshits !!

    =')

    Joyeux Noël -- 10/10

  • @djeanakin What's really bullshit is that that cat was tried in Paris and shot for treason.... just saying.

  • @djeanakin i share your sentiment my freind. im scotish and it was this film that showed me no matter language, race or creed, we are all just human beings and we would do well to remember that.

    joyeux noel-- 11/10

  • @albertjester (My djeanakin count has bugged so I removed it, and created a new one (dje6429)) Thanks dear friend ! You're asolutely right, fucking wars making all of us devils, guilties are only countries governors, using us (citizens) as sheeps !!

PS : I love your country !! But still not visited =(

  • Since when does pitting tens of hundreds of innocents against each other considered to be the pinnacle of honor and love for thy kind ? Hell ! These men during Christmas did what hordes of diplomats couldn't be bothered to achieve : peace ! And when these poor souls proved peace was possible ... what do the rulers do ? Threaten them to go back to war ! Fighting for peace and liberty ... what a bunch of bull !

  • Beautiful action on all sides? But then.. next morn...back to mud slingin? Positions givin away? Hell at that point ppl should have wrapped it up said fuck u kaiser, fuck you king, im goin home to my fam,,but we're humans and in 20 years want war again, a rowdy bunch of shits we are...A good ass kickin to all of us would set it straight.

  • from 2:47 to 3:20

    What a voice !

  • U have no idea the memories associated with this song for me. Fuckin butiful

  • WWI could have ended that very day, and none more would need die.

  • @Pealanor nah they need to shoot their respective generals first for coming up with near-suicidal tactics THEN none more would need to die.

  • @Pealanor And, had WW1 ended at that time, it's entirely possible that WWII never would have happened either. Imagine what the world would have been...

  • @CaptainAardvaark So true and so sad. The hateful attitudes and the severe penalties imposed on the starving German people at the end of WWI laid a foundation upon which WWII could be built. See the book about it on amazon, Oh Holy Night: The Peace of 1914.

  • The cat was the wisest of them all.

No, really. The cat did not understand such silly things as national divides and political squabbles. What it could comprehend was the common humanity that all soldiers had.

And is a german cat any different from a french cat? An Iranian Cat from an American Cat? The answer really is no. So, why should an Iranian Human be any different from an American Human?

So, in that sense, the cat really is the wisest character in the film.

  • I am not a German, French or Scottish, But I am a Human who loves peace and Humanity. It is by seeing such Great example of what Humanity really is and how much potential a human soul has to bring peace at times of war, I cry.

    VIVI LA VIDA!!!

    GEO AUR JENAY DO!!!

  • quel musique trop beau!!!!!

MAGNIFIQUE ! On retrouve l'être humain. PEACE AND L0VE <3

  • There is a link on my website [link on my page here] "Christmas Truce" which will take you to a UK site where they have lots of letters that describe the truces, written by the soldiers.

  • To end my first message, French had 200.000 killed soldiers in the first battles and their countries Belgium and France invaded by germans. For sure no one french or belgian soldier could drink and play football with the enemy even for Christmas ! Did the British made Christmas truce on the Somme line in december 1916 ? Certainly not !!

  • @Biloutemag There were reports of different types of truces in many different places on the Western front. There were attempts the next years as well, but the reason they didn't happen is because higher officers on both sides obviously couldn't allow it so they tended to shell the crap out of each other (among many other measures taken to avoid another truce, including different rotation systems to avoid fraternising with the enemy) every Christmas after 1914.

  • To tell the truth, Christmas truce in 1914 concerned only British and German troops around the town of Ypres (Belg). In december 1914, British were "only" 70.000 to fight in France (professional soldiers). They came massively in France but later (1915-1916). 95% of the war front concerned only German and French troops (1.200.000 for the French)... and no truce there !

  • What this should show is not 'Aww stupid war bad mistake' but how insane the leaders of the world are, all propaganda about foreign countries is phony, with what little care for the human life or spirit the world is controlled by those who hide from our eyes.

This isn't testimony to the potential amongst just a few men, but humans and mankind overall, when the veil is lifted, and what you're really fighting against is shown (Think Iraq, Afghanistan).

  • This song is hauntinggy beautiful. Thank you so much for posting it!

  • This movie is so hard for me to watch. I'm an American with British (Scottish, Irish, Welsh, English), French, and German heritage. Watching my cousins go through this...it's horrifying.

  • Let us face it. We are a warlike species. We glorify it, and it is even in our genetic code.

Yet events like this prove that thanks to the fact that are civilized, we can overcome the warmonger within us.

  • Thanks to all the countries to have allowed has our beautiful country FRANCE to exist still

  • this was the greatest war movie i ever saw. i'm not much into war films but this film is one of the best i ever seen.

  • Comment removed

  • Someday..... perhaps someday.....

We will learn not to fight each other and simply get along. As brothers. As a family. As a species.

  • Comment removed

  • @Scitech101 Nicely said

    Maybe one day...

  • Please, why do you bring argument to this area! To a time when the best of humanity was shown?

This was not about religion. nor was it against religion. It was about simple brotherhood and love. Is that such a hard thing to comprehend? That your neighbor can be your neighbor and not your enemy? Regardless of who that neighbor worships?

CH*blubbering that I had done before the film which I watched at least 20 times below! X))

  • This is a scottish folk song???

    T_T

  • Being german and father of three french kids. Their grandfathers were enimies in the 2. war, their great-grandfathers in the 1. war. Who can understand that f...... world. It is so much better to make love instead of war.....

  • This movie affects me in a way that few have! This film, as only film seems able to do, helps me understand the courage required of each participant in the truce, each step of the way toward each other and toward nonviolence, in defiance of orders and expectations and in the face of real danger and possible betrayal. "Joyeux Noel" celebrates humanity, and shows that we can overcome our most primal fears and trust our best instincts. Monsieur Rombi and confreres, I salute you!

  • The end of the video makes me cry.

    They rest in peace... :(

  • I LOVE THIS MOVIE. I CRY A LOT WHILE I WATCHING THE TENOR SINGING IN NO MAN´S LAND PART. BEAUTIFUL

  • The very ending is very poignant in that it juxtaposes the harsh military Prussian style martinent cold heart with the men's simple basic human instinct for feelings as expressed in their singing the fraternization tune.

  • @hospitalship1 In the end, the latter won.

  • très belle vidéo, et superbe musique !

  • I love this story and movie!

  • A stupid, senseless and bloddy war how killed a improbably number of french men, destroyed the german empire and brought Germany to hate and destruction... never forget WW one.

  • I like to imagine that Horstmayer and Audebert had that drink in Paris after the war....

  • You are not human if your emotions didn't stir while watching this movie or the whole movie.

  • THANK YOU

  • The last scene almost made me cry.

I mean, its just so beautiful how the German soldiers never forgot what they learned from their French and Scottish friends, and even the lieutenant hummed along.

And its sad how most of them probably perished in the Eastern Front..

  • Scitech101 @utubu3

please dont speak of the pope, he wont admit to the suffering the catholic hurch has caused Ireland, a nation who followed a useless cause, The pope my .... religion has caused so much conflict .

  • Stop bickering.

The soldiers here exemplified the best nature of humanity.

Perhaps someday, humanity will learn what these soldiers did.

  • @Scitech101 I can't agree with you more

The message in this stunning occassion has nothing to do with religion; it has everything to do with the human spirit. Yes, religious celebration was the source behind the semantics, but above all it is a testament to humanity's ability to set aside pointless, political and even national ideology, and to simply accept the fact that, no matter what nation or faith you come from, the man standing across the field from you is still your brother.

  • remember that without the romanian army, the russians could not defend the eastern front!!!

  • France and Great Britain were forced to war by their alliances (Triple entente).

Do you remember that the 1914 conflict in western Europe opened with the German invasion of Belgium (neutral), Luxembourg and France ?

  • France was not the cause of this WW1 and lose 1.400.000 soldiers, 10% of all the male french active people (much more than all americans soldiers died in all US wars !) but a good part of american people did'nt hesitate to name the french "cheese eating surrender monkeys" because France refuse to follow them in their stupid and arrogant Irak war.

Shame on you for that !

  • @Biloutemag
