Ok leojrevlis. You need to be prepared to take the criticism on this show or don't post the stupid videos. Stop being so ridiculously insecure and sensitive. get over yourself because this show was not as good as you think it was.
I know it's a high school production but I'm not buying anything that's going on in this scene and with these characters. I know every actor works differently and has different ideas but wow...she's has a good accent but I don't believe her. I wonder how much character development was done during rehearsals.
The guy seemed to be just focused on the sound of his voice. There doesn't seem to be any movement. It doesn;t go soft and loud at appropriate times. The guy also Slides to each note. He seems he would be a good rock singer this music doesn't do a justice to his voice. THe girl has the greatest accent. The girls voice sound like it is rocking. I can't explain it in words only in movement. Good for a high school...
great job by both of them!this was my favorite number in the intire show!great vocals and set arrangement!i dont know why you think its not for hs.just because this one kicked a*s doesnt mean you should complain!AND if your telling them to use a hs edition it just means that apperently your school cant handle a un-highschool edition.AMAZING JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
this could have been such a better show if the main character, baron, didn't look so silly.
the actor portraying him can barely fit into his costume.. and come on that mustache on him looks rediculous... you should have casted an actor that would have looked more physically compatible
"I" had nothing to do with the casting. I'm sure the actor apologizes for being thin! I'll give the director your "tip" about how to cast.. that being - by weight instead of talent. I'll also inform the make-up person that mustaches can look rediculous and ridiculous. This year's spring show has already been cast, but next year I'll make sure that a scale is placed in the audition room.
haha there is no need to be sarcastic, but i apologize for sharing my opinion or even thinking out loud.
I'm only saying if i sat in the audience during this performance i would've found it difficult to take the actor who portrayed the baron seriously. Would you watch American Beauty of Kevin Spacey was replaced by Leslie Nielson? maybe you would but you'd still find his appearance more comical then serious.
OH well, the shows already said and done, again i just wanted to share an opinion
You don't need to apologize for what you think! If I didn't "want" comments, I would disable the option. To me, it didn't sound like you were "sharing your opinion".. it was more of a crucifixion. I was "sarcastic" because you seemed blind to the concept of "limited availability" in the student body of a high school.
Please.. search more of my clips, and feel free to comment.
This is an extremely serious show and and I know for a fact that it is not suitable for high school students...whether you think they did an amazing job or not! (that is, of course, if they now have some Grand Hotel High School edition like they do Les Miz)
I really hate "school editions." If ya don't have the chops [or at least the guts] to do the "real" version, then pick another show.
Did you view the other clip.. AT THE GRAND HOTEL? [We removed the Take a Glass clip last week. I got all pissy with the "CHEATERS-CLONERS" whining comments. The director purposely directed that song "Jeter-style," but the masses could not see past their collective noses and accept it for the performance value.
@Shroder98 if you truely believe this i invite you to Broadway in Boulder's production in june to change your opinion. i mean you probably wont, just saying generalizations of "i know for a fact" about all high schools should just not be made. its directed by Angela Gaylor and David Ayers and will be amazing despite the age of the actors.
Our show was directed/choreographed by Nikki Harris...who is not only Tommy Tune's assistant, but she was also in the original broadway production as one of the 3 telephone operators AND helped to set the London production as well! Now I'm not dissing your production by any means, but I AM well aware of the callaber of this production...not to mention the lungs of steel that one has to have in order to properly sing the music!
I know Grand Hotel EXTREMELY well. When I was in college persuing my BFA in musical theater, I was in this production...I played the part of Rhona. Our production was voted the #1 Undergraduate college performance in the United States and because of this, we were awarded the opportunity to perform at the Kennedy Center in Washing DC with Tommy Tune himself sitting in the audience (wait...lemme shrink my head)!
And now for the BIG question: Why? ..I'm not being bitchy. I REALLY would like to know what makes this show unsuitable for HS, by your standards. Please explain so that I may relay your comments to the director. He's always interested in what the "general population" thinks.
I get a bit "touchy" when someone TELLS me what or what-not to "do."
Thanks for the set compliment.. It was mine. The scenic design won a state-wide award [out of 110 participating schools]. Wait.. let me shrink my head!!!!
Exposing students to these pieces help them understand a lot more about the theatre-arts than the usual crap, like Charlie Brown or My Fair Lady or Little Shop!
Past years' shows were COMPANY, FOLLIES, CABARET, etc. VERY non-typical for HS.
Ohh the couch, i have constantly mimicked joe on that thing during the past few weeks trying to do the dip kiss on the couch. Its very comfortable, too! :P
Funny you should mention the "yelp." I actually raised the volume for the "button" of that note. Ahhh - it's all electronic trickery!. Just a note: During the performances, he "overloaded" the sound system with that strong note, way into distortion.
the high A was terrible...and i hate the vowels on all of the last phrases, overall an ok performance but male lead was off pitch for a lot of the song
.. But he's a hell of a nice guy!!! He's a junior in HS, and this was his first time as "lead." As his peach-fuzz matures into a beard, I'm sure he'll acquire the knack of this acting-singing-dancing stuff. Although I hate the word "hate," thanks for your evaluation.
It makes me so happy to see him doing so well in the production. Yes there may be a couple of technical problems but I remember him oh so well as a young freshman and I tried to get him to keep with the program and keep getting better a lot. And it's rewarding for me to see how much he's improved and especially since he's such a great guy.
OMG..the baron is so good! "Who could ever have suspected...you would make me tremble so!" *swoon* He definitely can sweep any girl off her feet with that voice.
as a broadway musician, your production value is excellent. both well above the standard of a high school musical, excellent male lead, he sustains his notes supurbly, and for 98% is on pitch. Female lead should try to stay on pitch a little more, extending her notes or a longer warm up should help. Again the production value and staging are at college or community theater par. Also, more focus on the music director will solve all problems. Great Job!
That last note was fabulous!

this is my favorite song... the baron, though he does have good vibrato, his tone and intonation are not very good

I know the thrill. When this school did STEEL PIER, John Kander and David Thompson were sitting in the audience.
If you are THAT close to the show then you must realize that I cloned the set from B'way. That's what makes winning the award laughable!!!

The fact still remains that there are just some shows that should not be done by high schools...and this sure as hell is one of them!
