CFL is boring because they only have 3 downs. Which means a typical game will have more kicking because the offense only has two chances to get their first down. Basically just imagine the NFL with no third down conversions so every cool play that ever happened on a third down never happened. Thrilling huh?
I can't watch the NFL. I don't find anything exciting about it. Why would I care to cheer for Jacksonville against Oakland? I find a lot more fun in the rivalries right here at home.

First off, we should agree that our standards is not the same as others. Sports is a form of entertainment for the general public, so this is a way to "make society a better place." Secondly, perhaps they have aspirations of making into the NFL either for fame, for money or for self affirmation (who knows, not our place to judge). Lastly, from reading the earlier comments, the point of the GPA is to point out that these athletes are not as dumb or "mindless" as you have pointed out earlier.
Problem is, sports become more than just entertainment. People get obsessed with sports, forgetting it's just about having fun. I have never, EVER, met an athlete who practice sports because it's fun, or to make society a better place. They just like the money and fame, which sickens me. But hey, who am I to judge them?
And I hate saying this, but having good grades doesn't necessarily make you smart.
I think that is just your opinion. Not everything can be described in the academic sense where a person must evaluate his/her success based on his/her scholarly contributions to society. Furthermore, the reality is many of us will end up in jobs different from our formal education. So many of us will do the job, not because we want to, but because it pays the bills.
I guess you've got a point there. But still, I think there's too much money involved in sports. I don't consider it fair that some people can earn a crapload of money from running around on a field and tossing a ball, while other people are starving.
You are right...good grades do not mean intelligence, but it is a good indication of it since you have never met the individual athletes. Furthermore, this can be said of any person in any field of study, so why only generalize for athletes?
Football isn't just hits either. It takes a lot of strategy and planning. Nearly every detail is taken into consideration. Look at Peyton Manning, he can read defenses like a book!
It doesn't really matter how much strategy they put in it, it all boils down to a bunch of people banging their oversized bodies together. But if that's your cup of tea, go for it.

Most of my interest stems from wanting nothing more than BC to win year in and year out. Even the worst teams have alot of talent....Hamilton from the CFL and Miami from the NFL, both suck but both also try to compete.

Look, I'm a BC Lions fan through and through, since I was a kid. I'm also a Cowboys fan, since Dorsett was around. The CFL is a 95 year old league that constantly innovates. The 2 pt. convert - CFL. The CFL has more complex offensive formations and more dynamic defenses. The field is bigger and the game is built for speed. What you see in the CFL today you'll likely see in some form in the NFL some day. The NFL has the best players $ can buy, but if you want excitement, watch the CFL.

First off, we should agree that our standards is not the same as others. Sports is a form of entertainment for the general public, so this is a way to "make society a better place." Secondly, perhaps they have aspirations of making into the NFL either for fame, for money or for self affirmation (who knows, not our place to judge). Lastly, from reading the earlier comments, the point of the GPA is to point out that these athletes are not as dumb or "mindless" as you have pointed out earlier.

Problem is, sports become more than just entertainment. People get obsessed with sports, forgetting it's just about having fun. I have never, EVER, met an athlete who practice sports because it's fun, or to make society a better place. They just like the money and fame, which sickens me. But hey, who am I to judge them?
And I hate saying this, but having good grades doesn't necessarily make you smart.

I think that is just your opinion. Not everything can be described in the academic sense where a person must evaluate his/her success based on his/her scholarly contributions to society. Furthermore, the reality is many of us will end up in jobs different from our formal education. So many of us will do the job, not because we want to, but because it pays the bills.
