mine's 39/16 with a 32-622 wheel at the back, that's 65,8 gear inches and does 37,8 kph, which is 23.6 mph. 40 miles would be 190 rpm. 150 rpm is what I think I have managed, reaching almost 50 kph (31 mph). I dont think you even have to push to 80+ to each 35 mph (56 kmp). thats all on a downhill of course.

hah, your funny. I push 160 rpm doing 35... id probably be up to about 180 or so pushing 40mph... thats with 81 gear inches. with 15 less gear inches, id have to be spinning over 200 to do 40 down that hill. Even a pro velodrome rider cant push that kind of cadence.

@Transane i run a 48X17 gear ratio (78ish gear inches) and i have hit 40+ mph going downhill. i was riding next to a guy who had a computer, he said our fastest was 42. i wasnt pushing it, believe me, the pedals were taking my feet. but it is possible. either that or his computer was wrong...
