I noticed you have both a displacement lubricator and mechanical lubricator on this engine...Are both available to supply steam oil, and if so which have you found better to use (I am building a 5A myself and am considering my lubrication options. Best Regards, Cliff
This is very lovely - you have some excellent things! I see that you have tried the same trick with the brass pipe and the hand pump as I have. Are these all from eBay?
The majority of the "accessories" I have bought are from model engineering shops either via eBay, on line or at model engineering shows that I have been to. Hope this helps?
very very nice engine and boiler plant set up, the mechanical lubricator is it a rachet and spring style, if so please may i ask where you baught it if you didnt make it. thanks.
Thanks for message. Yes it is a rachet and spring type Lubricator and they are sold in, I would think, the majority of model engineering shops/stockists. You should find the stockists advertised in all the Model Engineering magazines. Hope this helps?
Although boiler running at 60psi, steam valve is only open very slightly. I can only open steam valve a touch more as the speed of the engine makes it virtually jump off of the table. At the end of steaming with fire nearly out and only 5psi showing on pressure gauge the 5a is still turning over very slowly and smoothly.

you crafty sod,ive only just noticed,is that a little mamod or willesco driving your water feed pump there
eatmypies 2 years ago
Stuart boiler feed pump is bolted to and run from 5A.
Water recycling into reservoir is adjusted by valve.
No Mamod or Willesco owned or used. Nothing crafty here.

Stuarts supply books on how to make their engines.
