The Heat will find themselves lookin like (sadly, my) Dallas Cowboys this season. Talented, sure, but they wont fit together, they're too immature, etc. Pippen was one of the only first ballot HOFers who will forever be completely underrated. I watched him though (thanks God) and I know what he brought. Total beast.
@lildavid35 Wow, old comment! ;) So, I've since changed my stance on the Heat's success: They will win championships, but that doesnt mean they arent bad for the game. I think championships are probably overrated. Being classy is more important. Anyway... Pippen rules. Dirk rules. LBJ's a chickenhead. MJ is the GOAT.
for better or for worse, because scottie played alongside jordan, he will forever be underrated.
just look at his athleticism, vertical leap, and ballhandling ability - he really was a top-tier player, with more than enough talent to carry a team on his own. if he and jordan were on different teams, it would've been a kobe-lebron level rivalry, i guarantee it. it just so happens they wound up playing together.
and Jordan had the nerves to say he didn't have help or would have played with other stars.... you cocky fool Pippen was a star among stars.... PIPPEN is no robin
Pippen is definitely one of finest all-around players ever. What I don't like about him was that they elevated him to greatness way before he was a legend; putting him on the Dream Team when others deserved it more at the time. As great a defender as Pippen was, Jordan was simply a little better. Pippen was an athletic guy with a long wirey body who did all aspects of basketball well; a jack of all trades/master of none (maybe except defense).
@Ryenobal man i think scottie is a much better perimeter defender than mj. mj averaged more steals, but other than that scottie was better at locking down opposing stars. i know loads of ppl may scream at me for this, but i think that mj was an overrated defender. he did not deserve to be the defensive player of the year, especially when scottie didnt receive such honour while hes probably the best on ball defender all time along with dennis rodman
@whoohoo117 If MJ was overrated at defending...why he is tied for the most all defensive teams in his career and why he was defensive player of the year in 1988...MJ shut down everybody dumbass...every player that played against MJ will tell you that MJ was a shut down defender dumbass....Scottie wasn't no shut down defender because alot of people embarrased him alot!
@Domini478 "If MJ was overrated at defending...why he is tied for the most all defensive teams in his career and why he was defensive player of the year in 1988" thats exactly why i think that his defense is overrated...imo he doesnt deserve that many defensive honors. yes mj is a good defender, but he isnt the best. he wouldnt have received such recognition in defense if he wasnt the best player in the league. of course you may disagree but i guess im allowed to have my opinion right?
@bphatboyjohn123 Scottie made 8 all defensive first teams and he made 2 all defensive second teams...MJ got the record for the most with 9 along with Payton! Google it!
LeBron James is a force not seen since the 60's in Wilt Chamberlain, the 70's in Jabbar and the late 70's/80's in Moses Malone.
But Pippen understands that in the NBA you have to win the conference finals and finals through showing your teammates by example that intensity and concentration is needed every second of the game - especially the fourth quarter!!
Best small forward to ever play the game. He could do it all in his prime: score, defend, rebound, block shots, you name it. I heard someone say he didn't deserve to be named in the top 50 nba players or that he would've been an average player without Jordan, which is ridiculous to people who know the game. Except Kobe, I would take Scottie on my team anytime before Lebron, Wade, Carmelo, or anyone else in the league today. This guy was truly unbelievable and one of the best.
Pippen just destroyed Ewing during their respective careers....both great players but damn Pippen was just my favorite....much deserving of the hall of fame
I'm from Chicago and watched Pippen in the glory years. This guy was poetry in motion. Had the grace of a gazelle and the power of a lion. I remember when he came into the league they said he was soft. All he did was dunk on people, then he killed you with that sweet bank shot. He was a handful. Met him once.
He played with grace, he was a soldier, he wasn`t show off, or an asshole wannabe gangsta fashion rapper like contemporary players, he may not have the fame MJ has, but for real ballers, Scottie will always be one of the greatest, and even if he has no money, he knows ballers will ever respect him and his legacy.
I'd say i feel bad that one of the greatest SF of all time is alot of times forgotten because he played alongside the best player in basketball, but im sure his 6 rings make him feel better. nice game last night lebron, eat your heart out
@MegaEdwardt nah i have to disagree with you there. james hasnt won anything except individual awards and individual stats. do you think stoudemire would be who he is without nash?
i just found out something that shock me that scottie has been arrested before on domestic battery, gun possesion, and drunk driving i thought he was a good guy
Pippen was the REAL DEAL and at least his coach Phil Jackson acknowledged his skills. Most well-rounded player and KILLER HANDS. Ewing should be embarrassed from those jams lol.
Pippen and Clyde Drexler were the two most athletic players of that era, when you look at speed, quickness, and leaping ability. They were like gazelles in the open court, and nobody could cover ten feet of ground quicker than those two.
They were very similar players: both excellent rebounders for their size, great passers, could get you 20+ points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 2.5 steals. Scottie was better defensively and Clyde was the better scorer. But they could both "glide."
Pippen was better defensively, Clyde was better offensively. Both guys could run a team if you needed them to.
Pippen benefited from playing alongside MJ, while Clyde had to carry those Portland teams.
Pippen only had to carry a team once in his career. He did a pretty good job, but his numbers still didn't match Clyde's, and Drexler's teams got further. Plus, Clyde never had a migraine game or refused to go on the floor when the play wasn't called for him.
It always makes me shake my head when people say "Lebron (kobe, wade...whoever) need a Scottie Pippen"...as if Scottie was a type of player that there are hundreds of...lol. Yeah the greatest perimeter defensive player of all time while putting up 20+pts, 7-8rpg, 5-6apg and running the offense as your pg at 6'7"...there are so many of those type of players out there...Scottie was one of a kind. He is one of the 30 greatest players to ever play this game.
Awesome call man. Whilst MJ helped to elevate Scottie's game and vice versa, playing alongside the greatest of all time never saw Scottie get the accolades he truly deserved. The guy could do everything on the basketball court and he would have had much more scope to do a lot more too had he not have played with MJ.
@smoke117 Completely true! Best perimeter defender of all time and best all-round defender of all time. When some one got hot against the Bulls, it was Pippen who took the defensive duties, no matter what position they played. If the Bulls ever had to face a LeBron team, Scottie would have him in his back pocket and allow Jordan to run riot. For me he's better than LeBron.
never dude pipp is more clutch and will forever be the greatest...he played in the most physical eran in the history of basketball...lebron is jst the product of all the guys in the league are now gettin old and these young dudes cant play for nuthin...
The dunk on Ewing at the very end was in my opinion the best dunk ever! After he banged on Pat he walked over and told Spike Lee to have a seat! Pippen introduced the NBA to the word SWAGGER that night!
awesome mix. pip would go up and damn near hit the rim with his head. defensive and offensive threat, did everything your team needed and themsome. wont be another like Jordan, but definatly never will be another like Pippen
This video isn't accurate it's a highlight film. Scottie didn't dunk all the time. He could do pretty much everything on the court. He was a facilitator, a world class defender, and a great scorer. Three major things that Moon is not. They may dunk similar, hell they even look alike a little bit. But they dont play the same.
oh aight then whatever..jamario's a late bloomer...if he passed his sat's in hs he wouldve gotten into a better college rather than a city college. wouldve been better..what a waste.
yeah... that would be crazy... mo williams and delonte west just dont know how to work with lebron so well... some post prescence like boozer or bosh would be a help but if those contracts are too big than a david lee type eof player would fit
alot of people sleep on scottie... look up his resume people... voted one of the top 50 players in nba history in 1997. dont tell me hes not a hall of famer
My only criticism of Pippen is that he should've scored a lot more. He averaged 16.1 ppg for his career when he was obviously capable of averaging 25-30ppg. Even when he really needed to step up during game 5 of the '97 Finals, when Jordan had the flu, he was very passive. He had a great all-around game if you look at the box score (17/10/5) but he should've stepped up. Jordan had to come up with a big performance with 38 for the Bulls to win.
conference finals. scottie made those late 90's/early 2000's blazers teams go (1 quarter away from the 2000 nba finals). "he should have stepped it up"? please. mike wouldnt have won 6 rings if scottie wasnt there... especially the first 3 (the last 3 he had help from rodman and kukoc). scottie is a first ballot hall of famer and top 10 greatest small forwards ever
scottie did so much other than score. look at his stats from top to bottom. his last few years in portland (and when he came back to chicago) dragged down his scoring because he became much more of a distributor more than anything. when jordan scored 38 in game 5 of the '97 final, that was his moment. scottie had mikes back plenty of times, dont just bring up one time. when mike left for those 2 years the bulls were still a good team and a hubert davis shot away from going to the eastern
I know what Pippen did and that Jordan wouldn't have won without him but he should've scored more. Scottie's a great player but he could've been a lot better offensively than what he showed. To me, game 5 pretty much summarized his career. He had great all-around talent but never wanted to shine too much. Even when he went to the Blazers, which should've been his team, he took a backseat to Rasheed Wallace.
if your'e gonna let 1 game define a players career then there isnt much else I can say. scottie thing was to play D, rebound, get out on the break, and set up the offense (especially in portland). ya he could have probably scored a little more, but im not gonna argue about how a future 1st ballot hall of famer could have played better. thats like me telling you well I think bill russell was a good player, but he should have scored more.
what's up with the playstation 1 sound at the start of the video xD?

you've got to be kidding....
Paniro123 2 years ago
no im not kidding. look at the way they play..im not talking about accomplishments.
sharpiexskillz16 2 years ago
This video isn't accurate it's a highlight film. Scottie didn't dunk all the time. He could do pretty much everything on the court. He was a facilitator, a world class defender, and a great scorer. Three major things that Moon is not. They may dunk similar, hell they even look alike a little bit. But they dont play the same.
Paniro123 2 years ago
oh aight then whatever..jamario's a late bloomer...if he passed his sat's in hs he wouldve gotten into a better college rather than a city college. wouldve been better..what a waste.

Totally agree with you

Lebron needs Derrick Rose. That would be a perfect compliment
MarcusKiner 2 years ago
yeah... that would be crazy... mo williams and delonte west just dont know how to work with lebron so well... some post prescence like boozer or bosh would be a help but if those contracts are too big than a david lee type eof player would fit

alot of people sleep on scottie... look up his resume people... voted one of the top 50 players in nba history in 1997. dont tell me hes not a hall of famer
kingbee10 2 years ago

"he should have stepped it up"? please. mike wouldnt have won 6 rings if scottie wasnt there... especially the first 3 (the last 3 he had help from rodman and kukoc). scottie is a first ballot hall of famer and top 10 greatest small forwards ever
kingbee10 2 years ago 2
scottie did so much other than score. look at his stats from top to bottom. his last few years in portland (and when he came back to chicago) dragged down his scoring because he became much more of a distributor more than anything. when jordan scored 38 in game 5 of the '97 final, that was his moment. scottie had mikes back plenty of times, dont just bring up one time. when mike left for those 2 years the bulls were still a good team and a hubert davis shot away from going to the eastern
kingbee10 2 years ago
I know what Pippen did and that Jordan wouldn't have won without him but he should've scored more. Scottie's a great player but he could've been a lot better offensively than what he showed. To me, game 5 pretty much summarized his career. He had great all-around talent but never wanted to shine too much. Even when he went to the Blazers, which should've been his team, he took a backseat to Rasheed Wallace.

if your'e gonna let 1 game define a players career then there isnt much else I can say. scottie thing was to play D, rebound, get out on the break, and set up the offense (especially in portland). ya he could have probably scored a little more, but im not gonna argue about how a future 1st ballot hall of famer could have played better. thats like me telling you well I think bill russell was a good player, but he should have scored more.
kingbee10 2 years ago
Scottie was a phenomenal player, I was just saying that game 5 pretty much summed up who Scottie was as a player.
