Probably not the most polished in production or acting, but the movie did have something to say. The message may not be something everyone would agree with. The message being that it is possible to share something romantic beautiful with someone else while you are in a relationship. Not something necessarily agree with, but the film maker did a good job presenting his point of view.

Even though the love story between Everett and Chase is portrayed beautifully, I still find that unrealistic. He only stayed in the town for a few FREAKING weeks. Therefore, I just think of Chase like Everett's small affair with the purpose of spicing up his "marriage" and family.

Keep stoning if you hate my comment. It's just how I felt because I believe that a stable relationship can only exist by the accumulation of time that two persons spent with each other. It's just NOT enough.

There were also a lot of unnecessary nature shots that weighed the film down, but I have confidence in Lewis. With a different soundtrack and some editing, both plotting and dialogue, this film could have been excellent. As it is, it is good. Both male leads shine in their roles, though Matt Montgomery is exceptional. The actress that delivers news to Everett at the end of the fim was exceptionally good as well.

Watched this movie again just now. The dialogue between Everett & his husband seemed unrealistic. The actor playing the husband cannot act. The actress playing Everett's mother stuggled too. The soundtrack is a major problem, sounding too out-of-place. The truly magical, transcendant moment in the film came after Everett & Chase first made out & how the scene transitioned to them walking in the river. Even the music in that scene worked! That scene was Lewis at his best.

Wow it really hurts me that the promised was not kept. 5 years and all he gets is the box filled with their memories. what i dont get is why the heck did chase call everett from time to time. i should have just paused the movie and ended it when he leaves the freakin child. sigh my heart is filled with tears and sadness. fuck it takes such a long time to get over heart breaking movies like these.

This is one amazing movie. I really loved it, except the ending. Why is it that all really good gay movies have to end sad? A gay life doesn't lead automatically to misery and sadness. I always have the feeling that movies like this one or eg Brokeback Mountain have this message. You can be a happy gay but you will never have a happy relationship. This makes me sad.

Can you please explain the ending? how did chase pass away? and in the middle of the film - chase mentioned that he was "kicked out" did he get rejected by his family? also i don't understand how the passive characteristic of the son help in this film. @shung24 I try my best :) Chaze died due to lung cancer. His cousin said it: "He never even smoked".

The son was autistic and since these children need special care. He was the reason why Everett struggeled for such a long time and didn't want to give in to Chaze. Everett thought a bad relationship was betterfor his son than none.

About the "kicked out" part, I understood it the same way as you did: Chaze got rejected.

Keep in mind, these are only my understanding of the movie ;)

Think more along the lines of a man and woman in a loveless marriage....staying together for the sake of their children. This story is nice from only one perspective. It shows how our aims to equality when it comes to marriage and children, can lead us not only in the heaven of the heterosexual people but also in their hell. Extramarital relationships, cheating, lies, divorce, childrens welfare, common wealth dispute, etc. The entire package, with all its boring and dirty aspects.

When my parents were together, they were miserable and I felt it, which lead to my unhappiness. Parents think their kids don't know what's going on but we do. If only David Lewis would have cast the acting equivalent of Matt Montgomery as the lead. Brendan lacks the acting grit to make some of the heavy, emotional scenes work, near the end of the film. And I thought the soundtrack really needed some work, though the main tune is great. There are scenes in this movie that are truly magical, which makes you believe that David Lewis is someone to be reckoned with. Expect great things from him in the future.

And just because a movie ends right where he makes this decision, it does not mean that he succeeds in actually holding that relationship together. Children are not permanently children, in a few years they grow up. And nothing can guarantee that his partner wont leave even before that.
