Dallapiccola and Materassi played regularly as a duo for over 30 years - from 1930 into the 60's. Both of them had an aristocratic feel that you just can't duplicate. Today's pianists are trained to show off, to emote excessively, to play to the audience. Musicians like Dallapiccola demonstrate that you don't need to do that.
