  • h0102468 your and idiot, this is a fine review. Rubbish american? He doesn't even sound American

  • This should cost $500 at least. This is a rip off.

  • I don't agree with some of the cons here. Basically, u are a Sony-hater. So if u are a bloody hater from other brands, why did u make a review? I think the reason is simply because u are a rubbish American. Most Americas hate Sony and therefore u made such a sensational review to make Japanese look stupid.

  • @h0102468 most americans hate sony. are you kidding me im an american and i love sony products i consider them top of the line. a company appeals to different individuals not to specific countries. they produce for all nations

  • your not using it correctly remember those foam pads you unboxed? those are for your cheek bones it has to he put into the device

  • Thanks for the review! I appreciated all the detail you provided. Sounds like it has potential but I'll hold out until the release of a 2nd or 3rd generation model.

  • Its too expensive

  • thank you for a great honest review ! i have a sony 55inch led 3D tv and it sucks in 3D

    crosstalk like hell

  • I think is good for video game only, like if you wanna play on your PS3 without disturbing others, and letting your wife use the TV. lol

  • Bro your $800 went to the little black box that you have there. that's the most expensive part of all that..

  • gotta love videos with sound only out of the left speaker -_-

  • Great review... quite frank.

  • What is the use of this if I need to spend twice of the price of a 3D TV to buy it?

  • Do you need a 3D TV to actually watch 3D content on the HMZ-T1? or is it already built in?

  • ffs its called a PERSONAL 3d viewer. If you wanna watch a movie with your wife play it on the tv. And no it wouldn't just be a ps3 accessory you can use it on any device that uses an hdmi output! so you could use it on your computer and xbox 360 etc. I'm not saying i disagree that this product is a waste of money, but if you're gonna review a product don't shit on it by saying bullshit about it.

  • Hmm it costs £800 here and $800 there. You get it quite cheap like everything else lol. I don't know why he's complaining about the lack of HDMI inputs etc when he could have researched that before buying it!

  • @piccadillydave and you can have a hdmi splitter between the ps3 and the box, or between the box and the possibly 12 headsets or something, in theory at least

  • Okay boys and girls do not buy this product so I have a chance on buying this product mohhahahahahahaaaaaaa!

  • Shit review from a dumb twat.

  • @Andrew9111990 yes you can

  • so can i wear my glasses with it?

  • I bought this device and once I set it right for me it is awesome the only thing that I hate about it is that it made not want to play games or watch movies on my top of the line 3d tv

  • why should it have more then 1 HDMI input??

  • lol! nintendo did this like over a decade ago...

SONY thinks people are really dumb to buy this and obviously there are really idiots out there who already bought this! HAHAHAHAHA

  • I owned one for around 20minutes before I figured it's not worth it. And for those who say it's like watching a 150 inch screen? wtf are you smoking? My 27" desktop LCD seems about the same size as the image in the glasses, really disappointing.

  • I had one and I sent it back, this is the most accurate review I have seen by FAR

  • thank you so much to not make me to spend $800 dollars in this gadget that is not worth it

  • @uanemabell78 its a good review what the fuck do you want him to say its so sosoooo good, please you sound like you work for sony THIS GUY IS THE TRUTH and i love it because he saying what i was thinking i was thinking about buying it,but all other reviews are like oh my godd its great great great.i no diffrent because i a not kid getting carried away buy hype, even the headphones look really cheap the unit is a plastic mess

  • @gcirc i'm not saying he's wrong but my point is, he should have tried it before then buy it,i tried it at my friends house,it's a cool device, not worth that money for sure. 300 dollars would be a freakin yes, 800 dollars NO but at least i respect all the companies who make this stuff and i don't like them to lose money that's all, maybe at the end of 2013 sony will make a better version, lighter, better audio and head trackin integrated, for now that's it,don't buy it then complain!!

  • so final review people dont buy it cheap quility headset 150kilos hurts your head after 20mins WTF SONY

  • it does look crazy cheap like it should cost 299 at most

  • @gcirc it is cheap, its a pos

  • @supergadgetguy thanks for this very real review all other reviews is sucking sony nuts(i like sony have ps3 and 3dtv).thanks again.

  • @mayamanignyou do own 1 ???

  • Does this play TV?

  • Almost every hmd I've owned had the cord in a similar place. Pretty common

  • Would you be able to connect a computer to this? Via HDMI? I do video editing for a living and would love to try this.. But I'm a bit concerned about the clarity of the picture in the corners.. Anyone tried this?

  • BF3 + this -- jizz

  • I think while your review was thorough it was rather unfair. The device is revolutionary in this segment as compared to other HMD. This is a great start.

  • before u bought it, u should have tried it in a freakin store, that's y economy in the states is suckin, people buy stuff, try it for 40 days then give it back, it's like renting without paying anything,if i was sony i'd give u back 80% of what u paid cuz u used it and made it unusable! they won't make a second version of this even because of u! there are mods for 20 dollars u can apply on this and it will be comfortable so please stop all the whining and try to make shit work!

  • @uanemabell78 I wish I had that option, but the closest store to me that carries it is several hundred miles away.

  • the whole border is fuzzy as hell, i was so dissapointed..

  • good review, I have one and they kinda suck

  • I have a more logical question for you about the viewers. What movies did you watch in 3D? It seems to me that this is a very important question simply because of the vast differences in the quality of the movies themselves. I understand what you said about watching through goggles. I ordered a pair of these and they are due to arrive this week! I'm in Afghanistan right now and I can't think of a better way to watch my movies or play my games. This way I don't piss off neighbors or roommates.

  • All he did was complained

    Kindle fire are you kidding

    What a little bitch

  • Thinking of getting this , glad you said it's better for video games since that's what I mainly want it for, i wonder how battlefield 3 looks on this

  • Nice review.. Still its impossible to compare OLED's with LCD's, since OLEDs are so dang expensive.. From a consumer viewpoint, i can not agree more. I am looking at HMD's now for a while and this still seems the cheapest 720P OLED based HMD i have found.

  • very helpfull,

    greets from germany =)

  • The box is necessary so it can decode the TV 120Hz signal (two alternating pictures are sent to each lcd display on the old active shutter glasses while now .. it takes each picture to send it to the independent OLED screens of the new device .. since the 3D TVs do not have embedded or foreseen for such codec , it needs to pass through a separate device). Thats what the box is for... If they did that codec box ..wireless (and they should) unfortunately it would raise the price even more....)

  • @Valsam75 Now that makes a lot of sense. But does it have to be that big? and they should have included more than 1 HDMI input option. No asking for wireless as we will have to deal with the whole power/bandwidth issues with the dual stream 720P content.

  • Could hav been a great product, maybe v2 or 3 will be better

  • Sony did a fucking good job with its new HMD, it paves the way towards getting more and more refined sets, and makes virtual reality ever closer...

You people don't even realize that we're currently living through the rise of the virtual world.

  • LEWL KINDLE FIRE

  • Great review and echos my thoughts almost exactly. I only demoed it in an uncomfortable setting and while it had great points it was not quite "there". The main issues for me were the optics (swimming mask) and poor sound.

Even at that I am still considering it for gaming...

  • You can see my FULL review on SONY's 3D Personal Viewer: HMZ-T1 on my channel. :)

  • How do I buy it, it doesn't seem to be available on Sony's homepage?

  • @Ryuuken24 At the sony store page, not the sony page. Search for sony store hmz and you'll find it.

  • @nitebliss3 you idiot, it's a review video. He stated the bads and goods of the viewer. How much more of a "MAN" are you. Go kill yourself mate

  • i'll wait for apple to release theirs. THAT, would be a complete device.

  • Why doesn't someone combine this and the new Sony headsets that came out? (The PS ones)

  • That's why it's called Personal viewer !!! Ugh

  • Shut the fuck up!!! U whine too much for a man...it's the first of it kind ...

  • Mate TOO much wining :P

  • id love to try this, great break down of the product....

  • Comment removed

  • And watching porn!

  • Great Review!

Which film did you watch in 3D? Because I watched Tangled & Tron both in 3D and thought they were both phenomenal, so much better than the cinema's 3D! (Some 3D films are converted bad and suck though).

As for games, Batman Arkham Asylum has great depth!

Battlefield 3 (2D) flying the jets is an amazing experience.

I agree about the light blockers, almost impossible to put on whilst wearing the HMD.

I have a video review up also if you want to check it out? Thanks :)

  • @SuperGadgetGuy question: What is the virtual screen size? you mention 45 inch tv at one point....is that the rough virtual size of the "screen"?

  • Fair review. I dont understand why Sony didn't pay more attention to the cable. And come on. Why so cheap headphone? Sony can do much better then this.

And Sony must know much people will use this for there gaming experiance.

So why didnt they put a mic on the thing?

Was it all to have a pride reduction?

Lets hope this is the first of many 3D viewers. And lets hope that Samsung, Sennheizer, Apple and other companies will pick this up and make it a lot better.

  • i was interested in this thing but after watching this im not to sure anymore i might just get it and return it if i dont like it thanks for the review

  • this thing is over priced like chuck norris' shit

  • Thanks for the very thorough and thoughtful review!

But I have to second some of the previous comments, this is designed for a small niche, and the whole point is complete immersion. To some of us who play a lot of games, it's worth that much to get the immersive experience.

Also, this is the first phase of probably a wave of HMD products to come, it's sony's way of testing the water. Like any other information technology based product, it will be half of what it cost a year from now on.

  • Not wearing them for more then 30 minutes..? That'll be a problem.

  • I wonder if there's something wrong with the optics in the model you received. I tried this at the Sony store in Las Vegas last week and the 3D was the best I've ever seen. In terms of 3D, It beats TVs that cost 10 times more than it IMHO. I didn't notices the fuzzy edges at all. The entire picture was crystal clear.

  • does it have settings to play audio out to home theater? do i have to listen to the sound so close with out the bass reflex of a surround sound? im considering buying one of these but not sure yet.

  • @SpectrumPS3 You can have it by pass to the other HDMI. So if you have home theater setup on the HDMI out you should be able to do it.

  • You should have waited for the reviews to start rushing in, before you actually choose to buy it. This is a novelty item, it will probably be upgraded at some point, or even replaced. Sony is pushing VR system hardware, so to next year they are going to show what they've got, so the HMZ-T1 is like a stepping stone to the whole thing, they want to see if it generates money. You can sell this to someone else, I bet they will buy it off ya. Cheers!

  • @Ryuuken24 It's still within the return period. I can return it to sony but at the same time i really like it for PS3 while playing GT 5. Very conflicted. There is already a hack someone has adopted it to use with with a head tracking system for VR. Promising technology, will wait to see what Sony or other company will do with it. I was hoping for a better over experience.

  • wow, your nick is SuperGadgetGuy, but you seem to miss the point of the product entirely and don't seem to understand current technology. This is the best commercial grade HMD available in terms of resolution and FOV to date. i've owned 3 HMDs, including this one, and i've gotta say, this is miles ahead of the competition. This is not meant to replace a 3DTV (its all about immersion). Also why not compare the price of a 60" 3DTV to 12 kindle fires? one has nothing to do with the other. fail

  • @gunnhed It is miles ahead but I still don't feel like it's ready for prime time. It's great technology but it failed as a consumer product for me. I just want people to understand its limitations with a more actual expectations of what they are purchasing.

  • @gunnhed Yes, it is the best available, which is why I preordered and was curious to see what this little gadget could do... If you've got one, enjoy it. As I said in my review, I felt like I was watching a movie through goggles and I thought the gaming experience was awesome. Since I was hoping to use it primarily as a portable 3d movie viewer, I'll wait for v2.

  • @SuperGadgetGuy how good is this with normal movies not 3d? also how is this for computer screens?

  • @SuperGadgetGuy oh also any suggestions for vr headset like this? i want mine for my laptop and tv. Any suggestions?

  • Man I really wanted this just to watch my 3D movies for most part. Now that I saw you review not so sure. So the 3D is not as good as watching it in the movies or a regular 3D tv?

  • @arnoldgd84 correct. my personal opinion that the 3D effect of movies is not as strong as I've seen in theater or the 3D TV demo at Best Buy. I don't have an actual 3DTV to compare.

  • Dude, I really dont get your "cons". You say that 3D movie is not so good basically, but gaming experience is "wow"...how can there be such a difference between both?

Perhaps you converted 2D to 3D and did not use actual 3D blu rays..i imagine there is a difference.

Also, the 3D on such a system should be the best, since each eye has a screen, on a TV the images come from 1 screen and the glasses have to do the work => crossover effect!

But this effect is impossible with this system...

  • @Erikootje I guess i am comparing to the other 3D movie experience I had either it's IMAX or Real3D which has a better field of view. I would like more if the view wasn't so narrow. It doesn't have any cross over or ghosting but unless you look at it at a perfect angle it;s blurry. It also limits the focus to the center of the screen that feels weird when you can't see anything other than the screen. It's hard to explain. Movies I used to test is Avatar, Captain America and Thor, all in 3D.

  • @SuperGadgetGuy I feel like the 3D effect is strong with a dynamically generated content vs. a prerecorded one and effect increase even more when you are controlling the movement of the car while having a first person driver view. So in general makes the immersion experience more realistic.

  • you just was complaining about how expensive it is and you cant get a 2 of this spec, why do you want more than 2 HDMI behind? wanna buy 4 of it ? and its first freaking personal viewer and that's it price, you don't like it because you want a TV better? then get a TV, don't make it looks like shit o.O

  • @GamesArt86 My complain was the breakout box. if it's really needed it should have more HDMI inputs. The comment about buying two is if i ever want to watch something with my wife the cost increases dramatically vs. a 3D tv which an extra pair of 3D glasses is only $50, not another TV.

  • @SuperGadgetGuy I understand you =), Regardless the Negatives, but it's call "personal viewer" "1 person" "personal use only" , it's totally different than a TV my friend, different use, different cost, thanks for the review anyway, hope we see more =)

  • @ SuperGadgetGuy

Question: I own a Samsung 40in 6420 Series 3D HDTV & i'm not happy with it due of the the issue i'm having like when i turn on 120hz mode, i get control lag in games & force me to use Game Mode which make the Image Quality look like crap & there the very dark 3D, but the picture quality is good.

You think i should get the Sony HMZ-T1 over this 3D HDTV because i can easy hook it up to the Cable Box HDMI & play my PS3 games lag free with great picture image quality & great 3D.

  • @CapitanRamirez You need to consider if you will be the only one using it. Adjusting it for another person back and forth is a pain. Also you need to think about switching between HDMI sources since it only has 1 input. No lag when I played GT 5 on it. I really like the game play on it.

  • 1. comparing this to a tv is like comparing an ipod to a stereo system.

    2. you basically paying for the oled screens.

    3. poor 3d effect in movies is because of the movie, most are crap.

    4. the box is the video processor

    5. its a PERSONAL video viewer.. not a two person video viewer.. get a freakin TV if thats what you want

  • @JogBird just what I wanted to say, lol,+ if the 3D Games looks great, so there something wrong with your 3D Movie, o.O

  • @JogBird

yeah, i kinda agree with what you say, cause I dont get what the reviewer said. He says that 3D movie is not so good basically, but gaming experience is "wow"...how can there be such a difference?

He did not even say if the movies he saw were converted to 3D or actual 3D blu rays..i imagine there is a difference.

Also, the 3D on such a system should be the best, since each eye has a screen, on a TV you wair glasses => crossover effect! This effect is impossible with this system.

  • @JogBird Yes, I agree about the price, but the box is an issue that few of the published reviews are commenting on and it DOES IMPACT the usefulness of this item, as I'm certain I am not the only person who imagined using this on an airplane. Additionally, yes, it's a personal viewer meant to be an immersive experience, but since it is being marketed as a gamer's accessory, it really ought to have better audio and microphone capabilities. .....

  • @SuperGadgetGuy .... Even though it is intended for use by one person at a time, I suspect people will want to try/share it, but the sizing capabilities of it are so touchy, sharing it is not as easy as just handing someone headphones and quickly resizing the band. As I'm doing a REVIEW and none is paying me to endorse anything, I'm just interested in pointing out to people what they're getting for $800.

  • @JogBird i agree. hmz 21 seems like a winner to me

  • I've been debating if it's time to switch to 3D but so far, I have not found any reviews that convinced me to switch. 3Dtv's are not perfect at the moment. This Sony headset is definitely not worth it according to your reviews. It's so expensive! I'll just have to wait it out before they refine and drop prices on 3D technology

  • Goodday sir, thank you for sharing any information you can with us about the Sony Personal 3d viewer. However I have some questions which I hope you will answer.

    1. If money was no problem, would that change your view about this product?

    2. Is it really bad for movies or does that depend on the person / settings?

    3. How good is the sound? Do you hear a good bass, does it really give a surround feeling, and can it be really loud? How good is the sound quality on a scale of 1 to 10. Thank you!

  • @Ism433ism If money is not a question here then YES This is the best consumer level 3D Headmount display you can buy. Again if money is not an issue I would buy it just for games and a large 3D tv for movies. The sound quality of the headphone is the really the low point here. It feels like a cheap headphone left over from making Sony Walkman. Again if money is not an issue, you can use it in conjunction with a surround sound system.

  • great review.. i agree samsung or apple will def refine it. i dont see apple giving anything less than an amazing design.

  • @jimijackson right. No doubt about the technology of the OLED display or it's the best HMD out there. Just trying to factor against the fact i can only use it 20 minutes at a time and it left an imprint on my forehead every time.

  • @SuperGadgetGuy lol yes...they needed to leverage the weight across a greater surface area (im sure there will be a diy fix) and also making it more compact couldnt hurt!

Im intrigued by it all. I think its a step in the right direction the way the ipod / iphone sparked a revolution ofsorts.,

  • Still going to get it.

  • @CapitanRamirez great!

  • Man, I certainly wanted to love this device but it seems like it's just not ready, yet. I have had my money for months but I just can't justify the buy based on what you've experienced. The device was a gift to you so I see no reason to doubt what you're saying (some people will try to justify the purchase since they spent so much on it). I've had my heart set on the purchase but......I guess I'll pass.

Thanks for the review, man. It helped me out a lot!

  • @d21lewis Ya, no problem. I wish there are more places for people to try them on. It's a gift from my wife but we decided to return it. I will have Kindle Fire to keep me busy until then.

  • @d21lewis The same with me after watching this im very dissapointed as I realy wanted this

  • Thanks for the review SuperGadgetGuy!

  • @9978sol You are welcome. I hope my review helped. It's just my opinion. You need to watch some of the other reviews which gives a pretty positive opinion on this viewer..

  • About the cable you are wrong, there is a clip in the box that redirect the cable and enable you to attach it to the back of the HMD, it will then not disturb you in any way, you won't even feel it.

Look in you box, it is a little plastic S

  • @olivierJT Yes I found the S clip and found its usage in the manual. To me that just show it's an after thought. Not part of the design. They should have designed it better so I don't have to use the extra S clip to mange the cable. I want to be able to use it without the manual and not have to read through the booklet to learn how to tuck the cable away. I am really picky.

  • I totally don't agree, if you comapre to other HMD

Compared to other HMD this is absolutely amazing at that price.

    HMD in 720p ?

None available to consumer, there are some military or pro model price in the 5000/200000 USD range (a big range)

The ony HMD to consumer are max 800*600 and good luck getting one, as most of them are 5xx*3xx crapy res.

And yes Sony is marketing as a consumer product so comparing to Projector and TV, yes I agree with you.

Go to widescreengamingforum for real info

  • @olivierJT I agree with you 100% that's it's a product that offers great technology. Just i don't recommend people buying it as it's too cutting edgy that the value proposition isn't there. Better to get a 3D TV or even the Sony Playstation TV for better experience. Just as a consumer I demand company to offer a product that's usable not just better than the rest. Think of iPods. It's not the first mp3 player but it's the first one that offers a great user experience. Maybe I am too demanding.

  • @SuperGadgetGuy I am not buying a piece of technology but an user experience. Technology wise, the 3D display is the best technology out there for a consumer but experience wise i feel like I can get more out of my money by buying other consumer electronics.

  • i dont like the new mic it only plays out of one of my earphones.

  • @CptBubbles504 Thanks Didn't realize that during editing. I will check the settings to see why it's only 1 audio channel.

  • @CptBubbles504 just check it out in details. looks like the new mic only produces audio to the left channel. I will need to get a mono to stereo adapter to have audio feed to both ears. I will get that before making another video.
