I started reading the book ''under the sign of the scorpion" by juri lina and it lays down important historical events in a complete different fashion than whats been the broadly kowns facts about it un the West. It = mind blowing stuff i recommend it to anyone who is interested in the history of humankind. The books is full of grammatical errors (like my post ) but english is not his motherlanguage nor is it mine.
I'm in the process of reading that book too. I know for a certainty that Russians are aware of whatand who was behind the so called "Russian Revolution"!

@Togglebog96 Tito was not a great guy - he was not as cowardly or worthless as Stalin, no, but he can be placed in a similar category to people like Castro. He was still hostile to the idea of real worker's democracy, the thing that Trotsky fought for and was murdered for. I don't think Tito would have considered himself a Trotskyist, and Trotsky would not have supported Tito. Tito still represented a privileged layer, and defended that privileged layer against the mass of the people.

Those doubts evaporated as soon as I saw a MAP of the place. No sane person, whether Bolshevik, anarchist, or any other political ideology, would have refrained from the attack on Kronstadt, at that time of the year, in that military situation. If they had stalled at all, they faced the reopening of the front. Good on them.

He was sometimes very brutal, like during the crushing of the Kronstadt rebellion, but definitely he was the real great hero of the Russian Civil War during the 1919-1923 period.
Under Trotsky's leadership, the Soviet Union would've been a real democratic socialist paradise, instead of a stalinist socialist dictatorship, which it was even after Stalin's death in 1953, and it was stalinism which in the end contributed to the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Trotsy was a mass murderer. The only difference between him and Stalin is that Trotsky was not in the saddle in the end. The ideological difference is cosmetic and overplayed. Simon Sebag-Montifiore wrote that Trotsky was wrong about Stalin.He wasn't a mediocrity,'He was extraordinary in every way'. Stalin also hated Trotsky on sight. You gotta love this guy,go Stalin!He also wrote that before meetings commenced there was a large amount of locker room style banter ,from which the uptight Trotsky abstained.Another reason to dislike this weasally jew.
Lenin wanted trade unions and Soviets to remain independent.Trotsky was opposed to this and forced the Soviets to be State controlled.A democracy was stangled at birth and this totalitarian environment set the stage for the mass executions and repression that followed. It culminated in the Kronstadt massacre,on Trotskys orders which is when all hope was lost and the Soviet Union became a distopian hellhole,seven years before Stalin came to power! Try reading Emma Goldman.
@Steelie1963 Dream on. the sailors in Kronstadt in 1921 were new recruits not the same ones as 1917, fooled by anarchists and foreign agents, their leaders who fled ended up advocating a foreign intervention to restore monarchy, it's a sad event but the decision to fight it was the right one, and it was a collective decision with Lenin and Zinoviev.
@Longlivethe4th Beside, in 1920 Trotsky had advocated a limited kind of NEP to answer immediate economic problems. The others refused so he had to enforce war-communism, whose brutallity was a reason for Kronstadt rebellion.
These were tough times and nobody's perfect. However, there is a clear difference between a world revolutionnary course (lenin and Trotsky) and a conciliatory (socialism in one country...) one which signed Popular front pacts with any force barely "progressive".

If some turbulent youth (some immigrants some not) cause troubles that's mostly because the system has no real place for them and because they adopt the twisted image of themselves that TV spreads. Trotsky was warning the world in detail what trash Hitler was while Stalin was making idiotic pacts with Nazi Germany. I started reading the book ''under the sign of the scorpion" by juri lina and it lays down important historical events in a complete different fashion than whats been the broadly kowns facts about it un the West. It = mind blowing stuff i recommend it to anyone who is interested in the history of humankind. The books is full of grammatical errors (like my post ) but english is not his motherlanguage nor is it mine.

@Togglebog96 Tito was not a great guy - he was not as cowardly or worthless as Stalin, no, but he can be placed in a similar category to people like Castro. He was still hostile to the idea of real worker's democracy, the thing that Trotsky fought for and was murdered for. I don't think Tito would have considered himself a Trotskyist, and Trotsky would not have supported Tito. Tito still represented a privileged layer, and defended that privileged layer against the mass of the people.

@oljackson99 What's your take on the Kronstadt rebellion?Instead of engaging the sailors in talks Lenin and Trotsky organized a massacre.After assembling red army divisions,on 5th March 1921 Trotsky made his 'Shoot them like Partridges!' speech.Blocking units were set up to mow down reluctant soldiers and thousands were killed in repeated assaults.After the fortress was overrun 500 sailors were shot on the spot.Over 2000 sailors were later executed.ALL POWER TO THE SOVIETS!Down with Bolshevism!

@Steelie1963 They were absolutely right to attack Kronstadt. It doesn't matter what their political ideology was. I used to have doubts about the action against Kronstadt. Those doubts evaporated as soon as I saw a MAP of the place. No sane person, whether Bolshevik, anarchist, or any other political ideology, would have refrained from the attack on Kronstadt, at that time of the year, in that military situation. If they had stalled at all, they faced the reopening of the front. Good on them.

@Hardwyck The best biography I ever read was 'Young Stalin' by Simon Sebag-Montefiore.Stalin was a dedicated Leninist from 1902.I admire his 'expropriations' and how he shagged his way around Russia,leaving a trail of broken hearts and illegitimate babies.I couldn't imagine Trotsky as a bank robbing serial seducer!Stalin was a genuine outlaw, and it was fitting that he became leader as the Bolsheviks had no mandate.The SR's won the election and should have formed a government.

Trotsky, a great hero.
He was sometimes very brutal, like during the crushing of the Kronstadt rebellion, but definitely he was the real great hero of the Russian Civil War during the 1919-1923 period.
Under Trotsky's leadership, the Soviet Union would've been a real democratic socialist paradise, instead of a stalinist socialist dictatorship, which it was even after Stalin's death in 1953, and it was stalinism which in the end contributed to the collapse of the Soviet Union.

The Anglos still make up the majority of Brits, as I already mentioned, European culture is very adept at breeding among themselves. Trotsy was a mass murderer. The only difference between him and Stalin is that Trotsky was not in the saddle in the end. The ideological difference is cosmetic and overplayed. Stalin and Trotsky were interchangeable evil bastards - even Trotsky was possibly the bigger warmonger. It's shame they didn't icepick each other to death at the same time so the left wouldn't turn the loser into a saint (as they tend to do so they can reinvent history).

The dead ones become "martyrs", & the living ones that exercise power become scapegoats for an explanation that they werent "true communists" like the dead ones would have been. Communism is going to keep popping up over & over again, repeating the same mistakes. Unless the left choose to learn that its a ridiculous theory which can never work. He merely wrote a book saying that wealth, family & class differences are the root of all evil, so lets use the state to abolish them. Trotsky had a lot of blood on his hands himself; he was especially brutal to his own soldiers as head of the Red Army, and exiled to the coldest part of Russia the very same soldiers that fought for the Revolution, when they rebelled against the oppression and racism of the Marxists.
That being said, the coward that killed Trotsky was rewarded by Stalin with the "Hero of the People" medal; Stalin then went on to kill 30 million of his own citizens for their land. Pretty blood history....

Lenin wanted trade unions and Soviets to remain independent.Trotsky was opposed to this and forced the Soviets to be State controlled.A democracy was stangled at birth and this totalitarian environment set the stage for the mass executions and repression that followed. It culminated in the Kronstadt massacre,on Trotskys orders which is when all hope was lost and the Soviet Union became a distopian hellhole,seven years before Stalin came to power! Try reading Emma Goldman.

@Steelie1963 Dream on. the sailors in Kronstadt in 1921 were new recruits not the same ones as 1917, fooled by anarchists and foreign agents, their leaders who fled ended up advocating a foreign intervention to restore monarchy, it's a sad event but the decision to fight it was the right one, and it was a collective decision with Lenin and Zinoviev.

@Longlivethe4th Beside, in 1920 Trotsky had advocated a limited kind of NEP to answer immediate economic problems. The others refused so he had to enforce war-communism, whose brutallity was a reason for Kronstadt rebellion.
These were tough times and nobody's perfect. However, there is a clear difference between a world revolutionnary course (lenin and Trotsky) and a conciliatory (socialism in one country...) one which signed Popular front pacts with any force barely "progressive".

If some turbulent youth (some immigrants some not) cause troubles that's mostly because the system has no real place for them and because they adopt the twisted image of themselves that TV spreads. It's not too late to unite all sections of the working class against the establishment. The refineries strikes could have brought down the governement.
