I took my cat to a groomer today. And living in Queensland's it does get hot in the summer. I am so happy she normally does dogs. But did an excellent lion cut. And was not stressed by it all my girl licked the groomer, as she does with me when I brush her. Shampooed and nails trimmed she smells gorgeous..
after watching ur video i took my cats to a groomer and got a buzz! they look so cute and they are very happy and more social like u said... they become more firm to hug and cuddle with them :) thanks for the video
Hahah my kitty just got his second hair cut. He's a short(ish) haired cat but it is extremely hot and he gets really dry skin in the heat (he has FIV). Anywhoo, he LOVES to be done. I don't have to hold him at all. He stands for me to do his back and sides and lays down and rolls over for me to do his belly :) next time he gets a "haircut" I have to video tape an upload it :)
Out of all the other videos here, this looks like the best way and he has control of that cat at all times. that is the best way to hold them because they will not struggle. Even the professionals make it look harder and they do not hold the cat right and they trimmed against the growth of the hair, more irritating for the cat that way.
I loved this video! I am searching around trying to learn how to groom my own older cat who has so many mats in his coat, it's not managable anymore. I thought this was great. Thank you! Much better IMO than the old lady shaving the cat LOL! I hope my cat is as well-behaved as yours. His name is Lucifer!
I got my cat used to the comb by brushing her everyday really easy, and she relates to the comb as to being petted. If you get rough one time with them they remember it and resist at every grooming. I never shave the whole cat, just the rear end under the tail and the stomach and i use a 1 inch atch. but it is necessary to comb the undercoat out so they dont get fur balls.
update,,, i just did my cat, and SUCCESS,, with regular good human cordless clippers, worked absolutely fine,,, thanks so much for sharing this video, u helped me save $140!!!!!!!!!!!!! BEAUTIFUL :)
i love how you clipped your cat,, i think i may attempt in now,, the vet was gonna charge $140 wow!!!!!!!
i want to clip him cos he has so many furballs coughin and vomiting everywhere!, and is shedding alot of fur, i think this videos great, and you did a good job!,, the nasty comments are just stupid :)
This kitty isn't being hurt. She's just ticked off because she's being held in one place. Cats are finicky that way. The clippers won't hurt her skin, they are just removing the hair as you do on a person. I have very thick hair and I get it cut shorter in the summer so I can stay cool - I understand how this kitty would feel the same way about having less hair to deal with. :-)
Hey jackass, you NEVER use human clippers on a cat. You use pet grade clippers with a #10 blade. NOTHING ELSE! Maybe you will get the picture when you rip open your cats thin skin and see a clear membrane covering the muscles and bones of your cat.
You could hurt your cat with any clipping tool. It just depends on how skillful you are- I've been using human clippers on my four cats for 3 years, not a problem at all.
Why on earth would you shave your cat? For one the fur protects the skin & now that you shave your cat the poor thing could get sunburned. Two if you groom the cat as in BRUSHING her she wont be so hot., and three when all that fur starts to go back it will itch like crazy.
My cat has the same amount of fur & I keep it brushed so the coat isn't so thick for him and I sometime just fill the tub with look warm cool water and put him in there for a few to cool him down. I don't shave my poor cat..
no guards. I tried that at first but the hair would always get stuck. It's no problem without them though because it would take quite a few passes to get down to hairless. I think it's way easier without the guard
Thanks you for the advice. My baby lexie has so many mats on her tummy and rear that no amount of brushing can deal with it. She really needs the shaving for hygiene sake but she holds the title of most difficult kitty at our vet and she is only slightly better with me
To anyone with issues of grooming cats and dogs and considers it abuse, get a grip it's abuse and neglect not to care for them allow their fur to get matted.
She must be a maincoon cause she looks just like my cat Sidney. My problem is that she gets really bad knots underneath that start to hurt if you touch them. I guess the key is to hold the neck properly. Will give it a try!
I brought my long haired cat to Petsmart for a cut. After the cut the groomer told me never to bring her back because she was too aggressive during the cut.
They should take your cat away for abusing her like that. If you cannot stand the hairs they leave then dont get a freaking cat. I'm going to call animal protection on you and file a complaint.
@misterbearbe How is he abusing the cat? Picking a cat up by the scruff of its neck is not abuse. A mother cat picks up a kitten the same way, and they naturally stiffen up because it tenses the muscles in their back so that they won't get hurt as the mother carries them around. If you're referring to the shaving as abuse, just know that cats can get mats in their fur if they're not constantly brushed, and sometimes its better off that they get shaved, so that healthy, new hair can grow in.
@HelloGreeneryMusic cats can take care of themselfs perfectly fine there is no need to treat them as humans. They are animals that survive in the wild. But whatever everyone their opinion..

you will have to watch out, because you could heart him or make big scraches
on his skin and the cat can get infections.

wow....if I did that to my cats, their feet would be trying to disembowel me.
They'd probably fight so badly, they'd have a heart attack.
What kind of cipper are you using?? Do you use guard combs to keep it at 3/4 " or so...better than hairless
