Wow, I've actually been trying to do this on my own for the last week or so. I've been trying to use a typical three finger gallop (ring-middle-pointer). And have been having slow progress. This way looks like it might be easier in the long run but I'd hate to have to unlearned what I've learned so far. Would you recommend I start training the plucking order here or stick with the way I'm doing because it can be accomplished eventually my way too.
@jimenavs please learn how to spell and fingering is one of the best ways to play bass there are many different tones you get from either picking, fingering, and slapping/popping. a true bass player plays with all for all different kinds of music
i got a question i just started playin the bass this summer ive been playing the piano most of my life im 19 and its like i know people start playing at a young age but i just wanted to know whats the best way to learn how to play bass watching videos on youtube or taking lessons i mean yeah watching video lessons on how to play the bass guitar is like totally free but is there like a good way for me to like start off playin
@2Nbafan for one don't listen to this guy please. go get a teacher they may cost money but they are very helpful, once you've got to grips with the basics you can try teach your self for a bit, grab some cds with some good bass players and try working stuff out by ear, that helped me allot when i started try going to different teachers that way you get different perspectives. ahhhh and !! don't favour one musician over another however good they may be they all have some thing to teach you
Nice vid. You guys explain really great, it doesn't get boring listening to you. As soon as i have my bass, you'll know which vids i'm checking out^^ Cheers.
Another clear example of pedal note (and very similar to this progression) is The Clairvoyant, by Iron Maiden... very easy to play on bass (although a bit tricky in some parts), and really fun xD
@cliptheracer just maiden in general, steve harris loves using the pedal note. the rime of the ancient mariner, number of the beast etc but he truely is great
playing that many notes on just an open string sounds terrible and much harder to control soundwise than the fretted note
ps bloop reel at end is funny. I play bass and guitar and have been growing exponentially through all your videos. I'm digging the bass lessons. my bass teacher IRL suckssss compared to this. thnx again!!
I know nothing about bass guitars. All I was told was that they are played around the root of the cord the band is playing. True or not? I don't know. I don't even know what that means! LOL! I M such a noob!
a great example of pedal notes would be green day's longview. it doesn't have the same right hand plucking technique, but it's got the same left hand concept.
you guys should start showing examples of the licks you teach us...like show this over a country progression or a rock progression...something like that

play it backwards and you have the bass line to "number of the beast" an octave lower....

But....when are you supposed to pluck the A string? D: I see you doing it but I don't know when to.
