  • I think that this video represents the different conflicting sides of the mind, with the left side of the room representing the left brain, the rational and logical side and the right side of the room representing the right brain the intuitive and emotional side.

  • I love Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind

  • sublime.

  • this version is so much better then the new one

  • @Clementine648 I love that part of the movie :]

  • sort of sad... i think it's about sisters or friends and they are growing apart because one is in a relationship? am i wrong or right???

  • @NatalliaPesola I think it's about a girl who plays with the idea of still being in tune with her younger self, and she eventually drops the "child" part of herself completely in favor of becoming a woman

  • @ShadowFaint that sounds possible!

  • LIL B - I Love You

  • So peaceful, love it.

  • so wait.... is she a lesbian...?

  • @mizbabybear672 lolz no... lyk bi or something

  • well at least she wasn't a twat-swatter...

  • so cute.

  • I never knew the beginning is from that song in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

  • reminds me of early 90s childhood

  • deep...

  • im an oasis of peace. Gracias

  • stupid video. awesome song. reminds me of dot allison's shit in the 90's.

  • Achingly beautiful. I keep returning to this video. Once it grabs you - that's it :o)

  • phone call - jon brion: eternal sunshine of the spotless mind soundtrack. this is definitely a fucking beautiful piece here, thanks :)

  • This song makes me feel like I'm dreaming

  • Can somebody tell me where this clip is from?

  • eternal sunshine of the spotless mind!!!!

  • @chunkyfunkymonkeyguy I was going crazy trying to figure that out! Thank you!

  • @OrcaOrkestar no problem at all!

  • i am dreaming

  • the only thing i hate is the triangle at the beginning

  • @fariz90 I don't like it either.

  • ty based god!!!

  • i think it's about two apricots :P

  • The triangle at the end is symbolic of a penis :P

  • Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind?

  • The music and vid are beautiful ways of expressing something painful

  • Could also be sisters who are separated when the other starts dating as they grow older.

  • My personal interpretation is that the thickly metaphorical flavours of canonical.. ah ok fuck that

  • What cd is this from??? I can't find it anywhere!

  • I think it represents unrealized love between a girl and her friend. Only one of them feels that way though, and it's deep inside so the other doesn't know, and then when the guy comes, the girl who loves the other in a romantic way realizes they are not both seeing things the way she did. She then leaves, taking the guinea pig with her, which represents how she feels alienated, just as a guinea pig does not fully take part in human society, she leaves with the one thing that understands her.

  • Jay electronicas sample captures more of the emotional content of the sample with his song "the pledge"

  • the part when the girl kisses the guy and you just see the other girls face. i fucking shed a tear

  • I don't know about the meaning of the filming, but i fucking love that guinea pig

  • I can’t deny that this is really pretty sounding, but I also can’t shake the feeling that this group is something like the “American Beauty” of musical acts. Both them and their fan base come off as vain, self absorbed, heavy handedly emotional and endlessly obsessed with unabashed “beauty” to the point that it comes off as both pretentious and totally insipid at the same time. You can practically smell the narcissism in stuff like this.

  • @MBArkestra Just listen : )

  • original track

    Phone Call by Jon Brion

From Eternal Sunshine, Forever a classic.

  • hi if guys have the time then you should give Rems Floating Chandelier a listen if you you like memory house :)

  • contrived bs

  • this would have triangles in the begining

  • @youjoshd Yeah, whats up with that?

  • Did they even credit for where they got the background music?

  • Gorgeous cinematography

  • i was waiting for someone to sample that shit. thank you

  • She's Gorgeous, They Both Are.

  • @Demmm7 Given that Eternal Sunshine was released in 2004, and this in 2010, it's fairly safe to say Memoryhouse sampled AFTER Jon Brion.

Annoyingly, this still doesn't answer the question of where the original sound loop came from.

  • Pitchfork interview:

"...one of the DVDs that they left there was Eternal Sunshine. As I was watching it, I heard the music of "Phone Call". I had been a big Jon Brion, but I heard that, and it really struck a chord with me. I thought it'd be interesting to take that idea that the song really represents-- just this idea of the unconscious memory-- and bring that to the forefront and reinterpret it by making a new arrangement around it. It was a really happy accident, and I guess it worked out."

  • is this a lesbian song or something . . :\

  • @MrAkshay8opeth omfg thank you for making me pee my pants

  • @MrAkshay8opeth 'is this a lesbian song or something"

  • phone call.

  • can someone explain to me why everyone is talking about eternal sunshine of the spotless mind in the comments

  • @dylz this song is the same. also my name is Dylan too

  • @d4sh94 oh, ok. i haven't seen the movie in a very long time. thanks, dylan!

  • @dylz Because The Beat There Using Is From ESOTSM.

  • what camera is being used?

  • Comment removed

  • is this similar to Jon Brion's 'Phone call'?

  • aww f*&k!, the freaking douche bag ruins everything in this video

  • This song's video should be just be scenes from eternal sunshine

  • makes sense.

  • this doesnt make any fucking sense

  • So this has to do with what again?

  • i sense this video may have to do with a girl coming of age. the two side of the room represent her present struggle with childhood and what, 'teenhood' maybe? as she continues to grow, you will notice the younger version of her crosses the line to play the 'hand slap' game. but instead of reverting to a childhood game and indulging her, she simply gives back the pink ball..im too old to play anymore and here's ur ball back. the guy entering finalizes her maturity, and her younger side exits..

  • @rdehyah ehh...both girls look too simular buut from what i can tell, i think the girl who gave the ball back was the one who left. so the whole childhood thing doesnt work out. i think its about how a dude who they both liked broke these girls apart. after the steamy make out scene they grew distant like "bitch, i dont wanna play games witchu. you stole my man" but ill just watch this again to make sure which girl is which

  • @laloali2 - you are right so called 'mature' one is the one who left. and good theory, could be on to something with that.

  • Comment removed

  • @rdehyah uhh im not sure which is which but if im not mistaken this "younger" side that exits is not the younger side. it was "mature" side that exited.

  • @mrboxhead91 - watched it again, you are right.. 'younger' was the one who is with the guy, 'mature' exits. is it weird i now feel a wave of excitement that my theory has #failed, and consequently I get to lose myself in all of the possible meanings of this video, again..

  • @rdehyah But the girl who gets kissed is the immature side of her, and the person that walks off is the mature side, whom takes her geneui pig with her at the end.

  • @rdehyah yeah but if you notice the guy enters on the side of what you would consider the immaturity side. Your hypothesis would make more sense if he kissed the other girl. I like how you pictured this though. I never thought of it that way

  • she took the guinea pig.

  • COLORS!!! <33333

  • It would be very helpful if someone could point me into the direction of some similar artist :]

  • the girl's voice ruins everything :S

  • @catmircat your comment on this video ruins everything.

  • the song sampled Jon Brion's Phone Call from that film....

  • I find the story this video tells to be achingly beautiful....as is the music.

  • Lesbo

  • this song is so beautiful

  • @JohnnyGetSilly I know what you mean, but the more publicity they get, the more likely and able they are to dish out new material, and tour abroad.

  • speechless ..

  • what are the triangles and shapes at the beginning and end of the video for?

  • Excellent video.

    Love the Bokeh.

  • I wish this song never ended.

  • I can totally relate to this song, its very sad

  • i dont get it!!!!

    am i the only one??

  • Thank You BasedGod

  • I do believe I hear a Jon Brion sample.

  • @IfWeSleepWeFreeze holy shit that's why it sounds so familiar

  • @IfWeSleepWeFreeze I've heard it's not really HIS sample. Though I am a huge fan of both. Probably a bit more for Jon Brion though.

  • @farewelle I'm pretty sure it is Jon Brion. The pitch has been dropped a bit.

  • @IfWeSleepWeFreeze No, I know Jon Brion used it. But it's been said that it's not really HIS sample, as in he isn't the one that owns it.

  • @farewelle But like I said, I'm not entirely sure how accurate that is! I'm looking it up again.

  • @farewelle Ah, I see. Enjoyable either way.

  • @farewelle Ah, nevermind. I could have sworn I've read on last.fm about something that It's neither Memoryhouse's nor Jon Brion and that he sampled from another musician.

  • This song has a beautiful story. Does anyone else see it?

  • @malicom258 I definitely agree with you, whats your take on the story?

  • @avatarfan22122

What I see are two friends divided. On one side of the room is the more proper, no-nonsense girl, and on the other side is the peachy, fun-loving character. They'd hate to be seen together because of their differences, so they don't talk during the day. At night when no one can see, they play hand games and interact.

Towards the end when the guy comes in, he splits the girls in two. One of the girls get jelous, leaves, takes the hamster symbolizing"an only friend" and leaves her

  • @malicom258 not a hamster it's a guinea pig!

  • @avatarfan22122

    what do you think?

  • cmw 2011 artist - toronto canada march - blogging the artists.

  • Eternal sunshine for the spotless mind ?

  • @dylanhoka Yes! Jon Brion.

  • @dylanhoka yeah thats defo jon brion

  • @dylanhoka

Good ear! The one they use in ESOTSM is actually Jon Brion's remake, titled "Phone Call". This is supposedly the original... Maybe my research has concluded falsely, though...

I just saw the movie yesterday, and I had recognized it from The Most Serene Republic's "Photocall".

It's a great sequence of chords, that's for sure. :)

  • Comment removed

  • @dylanhoka Very nice. Thanks!

  • the straight-bang trend must end. NOW.

  • @beeftothetaco Omg never listen to this man.

  • Did anybody notice the unity triangles at the beginning and end of the video? Absolutely beautiful.

  • this was great but its nothing on the original...or jay electronicas

  • There's absolutely no way Jon Brion sampled Phone Call from this band. It's definitely them sampling his work.

  • Yep is jon brion phone call, I love that song and the movie just amazing

  • Dang this group is awesome the film the eerie but calming music...its as though im in the midst of a fantasy or something...great stuff!!!!!

  • Great Track, dont care who it sounds like to other youtube users. Rest of the EP is nice. Will be listening to it on vinyl soon with a dynaco SCA 35 tube amp, on a denon dp-37f turntable and some awesome axiom speakers, dual amplification to a marantz 2235b pushing polk s10 speakers and a tube aric audio preamp in signal chain. enjoyed this ep when i took a trip through mountain regions recently. great to listen to in hotel beds, on the road, etc.

  • @airbornef16 Wow, you really like to hear yourself talk, huh?

  • Foxes in Fiction cover of this..

    f.t.w.

  • If you make music to get credit. You aren't making music, you are making a product that is for sale. Don't sit there and fucking tell me you shouldn't do it for free, I know where you are coming from. But, there will never EVER be a day Money > or = to music. You don't matter in this world if all you do is tell someone what they owe.

  • @rickp46 Boy was I upset last night. I guess I feel I am right and wrong. I needed to be more honest about what I felt was the difference between making a living doing what you love and making lots of money doing what you're capable of. I figure none of us are the author of these sounds. We just discover them. If you discover it first, don't own it. Be thankful and gracious that your ears and eyes made it first. It was a gift.

  • @blumangochick95 I am calm.

  • As sad as it is: 1:26 I was waiting for an intense make out

  • @thekismetkid I think its supposed to make you feel that way for that fleeting second... sort of bittersweet this video... :)

  • @thekismetkid hahaha shamefully had the same hope :// lol

  • @blumangochick95 You aren't too bright, are you? It's about a girl in love with her best friend, who's also a girl. But her heart gets broken when a guy tell her friend he loves her, and she starts into a relationship with him. So their friendship goes downhill.

  • Come on.. credit for a 2 second riff, that's BS. About everything get's recycled nowadays, that's a trend seen in all music styles.

If every band would have to 'credit' all other artists for every riff or sample they used in their own music it would get a little tedious wouldn't it? Everything get's remixed, revised, redone, used etc. F that, just enjoy the music if you like it.

  • @XpRnz Don't be ridiculous. Sure, a lot of people use sampling nowadays... That doesn't mean credit shouldn't be given where credit is due. Sure, enjoy the music, don't get too caught up in the legal aspects, etc, but considering there is only one sample in this song (as far as I know), and it basically MAKES the song (the "hook," if you will), it's definitely not too much to ask to have Jon Brion credited (and I've seen him credited almost every other time I've seen this song posted somewhere).

  • @XpRnz that riff is the core of the song ...

  • @XpRnz I don't know, I'm pretty sure there will be a lot of happy lawyers if bands did what you suggest them to do.

  • Love it, thanks for the comments about Jon Brion and ESOTSM, it was bugging me where I'd heard the guitar riff!!

  • jay electronica,

  • did Jon Brion do this first and these guys sampled 'phonecall' from the ESOTSM soundtrack or was it the other way around? if this is recent it deserves to be credited to Brion - but it is the best possible use of this sample, in my opinion. very beautiful.

  • Guinea Pigs FTW!!!
