This is what happens to a car at 100mph, not 100kph. Tests were carried out at 60mph and then at 100mph, this is the result at 100mph. This car was designed and built in Australia, but i would guarantee that any car in a 100mph crash test would be just as bad if not worse off.

Ok - here's the facts. This is an early model Holden Commodore and this test was conducted at the NSW RTA Crashlab facility in Rosebery (facility is no longer there). This test was conducted in the early 90's and the Commodore was tested at 100 Kph into wall to test the capabilities of the newly commission crash test site. I was part of the engineering team that set up this test and I was responsible for the footage. We used Stalex WS 3 high speed camera's running at 1000 frames per second.

This Video has been around for a while now and as has been pointed out many times the car has no drive train and has sand in the boot to make for an explosive impact.

For those of you interested in fact, it is an Australian 1978 VB Holden Commodore. Australia has some of the toughest automotive design rules in the world. I have seen the real crash tests this car was subjected to and it performed nothing like what you see here. This has nothing to do with poor construction or design!

@alexgubbay152 Damn right I smashed my VB 2 years ago wrote it off, but the car was still running afterwards. VB and VC commodores had a bad problem with towing heavy loads for long periods of time. They would bend right before the back wheels, it was something to do with the body, they fixed it on the the VH.

I would have said "most useless and irrelevant" since no-one drives around with the engine, gearbox, prop and diff removed and a boot full of sand. I think Aussies just do massive crash tests for fun - next time, put a bom in it :)

Just saying, this crash test was conducted at like 80 mph or so. Not the typical 40 mph. Thats why it's so bad. You can tell by the way the back end lifts up. It wouldn't do that at 40 mph.
