I use the same over-under cannon style, except my cannon has a 10 foot long barrel and air tank. It's not very portable, but it shoots dowels a heck of a long way. :)

what kind of valve are you using i have a air cannon with the same size barrel its just it takes one person to hold it and another to turn the ball valve.

@11Randomness I'm using a 2" ball valve, but only because I couldn't find a three inch.

Just drill 2 holes in the handle of the valve, one on each side, then bolt a length of 1/2" pvc to it, and bolt that to another length that will be convenient to reach. That way you can reduce your firing crew to one.

nice cannons. i literally just finished my 5th cannon, made of 2'' pvc. it has a 4 foot barrel and a 3 foot compression chamber with a ball valve. im using some small nerf footballs that dont perfectly fit. they are being launched at over 150 miles per hour at about 40 or 50 psi. and thats only a guess...my camera doesnt have enough frames per scond for me to be sure.

Even though yours is half the width, it does not have half the kick. A = pi(r)^2 therefore things shot out of your cannon have a surface area that the pressure can push on = pi(.75)^2 = 1.76". Mine = pi(1.5)^2 = 7.06. So, yours has a surface area of 1.76 square inches, versus mine of 7.06. We then have to factor in pressure. Yours would be 1.76(150) = 264. Mine is 7.06(100) = 706. These numbers are how many pounds of pressure are pushing upon the water. (cont.)

We need to subtract the ballistic's weight from the pressure upon it. Yours = 264 - 2 = 262. Mine = 706 - 2 = 704. We then subtract the weight of the cannon. Since you said yours was 15 pounds, it would = 262 - 15 = 247. Mine weighs about 45 pounds, so my pressure = 706 - 45 = 661. Therefore! When you fire yours, you get a kick of 247 pounds, whereas I get a kick of 661 pounds.

Oh, I see what you're talking about. The thing that springs back is 1/2" pvc pipe. Since the ball valve for the cannon is behind me, it would be awkward to turn it directly. Therefore, I have two pieces of pvc, running from the valve to my hand, so I can just shove the front piece of pipe backward, thereby opening the valve.
