An excellent song! I think that it still has the presence that no sensor can ever really erase or cover up. It's just great songwriting. A shame that it wasn't a bigger hit, but then it did get released at least. I think that it is a lost gem, but one we can always find again.
@chrisjackson1 : Wow... the only version I ever heard was this one... I had a radio sampler from this album (I used to work at a radio station) and it says "get lost" on there, too... I always thought it would sound better if she said "fuck off" and, lo and behold...
Heard this song on CD101 in Columbus, freshman year of college 1990. I can remember listening to the stereo with my college dorm mate when it came on. After the song played the dj announced the band name and stated they were giving away tickets for that night's show at Chelsie's ( local bar). We called, got the tickets and saw them that night. Great show.
Another band we caught in the same exact way was, School of Fish. The Song Three Strange Days came on the radio. Saw them that night.
Had no idea how much of a sex pot the girl was! I heard the song on WHFS 99.1 back in 1990 and it was a hit! Vocals.Harmonizing.The way the music was put together.I loved it all! Have'nt heard the song for the past 18 years. However the video from 2006 was very painful to watch because the guitarist and the drummer did a bunch of improv and you could'nt hear the bass at all. The vocals, harmonizing and bass were the foundation of the music and the guitarist and drummer were the seal on the deal.
Love this song!!! I remember playing it during my college radio days at WFSE in Edinboro, PA. Laura B. is amazing, and this song is one that will always have a place in my heart. - J.
i used to listen to this song on 92.7 WDRE...had the album too..have to try to find it since my itunes got screwed up...i really liked this band. reminds me of college
I've had this CD since 1991 and it just got stolen (along with about 100 others) last year....Idiots in my neighborhood have no idea what they even stole? Thanks for posting this. They used to play this on WBRU 95.5 in Rhode Island in 1991. I think it was ranked as a top 10 song of the year in their countdown that year? Anyway, I consider this song top notch.
:) This song describes your average late teen early 20somethings relationship. Brings me back to high school when I listened to this song. My high school boyfriend and I said this was our song and we were proud of it. Oooh boy.
I always loved this song. I'm the only person I know w/the CD = )
Question: There was a rumor that this was written about the same dude Concrete Blonde's "Joey" is about and although she was a little coy, I once hear Laura B. in an interview kinda/sorta confrim that's true.
I LOVE Johnette but Laura's a lot better looking. Could the same guy have possibly gone out w/both of them all?
OMG....LOVE Uncle Floyd...lots of different bands were on that show...very underated...most people just associate UF with OOGIE and looney skip rooney..i remember the ramones..
I picked this CD up at a used CD store in Monterey, CA when I was stationed at DLI in the Presidio. That was way back in '92 and it's still a fav album. Good to see Laura is still working. Love the attitude music.
Yes indeed this was a great song!! Talk aboout Censorship,I do recall a guy sticking a gun inside his mouth and pulling the trigger in the original video.
I always viewed this song as the official end of new wave and beginning of 90's alternative. I saw them at a club in Port Chester, New York at this time and hung out a bit with JD - great guy. I remember Laura singing with a Kabuki mask! I'd be curious for more details about her music and life.
This song used to get a lot of play on WHFS in DC/Baltimore back in the day... That was the first time I heard it.
THis song was playing when I burned pictures of my ex-girlfriend after she dumped me for some other guy. It's one of those songs that you can't forget. I always wonder what happened to my ex-girlfriend 17 years later.
Laura B was in touch with something powerful, unwieldy, and dangerous. I still love this song and the recording. A very real moment was captured. It takes me back. And guess what? I don't wanna go back!
get lost??? It's FUCK OFF!!!! I hate when the lyrics get changed. FUCK CENSORSHIP!!!!! It takes away from the song, which I love, I actually have their cd. Excuse me I am going to listen to the REAL version
It's available on cd, I found it in a bargain bin. I think I paid $4. I love this song but it bothers me when lyrics get changed to make them pc. Thats not rock & roll, thats censorship!!! It changes the attitude of the song.
I don't know if it is true, but back when this song came out, I heard a rumor that the guy being sung about is the same guy that Concrete Blonde sang about in "Joey."
It's not the same guy. Laura's manager, when the band was together, was named Joey. The Concrete Blonde wasn't about him, either. I asked him.
As I recall, the song was, indeed, inspired by Laura B's real-life feelings about a real-life relationship. I won't name the guy. I had the "pleasure" of being the next guy in line. A wild and wonderful ride but not for the fainthearted.
Excellent and definitely a 5-star video!!! Laura B. is the greatest rock star of all-time!!! Some erroneously credit this song to Fiona Apple but it is all the magic of Laura B.
