  • How long have you been an artist?

  • I sincerely hate thinking of poses for characters. That's what usually leads to my unholy art blocks. It's sucks when I can't even get past step one.

  • """"Maybe his good eye is a magical eye"""... LOL

  • Hey man what brush do you use, i think most of the time what i paint doesnt come out right because of the brush im using, yours special or a default brush?

  • @Eggtastic Most of the time I just use the default round brush with opacity set to pen pressure under the brush controls.

  • @daarken default round brush meaning? the first brush in the palette? And cheers for such a quick reply! lol! i found your website anyways and DL'd your 'My Brushes' link but if the one your describing now is used more thats what ill use :D

  • @Eggtastic Yeah, it should be the first brush in the set that you downloaded.

  • @daarken So its the size '19' of your brush pack and not the size 100 that is more hard?

  • @Eggtastic I use both, but most of the time I use the size 19 brush.

  • @Eggtastic where could i found the brushes you ve downloadet??

  • Great job man, thank you for sharing this with us!

  • Man I love your style. Can you slow down a video so we can see the painting/color-selection process you go through. I need to see how you go about getting the smoth transitions in your colors with 100% opacity and flow to your brush. Much appreciated.

  • what size is your work usualy?

  • @krukindra Usually around 4000-5000 pixels on the longest side at 300dpi.

  • @daarken

Great! I love your style :))

I have a question,...what is your setting for the pen "Tilt Sensivity" and "Tip feel"???

thanks in advance for all!!! :)

  • @crovamode Thanks! Normal for the tilt sensitivity and right in the middle for tip feel.

  • Maybe Its a magical eye, that glows~ lol

  • what tablet are you using ? intuos ?

  • @sweetabix3 Yes, Intuos 3.

  • @daarken ive not long bought an intuos 4 , and im a noob to using a tablet and doing concept art, could you give me advice on any brush settings or pressure settings , or any advice on how to set up my brushes or advice on what books or tutorials to watch to help me better understand , ive watched your tutorials and they help alot, i find ti hard doing the image from a silhouette ,im so confused LOL ,if you have time could you give me some advice please driftjunky8224@hotmail.com thanks

  • hey daarken, ive been watching your videos, great stuff man, i actually first learned of your work in some spectrum annual. any how, i have a question, do my eyes decieve me or do you use your brushes at 100% opacity at all times? that scares me hah

  • @phobophile6 Thanks! Yup, I keep my opacity at 100%. I do have opacity jitter set to pen pressure under the brush controls though.

  • @daarken i know its probably really simple but i never learned how to set opacity jitter to pen pressure. im looking in the brush menu and i dont see it, im using cs4. could you point me in the right direction? i want to try it out and see if i like it better than manually pressing the number pad to change opacity

  • @phobophile6 I am not using CS4, but if you go to window-brushes and then click on other dynamics you should see opacity jitter. Set that to pen pressure but keep it at 0%.

  • Its the New Sarkhan Vol!

  • Is it the new Sarkhan Vol?

  • @PichoSpin Nope

  • "maybe his eye, is a magical eye, that GLOOWS" haha

this is a very informative post. i learned a new way to start a draw haha nice

What did you use to fit the size of the image?

    Tks (:

  • @AngellGaby Are you talking about when I cropped the image? For that I just used the crop tool. It is located on the tool bar, or you can hit the letter "c"

  • @daarken Ooooh, thank you very muchh !!

  • u use shape dynamics btw for ur brushes?

  • Did you use reference for this?

  • @niyadito I looked in the mirror at my arm for part of it, but that is about it.

  • Hell of a thread ^^, enjoyed it tons

  • Hi daarken. Can you tell me what brush you use for outline and the body?

  • @planesrift I only use two brushes in this tutorial for painting the figure. The first brush is just a round brush with opacity set to pen pressure, and the other is just a default Photoshop rectangular chalk brush.

  • I'm not really an artist but this was a really interesting video. Thanks for making this. Its cool to see how something like this is done.

  • Awesome, I do love how serious this is D:. Being Nibru and all. Totally lookin forward to the next pieces youre doin... Got anything else you're workin on for videos?

  • thanks dave! yup, i am actually working on 3 new videos, plus i am still trying to release some real-time videos of nibru.

  • @daarken exelent as always...whats the brush u use to paint the white for highlight and gray in the begining?

  • @enamenpo I am pretty sure it is just a round brush. My round brush has the hardness set to 100% and opacity set to pen pressure.

  • awesome work flow, thanks for sharing, what program do you use to read your work?

  • Hmm, I am not sure what you mean by "read your work," but if you mean how did I record my work, I used Snapz Pro X.

  • hey daarken awersome video but im curius where dit you learn your skills dit you go to art school or somthing like that ?

  • Yup, I went to the Academy of Art University in San Francisco for traditional illustration.

  • yeah, that's what I meant , I never could spell. nice work thx for posting it up.

  • is there a similar software you can use on a PC?

  • Yeah, when I work on my PC I use Camtasia.

  • ..."that gloows"...

    ^_ ^

Fun. I realize how very, very often you flip your images!

I will definitly start doing that!

Flipping it horizontally after having painted it "one way" for a few hours really drives me crazy, there are so much to fix then.

More tutorials! Pretty please with cherry on top!

  • Nice work daarken! One of my favorite artists!

  • Thank you very much for this video Daarken. I often got some doubts on my painting technic as a beginner, and your videos always helps me a lot! Thanks again mate, for sharing your talent and your technic. And, good luck for your future work!

  • cool!

  • thanks! ill put together some videos at real-time speed of this painting soon.

  • thanks you!

  • That's awesome

  • cool. thanks for making this

  • how can you re size it?

Every time i re size a part of my drawing it becomes blurry.

  • Try holding down Shift while dragging it. That will keep the aspect ratio intact.

  • Oh okay Thanks! i'll try that!

  • Please keep these coming! I'm learning quite a lot from each of these.

  • great vid! I'm looking foreward to the realtime version

  • Nice video daarken. Love your drawings.

  • no doughnut! :P great video regardless. Thanks for taking the time.

  • Well done tute/tour. I like the little Daarken in the corner... Cheers, dooood.

  • Haha. Definitely saw this thread on CA a few days ago. Nice work, yet again daarken

  • Love the look of the eye.

I'm looking foreward to that other video!

  • I wouldn't call getting reference (looking at your arm in the mirror) cheating, it's just being smart.

  • You have scary eyes. It's like you're being possessed by the Nibru!

    Thanks for this, dude!

  • thanks man for another awesome tutorial!

  • lol im shocked that this thread took off xD

    Great concept by the way!
