That honestly doesn't look like a 10 galon tank. Looks like 5 galon at the most. my 2.5 galon betta tank doesn't really look much smaller than your tank.
Bettas should be fine with gouramis, especially thick-lipped gouramis, which are the most communal friendly gouramis you can get (and the prettiest imo)
I have a very well behaved male betta in my community tank. He gets on fine with my 4 female bettas, and my 2 thick-lipped gouramis
A plecostomus maybe? They'll keep your tank clean and can;t nip anything as they eat algae and have their mouth on the bottom though sometimes they will try and suck the algae off one of the fish.
Who said it was compatible with the pear gourami? In general bettas should never be kept with any type of Gouramis, and since pear Gouramis are one of the most colorful of the Gouramis, they are definitely not compatible with a male betta. However, you seem to
ShakespearesChin sounds surprisingly sexy lol. nice c/ tank also ,. my community tank hold 1 female fighter 1 dwarf gourami 1 male sword tail 2 females 3 neon tetra's 1 black phantom 1 cherry barb 2 balloon mollies 1 bristlenose pleco 2 housed/contained male fighters no problems at all it is really just a nursery ,all fish get moved when they grow to juvinile
dwarf gourami can be kept with betta cautiously depends on their personality. you're probably more likely to be successful if you keep more then one dwarf or if they are females. its kind of a hit or miss. i have two betta one is the sweetest thing the other wants nothing to do with ANY other fish, he doesn't care what species it is.... but he gets along quite well with my adf :)
I just got 2 powder blue gouramis the other day, having read in the store that my fighting fish could be placed with the gouramis as they are peaceful, yet I am also finding the fighter tends to nip very occasionally.
Pretty tank!! I've got 8 female Betta's in with one pearl gourami and one platinum gourami and 12 white cloud mountain minnows after some research myself I have found that they are not compatible with each other and yet I've had no problems!! they've been in the tank together for 2 months now!!! (: Anyway awesome vid!!
Tank looks good i have a new 10 gallon tank i just set up a few days ago and put my betta in for now, i found this great website that shows you what all fish go with what ever fish you select. So im going to buy some sharks and some pearl gourami's for the betta community tank. It says to have 2 pearl gouramis then they play with each other
the reason the siamese fish chases the pearl gourami is because the siamese fighting fish are teritorial and the gourami is just playing with the platies
haha you arent mad i talk to my betta all the time I always say hello to him when he comes to the front of the tank to greet me and i apologize when i startle him :D
You are so lucky your betta gets on with the platies well--mine is in a 10 gallon and when i put the platies in he started attacking them, not just flaring.
i relocated him and ill try putting him back in so hopefully he wont recognize the tank as 'his territorry' so he wont be so aggressive
@happieeyore Thanks.. makes me feel a little less silly... maybe I do talk to them... a little :P
Shame your betta isn't so kind to the platies, your plan to relocate him for a while sounds like a good one though. Good luck and let me know how it goes! :)
Yes alot of websites say never put antaboid fish together, but i've done it sucsessfully with Honey Gourami. Which are smaller and less aggressive. Usually if you keep more than one gourami they keep any aggression to their own species. But as you quite rightly said it depends entirely on the SFF. If i were you i'd try to rehome the pearl gourami or aqquire another tank :)
@catboyy Hi Catboyy, thanks for the tip. You're right about the pearl, I will look to rehome him soon as he's clearly getting bothered by the Betta!. Surprised that honey gouramis work well.. and pleased as I personally think they are much nicer than pearls! :)
