You make a great point about sleeves, not sure where ingehacktack is finding them at that price but at the price I have to pay for sleeves around here I could purchase a new copy of Dominion and just keep the box sealed.
@jerseyj2 I know around here you can get what they call penny sleeves at Wal-Mart for $1 in packs of 100 (Thus - Penny sleeves). But I did that to one of my games, and they stick together so much it made the game very annoying to play. The more expensive ones don't seem to have that problem. Especially if you got the ones that have a solid color "plastic" backing. But premium sleeves require a premium price.
@SaberGeekiN Hmm..never thought to check Walmart but they sound frustrating. What are your thoughts on lamination? I'm pretty new to the living card game genre so please forgive me if my questions seem obvious lol.
I'd say just put the ones you buy in sleeves, I bought 100 pack once for like 3$, If iI buy another one I have 200, Then the ones experiencing shuffling each game are also the ones protected, game lifetime increased :)
It's important to note that the instruction booklet has very specific information about each card and what happens when weird circumstances arise. For example, when the witch is used in a game with more than two players and too few curses remain to dole them out, the curses go first to the person to the left of the dealer. Little tips like that.
For the most part, the instruction book is worthless, but in those situations, it is absolutely not.
If he picked up a 6 point card every 2 turns, and you picked up two 3 point cards every turn, you would have 12 every 2turns and therefore would of won :P
Great review! I'm going to buy it and convince my peers to play this game! I gotta help my friends to branch off to new games besides monopoly, chess, checkers, etc (the common board games). Like you said, from the little demo you played too, it seems like a game where newcomers can easily get into.
Plus, it doesn't seem like a collectible trading card game, which is a plus. Since everyone starts at the same situation as you. It all determines on 1/3 luck, and 2/3 strategy.
I played a game that had only one card that gave extra actions, and it was the most expensive card on the table. It was a game where much banter was had
You mention this is in your top 3 for games currently...I'm curious, what are the other two? It's up there for me as well, including Agricola and BSG (sometimes Tribune, for nostalgia reasons)

Great review. Thanks lads. I got my copy today. Trouble is, everyone is doing something tonight so I have no one to play my new game with. Grrrrr. I am promised a game tomorrow. but on Saturday I have a captive group of game players and there is no way they are getting out of it. Can't wait.
I'm going to look through your other reviews to see if you have reviewed the updates.
Enjoy. It's a very easy game to get people addicted on.
Save yourself the trouble of looking. We haven't done reviews on the expansions yet. However, I can assure you that we are about to get back into reviews. As soon as my new computer arrives, and editing HD video becomes less of a chore.
I don't have the newest expansion, but Intrigue adds some interesting new mechanics, which freshen up the game quite a bit. I recommend it.
Thanks for the reply. Did you ever come up with an answer about how one card relates to another by the way? I might have a game tomorrow and I'm worried about a controversy that might slow the game down. The rules seem to say that each card must be dealt with separately rather than cumulatively.
You said, sometimes a card will impact on another but you come to an understanding about it. Something about the benefit of one card impacting on that of another and creating a cumulative effect. At least that was my understanding. It is in the latter part when you are presenting the down side of the game. Not sure I understood it myself.
Ah, yeah. Sometimes cars will effect each other in certain ways. For instance, a throne room will allow you to use the action of a different card twice. So you have to figure out what that means in each situation. Usually it's pretty cut and dry. But occasionally it gets tricky. Like, what does a Throne Room do if played on another Throne Room? What about a card that allows you to draw cards and then discard? As long as your group comes to an understanding, it's rarely a problem.
However, if you need an official answer to a question, head of the the Dominion page on boardgamegeek and search their forums. They have more "official" verdicts, and big discussions for just about every question you could have.
"You are doubling a double action" is what you say and you mention the library in particular. Just trying to learn from your playing experience but I not sure what 'conclusion' you drew between yourselves.
Ah right. So, when you play Throne Room - Library, people tend to get confused as to how that works. Library allows you to draw up to 7 cards. Since you are playing that card twice, it's useless. If you draw up to 7 cards, and then immediately draw up to 7 cards, that means you aren't doing anything on the second draw.
Some people like to try and play it as, "draw up to 7 cards, play some of them, and then draw up to 7 cards". That's the wrong way to play it.
Thoughthammer has the kind you need linked on their Dominion page. They have to be Euro-style sleeves. 92mm x 59mm. American style card sleeves are a different size.
I think I'm going to need the sleeves SaberGeekiN.
Had two very intelligent nine year olds to play with today. They're very bright but I did struggle I'm afraid. We had curse cards but no witch. We followed the set up shown in the manual and they couldn't see the cards in the small picture, so set up was nearly half an hour. Uhrrr. The game referred to Kingdom cards but there weren't any. Then it referred to supply cards?
We ran out of time but they both say they want to play again.
I liked your videos ;) thanks a lot. And yeah... the instruction manual just sucks beyond belief. It looks like a faded out 70's comic book that stayed for 40 years under the sun...
we play with 5 players by adding 2 more kingdom cards to the supply, and ending the game when any 4 piles are depleted. or when the 6 and 3pt. green cards are depleted. in fact, with 24 estate cards, there's no reason why 8 people can't play, you just might not want to.
The rules are well written, but as you mention they're ugly as all heck! I don't even know why rule book designers don't like simple black on white?
I think more than 4 players would slow the game down too much, there would be a lot of downtime just sitting around waiting on your turn to come around again.
I already own and enjoy the game, but I'm sleeving mine.
Definitely like this one. Starting this review show is a lot of fun, because I get to cover some of my favorites for quite some time. And since we are only doing 1 every 3-4 weeks, I really feel like it will be a while before I have to go to my B-List games. :)

Awesome review. Especially the min/max point, having never played it myself, that was a good point to consider.

The price of sleeves! Whats wrong with penny sleeves? I find sleeves makes shuffling easier. Sounds fun though, might have to buy it!

Yea, wait until they get a deck of less than 5 cards, that'll be very interesting
