  • I have a question on this kind of thing. My friend is an English Civil War Reenactor, and from what he tells me, though battles follow historical direction, the actual hand to hand battles themselves are free form. I was wondering how it goes? Are there rules? Or is it just a case of donning plate and mail and pummeling the enemy until the prompt is given to retreat or be destroyed? I can see that its real steel, but surely its controlled in some way, as even a blunted blade will shatter ribs.

  • @clarkycat79

Thanks for your support, but why has the comment gone?

  • not a very good fight, they need to act like they are fighting for their lives ;P

  • I know it seems a bit anorakish, but you know the liveries (colours) of the households, and as you know which houses were Yorkist or Lancastrian, you know who is friend or foe. It is confusing sometimes when a household changes sides halfway through a battle, but historically it was no unknown.

  • Seems a bit helter-skelter. How could you tell who is whom on the battlefield?

  • you know most mops aint really interested in battle plans, maybe a bit more info on armour and weapons etc from who ever does the commentating

  • yay great vid!

  • haha, women with halberds!

  • 0.03....Go Oxfords!!!!

  • that's a pretty sweet reenactment

  • That's what the word "Reenactment" means Retard.

  • Nobody was killed? There were over 2000 Lancastrian casualties!

  • i hate comentators.. blah blah and b lah

  • i was in this battle and it really pisses me of wen people say tht we use wooden or foam weapons!!!!!!!!! we use steel weapons, and 2 answer other peoples questions the longbow men use proper arrows tipped with hard rubber ends, and i wud like 2 say thank u 2 the guy who posted this for all his commitment and support many thanks!!!!!!!

  • Wow, this would be fun. I love all things medieval too

  • i would love to take part in this i like all things medieval.

  • Which battle? Battle of Towton?

  • No, Blore Heath, 1459 - first battle proper of the wars. Towton wasn't until 1461. Maybe I should put these facts in when I post videos, sorry.

    M

  • so wut do longbowmen reenactors for arrows?

  • they use blunt arrows

  • o ok! thatwould hurt, nothing like gettinf hit in head with basically a rock!

  • no you were close but the arrows i think has no head or tip or what ever you want to call it.

  • what do they use a as swords as well? wooden?

  • wooden wasters and sometimes foam padded ones.

  • @ninjahypersloth u really dnt know anythin bout medieval reenactments, i fight in these battles and just so u know we us steel swords!!!!! not foam or wooden ones as u seem 2 think!!!!!!!!!

  • @ninjahypersloth No,real metal, steel, exactly like the real thing but blunted.

  • @gamepro362 No,not wood, steel. Just like the real thing except blunted.

  • they use rubber topped arrows i think, like the rubber thingies u get on chairlegs

  • I'd imagine some sort of foam or rubber ball or cap, a plain blunt arrow would hurt like high hell and could slip through helmet visors and pierce eyes.

  • we use rubber blunts on our arrows, there is no eye danger because we only allow direct shots at what we call heavies, which are guys with mesh on their ocularums (sp?), and the maximum poundage we use is 35 pounds draw. Means that you feel the hit, but it is not painful.

  • @2ndpadrummer we use real lenghth arrows tipped with hard rubber ends tht hurt like hell lol

  • @1988triggs dang its like a paintball gun hahahaha

  • @1988triggs I agree, they do hurt like crazy!

  • @2ndpadrummer We use real arrows with metal tips if we are doing target shooting, but if we are shooting in battle situations like this we use very similar arrows with rubber tips, a lot like the rubber things you stick on the end of walking poles if you know those. The materials and style of our arrows are (almost always) accurate, but the arrows back then would have been MUCH bigger because their bows were so much more powerful back then.

  • @2ndpadrummer Ah, I see your question has already been answered. Well, I hope I was interesting in my futile attempt to be educational.

  • They should atleast move in normal formation, not like band of hooligans, anyways looks fun:) i'll give 5

  • @AhsNine

the formation these guys are using is english civil war pike formation/drill c1600's, not a lot of records of 15th century exsist but we are reserching it. it wouldn't have been that much different, as the pike is a later development of the 'bill' *(using the universal word) there was the odd type of formation - boarsnout or wedge and chiltron, which is like a semi circle but they wouldn't have been that diciplined.

  • this is funny, reminds me of monty python, ninjas and samurais are better tho

  • That's probably why they wouldn't let chumps like you take part

  • as for reenactments this is a pretty good one however battles reenacted larger than like 5 people are impossible to do realisticly as for you stabbing everyone i think its harder than you make it out to be

  • dude, narrorator guy! shut up!!

  • Shut up damn anouncer!

  • I FOUGHT THERE!!!!

  • um how old do you have to be to fight cause im 13and im geting my armor in like 2 months

  • ahh mate uve got a long wait, u have tobe 18 or over to fight in the melee

  • I'm the real Blore, in case anyone was wondering.

  • you know i fought in a battle reebactment before there fun :)

  • wow....this re-enactmemt is boring as hell.

  • THOSE GOTHIC ARMORS ROCKS!!!

  • yes it does i have a video of a drawing of a gothic knifht i made it by paint i also have a drawings of other usless stuff

  • I would buy a full suit if I had money

  • Wow,I didn't know at that time they actually aloud fat guy to join the army XD I always want to this kind of thing but sadly I live in asia and they didn't do this kind of thing :(

  • both fed and l&m

  • I remember the very first event we did down there as I made all the flags. Pity about the telegraph poles and the women swanning around in medieval civvies without a care in the midst of a supposed battle.

  • We do try to be authentic looking, but I guess the GPO would be a little peeved if we axed the poles

  • Who's "we" please? The Fed or L&M? Altering or editing the shot/camera angle would get rid of the poles I suppose. Excellent commentary, back in the day we struggled to find anyone to do it.

  • ???????????????

  • why don't you all grow up and play nicely

  • anyway we use blunt weapons

  • well everyone cant die in the first 5 mins other wise there wouldnt be a battle cos everyone ud be on the floor

  • Kairra1 ur just a twat who now nothing cos i was there in 2007 and 2006 and thxs plantypops

  • Exactly. If a re-enactment's worth doing, it's worth doing properly. I'm glad you can see it from my point of view.

  • Lol there's always a retard who says things like this. You're the kind of guy who stands at the ropes yelling that he could do better, laughing with his mates - then when we offer to let you wear armour and have a go, you fall over and blame the 'wet ground'. Go home noob, you know nothing.

  • No, I'm the kind of guy that has a SENSE OF HUMOUR, but obviously you can't even grasp the concept. Is your nickname 'smiler' or 'joker', because you're a laugh a minute aren't you?

  • it was a brilliant fight cos i was one of the yorkist archers

  • i had a photo took with the lancastrians.
