3rd choice would be the Jaguar XKR-S. Wondering why I didn't put the BMW in this list? Because it looks dated, it's mostly driven by women or arrogant douche bags, and you see BMW's EVERYWHERE!
Audi is the best choice.Tthe M3 is a Fantatic driving car! But there comes a point with speed that you need the advanced Quattro to keep you headed in the right direction. About the CTS.... It's just a joke.... Yea big engine fast 0-60 but it's a bad car. It's fat, ugly, made of plastics, and a gear box out of a tow truck. The right choice is RS5
@AUDILOVER2000 The RS5 looks too show-off-y. If it looked like the regular S5 (no aluminum trim and no honeycomb grille), it would be a better sport sedan. Quattro is a poor choice on a sports car--it makes it grip harder, but it makes it less fun. The 3-series is the best-selling luxury sedan b/c it is fun to drive. The Miata is the best-selling roadster b/c it is fun to drive. Too bad BMW screwed up the NA straight-6 tradition with this new M3--the V8 just doesn't make sense.

We need to stop all the unneeded manufacturing of engines. Too many e390, e40, R4 Rl9 R4TDI confuses everybody. People speak highly of Mercedes, BMW, and Audi engineering. I can't rationalize how a non-english speaking company would be so knowledgeable and strong about building high quality modern cars. But then again, Germany was WWII Powerhouse.
I'd take the RS5. Just makes the most sense for the long, snowy winters of Chicago and seems like it's the best all rounder with the best interior, looks, equipment and performance. I think the M3's getting a little boring and the only advantage it has on the Audi, is it can drift.
Why did they choose the automatic CTS instead of the manual? The auto isn't up to par, but the manual is great, and I'm sure it would be enough to vault it over the others. They're all great though and I'd be happy to have any of them in my garage

Yes the Cadillac has 100 more bhp, but if you do a cost compairson all the cars are around 70k. So in that respect they are competitors. Although the Cadillac is a nice car, I would much rather drive a German made automobile, much more prestige in driving a BMW or an Audi!
As far as comparing the CTS-V coupe to another car in its hp class, try the Mercedes CLK-63 Black Series, and the Cadillac would'nt have a chance, but this car is also 130k.
@fellowcraft1 the only reason why the caddy is so cheap for what it can do is because its made in america. and the M3 is handmade in Regensburg , Germany and theyre also shipped here which increases the cost by a good 15k. but if the M3 was made in america too it would cost around 45k

Some people really don't care about prestige, some actually rebel against it, hence you have cars with "Blueblood" engines that are prestige car killers, like the CTS-V or a Ford GT for example, which has a truck engine in it:)
The Ford GT is an awesome car, I absolutely love it from its sound to its style, performance. Its got it all, but when compared to likes of the McLaren MP4 12C, Ascari A10, Koenigsegg CCX, Ferrari 458 Italia...the Ford GT isnt even on the radar. I love american muscle, but Europeans have performance down to a science. Americans tend to think more power equals faster....wrong wrong wrong. Besides what idiot would want to own a manual cadillac? No thanks!
@fellowcraft1, I do agree with you but there will always be people that prefer raw basics in their performance vehicles such as american muscle car lovers. Others will love the enhanced technically savvy details in cars and engines such as JDM import lovers, then there are those who love an all around sports car, not muscle car, with balance between refinement and power such as the cars you mentioned. I think every car is unique in its own way and can always be enhanced.
If there were a coupe M5 , XF-R , E63 AMG and RS6 .. this CTS-V will be the real competitor so the CTS-V here is certainly and definitely the best in all terms because you're comparing it with the lower classes like M3 and RS5

@salzero1 true awd has it's disadvantages which u certainly pointed out. But put a rwd car into a tight corner at 80 mph and a awd and see Which one comes out faster, which out drifting. If ur diffention of handling is being able to slide and not spin around then yes BMW has it but still under any diffention of handling u will notice traction is the biggest part staying in the corner with out breaking lose to put best time possible
@dwill8919 I agree, but just because a car has awd doesnt mean it handles better. handling has to do with suspension and breaking for the most part. On the traction side yes, awd is much better as well as a tire with a good foot print.
More hp (less torque though) better trans and diff. Brakes I say wuld go to m3 or cts v but over all the Audi is the best. If all BMW has left up it's sleeve is a better connection to the road(which sliding around a corner instead of huggin it isn't connection in any sense) then BMW u truly have become sad in ur old age and therefore FAIL! Audi looks better also

@dwill8919 FYI AWD doesn't equal better handling. Better traction yes, not handling. Also, AWD absorbs much of your HP due to the fact that power has to go to 4 wheels vs 2. AWD is definitely better on the launch.

@salzero1 GM didn't put up a bunch of money to engineer a new product. Cadillac had a nice car and some Corvette boys (Mallett) from Cleveland Ohio shoehorned a monster Corvette power plant into a CTS to show them what it really should be. Cadillac took it from there and refined it. If the new M5 eclipses the CTS-V by a small margin, GM will unlikely knock them off again this year. Next year, a CTS-VR version will push 600+hp, shaved weight, better suspension, and wider tires. BMWho?

@Osmosium2507 Yeah power is not everything, neither is money huh? At 170K for the Porsche and 70k for the Caddy CTS-V the 100K difference should be more than seconds around the Ring. Check out your beloved BMW M3 or Porsche numbers for the VIR lightning lap. Only the 911 turbo S and GT3 can beat the Caddy. The Ring is all about conditions and driver because it is hard to perfect since it is so long. I seriously doubt a Panamera is faster around the VIR than the 911 or the Cayman.
@highvelocity1000 Ok that is right but for 100k in the Panamera you get a little bit more than a few seconds, for example a Porsche, air suspension, best engineering in the world, and option on nearly every luxary equipment. And the Nordschleife is a bad example, because there are some who realy tried hard to get a time and some who made a time to have one.

@flamegs23 It's in Germany being judged by German judges when it was in America and got judged by American judges it got favored in 1st place. Germans hates America and the Cadillac is an American luxury brand that is superior to the German's Audi and BMW luxury brand. Overall quality was actually 3 to 3. Power train quality went to BMW as well. Performance went to BMW 4 to Cadillacs 3 & believe it or not, body and interior dependability went to BMW lol.

Yes the Cadillac has 100 more bhp, but if you do a cost compairson all the cars are around 70k. So in that respect they are competitors. Although the Cadillac is a nice car, I would much rather drive a German made automobile, much more prestige in driving a BMW or an Audi!
As far as comparing the CTS-V coupe to another car in its hp class, try the Mercedes CLK-63 Black Series, and the Cadillac would'nt have a chance, but this car is also 130k.

@fellowcraft1 the only reason why the caddy is so cheap for what it can do is because its made in america. and the M3 is handmade in Regensburg , Germany and theyre also shipped here which increases the cost by a good 15k. but if the M3 was made in america too it would cost around 45k

Some people really don't care about prestige, some actually rebel against it, hence you have cars with "Blueblood" engines that are prestige car killers, like the CTS-V or a Ford GT for example, which has a truck engine in it:)

The Ford GT is an awesome car, I absolutely love it from its sound to its style, performance. Its got it all, but when compared to likes of the McLaren MP4 12C, Ascari A10, Koenigsegg CCX, Ferrari 458 Italia...the Ford GT isnt even on the radar. I love american muscle, but Europeans have performance down to a science. Americans tend to think more power equals faster....wrong wrong wrong. @fellowcraft1, I do agree with you but there will always be people that prefer raw basics in their performance vehicles such as american muscle car lovers. Others will love the enhanced technically savvy details in cars and engines such as JDM import lovers, then there are those who love an all around sports car, not muscle car, with balance between refinement and power such as the cars you mentioned. I think every car is unique in its own way and can always be enhanced.

Americans are stepping up...that new mustang boss is giving the m3 a run for it's money. I've heard but I'm not sure that is pulling in faster lap times. But I'm not 100 percent sure. As far as the Cadillac, I can see myself driving one but it would have to be manual

Now in a straight line ok we all kno m3 is a monster not taking that away but u do more then drive in a straight line so Audi still out does bimmer. @salzero1 true awd has it's disadvantages which u certainly pointed out. But put a rwd car into a tight corner at 80 mph and a awd and see Which one comes out faster, which out drifting. If ur diffention of handling is being able to slide and not spin around then yes BMW has it but still under any diffention of handling u will notice traction is the biggest part staying in the corner with out breaking lose to put best time possible

More hp (less torque though) better trans and diff. Brakes I say wuld go to m3 or cts v but over all the Audi is the best. If all BMW has left up it's sleeve is a better connection to the road(which sliding around a corner instead of huggin it isn't connection in any sense) then BMW u truly have become sad in ur old age and therefore FAIL! @dwill8919 FYI AWD doesn't equal better handling. Better traction yes, not handling. Also, AWD absorbs much of your HP due to the fact that power has to go to 4 wheels vs 2. AWD is definitely better on the launch.

@salzero1 I think you are getting ahead of yourself. Until they run against each other in a shootout the CTS-V still is "The Fastest Production Sedan in the World". If that weren't true why would BMW invest so much money in trying to beat the Caddy? Don't believe the hype yet. Another thing to remember is you can't get a BMW M5 for 70K. C/D says 90K will fetch you one, but I'll bet you'll need to tack another 10% on that before you get the keys.

@salzero1 GM didn't put up a bunch of money to engineer a new product. Cadillac had a nice car and some Corvette boys (Mallett) from Cleveland Ohio shoehorned a monster Corvette power plant into a CTS to show them what it really should be. Cadillac took it from there and refined it. If the new M5 eclipses the CTS-V by a small margin, GM will unlikely knock them off again this year. Next year, a CTS-VR version will push 600+hp, shaved weight, better suspension, and wider tires. BMWho?

@Osmosium2507 Yeah power is not everything, neither is money huh? At 170K for the Porsche and 70k for the Caddy CTS-V the 100K difference should be more than seconds around the Ring. Check out your beloved BMW M3 or Porsche numbers for the VIR lightning lap. Only the 911 turbo S and GT3 can beat the Caddy. The Ring is all about conditions and driver because it is hard to perfect since it is so long. I seriously doubt a Panamera is faster around the VIR than the 911 or the Cayman.

And the Nordschleife is a bad example, because there are some who realy tried hard to get a time and some who made a time to have one.

Germans hates America and the Cadillac is an American luxury brand that is superior to the German's Audi and BMW luxury brand. I will agree with you one point. The Cadillac CTS-V is a good car.

Also this guys facts are all wrong. Go to JD Powers website and look up the ratings in all 3 segments. Quality, Performance & Design, the reliability. Bmw actually beat Cadillac in many categories. Overall quality was actually 3 to 3. Power train quality went to BMW as well. Performance went to BMW 4 to Cadillacs 3 & believe it or not, body and interior dependability went to BMW lol.
