  • Also, check out Deeds by James Blake. This really illuminates that track

  • Can anyone explain the story of the video? I really want to know

  • James Blake's talents are mesmerising.. If any song makes me want to learn to play the piano more than this I want to hear it. I was on the verge of tears by the end

  • goosebumps. I think I love it a millions times more with every single listen. so so gorgeous and touching.

  • @952dc

No musician other than pop artists writes songs for awards, like you said, art not product. :P

  • does anyone know where can i find the piano score?

  • thumbs up if the first time hearing this song was on parenthood :)

  • a lovely video and a lovely cover.

  • This song gets the people going!!!

  • @eyekandii2 hahaha lol

  • This man has a beautiful voice.

  • ohhh, beautiful

  • 71 people are confused

  • James Blake cannot be human. this is beyond perfect. I might go gay for him ..maybe.

  • Ossom

  • First time actually listening to him and I LOVE THIS SONG.

  • Goosebumps.

  • this deserves a lot more views.

  • That was sensual. What a beautiful woman... and song!

  • First...thank you parenthood. Second, after research, sounds like two different songs..and while I love the original, this one not only sounds completely different, it touches my soul in a way joni's version never could...I'm thoroughly confused as to why Chris Brown is a grammy winner, and Blake wasn't even considered...

  • @952dc I think it's because of the fact that Blake is art, while Chris Brown is just a product

  • @OmarElabed That's true.

  • @952dc He was nominated as Best Male Solo for the Brit awards if that matters. :)

  • @robearishere That does matter. Thanks for mentioning it. I hope there are many more nominations to come.

  • 1:01 is in "why don't you call me?"

  • @collinswayze Mhm, he sampled his own song... what a genius

  • I scoffed when I heard he'd covered this song. And even though I still think Joni's version is more beautiful, I do like this a lot. Wish Joni had done a piano version like this.

Great video. As Adam Buxton said, she really acts her tits off. Ha.

  • his voice... I'm speechless

  • idc who originally composed or sang this song..... James Blake re-invents it and completely OWNS it ;)

  • so artistic...so beautiful ;)

  • take a look at my cover if you have the time x

  • "I am as constant as a northern star" And I said" how he sings is, that is pure magic

  • i always think about someone if i hear this song <3

  • Love this song!

  • Wow I did not enjoy this the first time I heard it, but having james on my ipod I'm in love its beautiful, all his music.

  • I got addicted~!!!! <3

  • 464,803 views, it think about 450,000 are me

  • Could someone please explain the music video?

  • can he just stop whimpering other people's songs for once

  • My favorite joni mitchell song! such a beautiful cover

  • This is one of my favorite songs by James Blake.

Saw him live last summer, this guy is so extremely talented

  • 歌詞恐ろしくめんどくさいけど。 恐ろしく素晴らしい声帯ですね。

(Posted by Youtube Stream for iPhone (yst.me) on behalf of oOlToTlOo at twitter)

  • I listened to James Blake so much over the last 12 months that I didn't have much time to listen to anybody else.

  • I didnt get or like the video the first time watching it. The more ive watched it over it seems to make sense and be more personal.

I think anyone that has been in a serious relationship before will understand this

  • @Gnomeiet or anyone who has simply been in love

  • This is the most beautiful song, I think Jame Blake should do more songs like this

  • i like the part from 0:00 til 2:55

  • I like this version, but I do prefer Joni Mitchell's, simply because of the guitar. :)

  • On my sixth replay of this song, and crying. This is mental.

  • She sort of reminds me of a brunette Joni Mitchell, not sure if that's what he was opting for?

  • The kind of voice you could fall asleep to. So nice

  • Finally, after her last lapse, she's more composed and it would seem that she's accepted her lover's lack of constancy.

I couldn't be more happy that she physically turns off the light herself.

  • @theycallmelonnie blue peter badge being sent to you in the next few days! congrats

  • After a brief intermission of joviality and play, she's, again, enshrouded in darkness; however, this time, her expression is drastically different. Everything, from her posture to her dress, is more defiant or defensive. Since last time, her shock has dissipated, and she appears to have strengthened or hardened her defenses. In other words, she won't be made a victim.

Despite this, she, once again, experiences another significant lapse, where she's seen sweating, smoking, and suffering.

  • Anyways, moving onto the next scene, she's in the bathroom - illuminated by her, self-ignited, candlelight.

By the way, did anyone notice how the bathroom mirror turned completely black as she passed it? I found that interesting, but I can't explain it.

To get back to the point, she's in the bathroom, and just as she finishes her makeup the circumference of the mirror alights - emphasizing her face. She reacts angrily toward this illumination and I'm not sure why.

  • Throughout the progression of the video, she's "toyed" with by the light.

In the beginning, it softly stirs her from sleep. Soon after, it changes to red light, which could, I believe, convey her lover's titillation.

Later in the evening, she's confronted by a yellow light, which I've failed to connect to any particular emotion. Following the yellow light, darkness enshrouds the girl signifying, as I take it, the absence of her lover. In his absence, she seems utterly disoriented and upset.

  • I've listened to both the original and Blake's version countless times, and they're equally as beautiful.

    I'm addicted.

And this video, I can't begin to explain how well, I believe, it was directed and shot.

Overall, I believe I understand how the video coincides with the lyrics. However, I'm trying to understand the interaction between the girl in the video and the dynamic light activity.

It's like, she's interacting with her significant other who is, in the video, various, fleeting lights.

  • He's so perfect and unf.

  • The Prestige

  • aaaah. whatever.

  • Where have you been my whole life??? His voice is so lovely.

  • This is an incredible video. Wow.

  • A beautiful nod to Joni xxxx

  • EVERYDAY!!! You'd think I get fed up but it's better every time!!

  • anyone know who da actress is? i know ive seen her in something but cant think what!!!

  • @musicmeistro She's the girl from Vicky Cristina Barcelona and The town. Her name is Rebecca Hall. Actually her name is in the description

  • 1:01 is one of the cuts from "why dont you call me"!!

  • 1:14 at a glance i thought she was sat in the bath shaving her arms

  • Really want a little James Blake to sing me to sleep every night! Love this.

  • AAAHHH THE RED LINE MOVES TOO FAST

  • Just amazing....

  • His voice kind of sounds like Antony Hegarty's.

  • @ashleyray323 you're right he does a little less vibrato but very close he also sounds like sbtrk

  • I absolutely love how the invasiveness of this video emulates the invasiveness of the song. :)

  • Because I could drink a case of you Daniel Bruce xXx

  • Nádherná píseň plná citů které se odráží v duši ženy, která je v každé z nás.Děkuji James -Andrejka

  • This is immaculate.

  • I still prefer good ole Joni---- and a lot of hippies escaped to canada back then..... "love is touching souls.....you're in my blood.. you're in my holy wine...." missing you

  • he's like a less mainstream, kinda better version of Ed Sheeran :)

  • the text sucks but the singing... so beautiful and pure

  • belle chanson portée par une voix très spéciale.

  • I cry out of happiness every time I hear this song...it's just so beautiful

  • I am utterly memorised by this......replay replay replay is all I seem to do! It's got a realness and sincerity to it that makes chart music seem just insignificant. Beautiful

  • just one word: beautiful...

  • makes me cry every time!!! beautiful!

  • This is amazing, he made this his own song. I've only got one problem.... it's only 2:55 long so i have to keep pressing replay!!!!!!

  • @iamafilthygamer I also wish it was longer :( since I heard it for the first time I just can´t stop pressing the replay button!!!!! so weird

  • @iamafilthygamer I agree ....I keep playing it too xxx

  • @iamafilthygamer Me too - just love it- played over 20 times when I found it on Crimbo day and a dozen times since - my neighbours must be peeeeeee'd

  • @iamafilthygamer You do know that this is a song by Joni Mitchell? there for it isn´t his song ;)

  • i know this is going to sound pretentious and hipster-like but i still feel like nothing, NOTHING can compare to joni's original...she sings it with the rawest and most honest emotion, its amazing, and whoever likes this needs to listen to the original

  • @musicislove25 I'm pretty sure it has to do with the persons musical preference. I didn't even get through the original...When I heard this I couldn't stop listening. Respect for the original but this one just appeals to me 100x.

  • @musicislove25 I agree totally, but he makes it his own.

  • This song is a drug, and I got hopelessly addicted...

  • Love this song xx by the way I'm a lonley painter and I live in. A box of paint lol !!!!

  • @yazzy123schoolcool i hope you're being sarcastic

  • sad song for sleep ://///

  • If anyone wants to define beauty, "A Case of You" by James Blake is just that. This is PURE!!

  • I don't know a composition of video and music, that shows the meaning of love in such a great way.

  • Listened to nothing else but this song today, it's just too beautiful

  • i want a whole album of coverversions! one of the greatest EVER

  • I remember that time you told me you said "Love is touching souls". Surely you touched mine... 'Cause part of you pours out of me in these lines from time to time...

These lines really get me. Well done Joni writing them, and amazing performance James.

  • such a beautiful piece of music....

  • Got a bit lost in that song to be honest - mezmorising <3

  • Fell in Love with Joni Mitchell due to James Blake. amaze.

  • What is this song about...

  • damn

  • this song is beautiful

  • It makes no sense at all?

  • This makes me cry. Love JB

  • 51 dislikes WTF?

  • =]!

  • Joni is a singer songwriter very sentimental.. her music and lyrics are the mirror of her soul, of her genuine love, and that's why she composes such a beautiful songs, like the original "case of you". but James turned beauty to wonderful. and that's more than difficult.. it's incredible.

  • i actually prefer this to the original. man is a genius.

  • I like JB but this is gash

  • Just downloaded his album, then my Itunes doesn't work... RAGEEE guess I'll have to just have to stick with his youtube videos

  • Goddamn, what planets or stars were in line when Jame's dad's sperm met his mom's egg to make such an incredibly amazing and gifted human being?

I know this is a cover, but still--this is all his own.

  • Honestly, fuck this shit. After listening to Joni this is heresy.

  • @theseampsgoto11 haters gonna hate.

  • This some good shit yall

  • such an amazing tennis player...

  • so glad he did a video for this

  • Thanks Parenthood.

  • such an amazing cover!

  • people are discontinuous beings and they are doomed to long for continuity, as long as they are alive. James Blake makes music that feels continuous, as if even the notion of yourself dissapears, as if all boundaries dissolve... it's truly magical. Addictive too; I've had this song on repeat for the last three days :D

  • @unemondeimaginaire - a reallllllllly mellllllllllty voice

  • SUCH a fantastic version of this song. It's a shame that, apart from 2.32, video turns it into a trite Richard Curtis-esque mini-movie. Disappointing.

  • He sings with waves of magnificent intensity, so hauntingly beautiful

  • Your voice is different It has something to say It`s like heaven`s sent In it`s own way You could sing the whole world And it makes it worth while For all these times the planet has turned Walking on this cold tile That is been put on the floor You make it warmer When the sun is behind clouds You make me feel calmer When ever there is time of doubts it came to my mind listening this song
  • This version, is my favourite song, ever. Incredible!

  • james blake is beyond amazing

  • Liked it from the first time, glad to see that blake is an allround talent!

  • GOD, this is music. SO FRESH.

  • That's some straight up bipolar shit that chick's got going on there.

  • Bloody 'ell that made me weep a little. Inspiring on a lot of levels this last 3 minutes was. Joni Mitchel planted the seed for people like James Blake....

  • This song is my favourite! It's AMAZIING!!

  • He's really incredible!

  • I couldn't imagine that it was possible to make such a silly video with such a powerful song.

  • @grandexandi This video is just as powerful as the song.

  • @grandexandi I like the video

  • Love.
