its a common mistake for a guitar to grab the wrong guitar shit vai has done it and robbin crosby and whoever the fuck else hes only human and makes mistake i guess everybody is just all ooo and awww cause ed is god
93 Million Dollars was the take for that tour. Those who went, (and got a T-Shirt),
just paid for Ed's Divorce, and Dave's future retirement, and Wolfgang's great ,great, great ,great ,great ,Grand kids College... As John Cougar MenstralCramp says," Learn to Play Guitar."
I would put this under the category of "How the mighty have fallen".
I was a huge VH fan from Far Warning all through the Sammy stuff. But his tour was a money grab plain and simple. Eddie was just divorced, probably got soaked for half his money, and DLR was fading into obscurity. Cure? we'll go on a oldies but goodies tour and soak our loyal fan base for millions. What happened to Eddie saying there was no way they were going to tour without a new album?
Eddie uses several guitars which are tuned differently - some tuned down. Perhaps, Edward used the wrong guitar on this song. It looks like this was the last song, and Edward uses his vib bar constantly... no guitar can stay in tune with dive bombs on every song. Heck, I have seen Steve Vai play from one song to the next... with his guitar out of tune, and Vai has perfect pitch. What is absolutely insane is the fact that Edward did not hear it! Perhaps he was on something
@earldowningproject he uses floyds . . . it won't go out of tune, but he surely grabbed the wrong axe for that song, since it must be played in standard tuning for it to work with the keyboard. Probably happened cause all his wolfgangs look the same. One benefit in having crazy striped guitars, is that you know which one is tuned to what, lol.
Hmmm... dunno.... the Bass and the singing seemed to be with the Keyboard...
... Eddie musta been having trouble remembering the song... the solo was about right... just forgot the licks... It happens to best of them...which Eddie is one of...
The keyboards were out of tune not the guitar. They weren't actually being played during the show. It was playing back just slightly too fast ( the machine got set to 48k instead of 44.1)
Nah, the technician in charge of the Keyboard smaple and their playback sample rates made a mistake, and I'm guessing it was the last mistake he ever made for Van Halen!
I agree with vs1400. EVH is one of my biggest influences, but this was a total newbie move lol. He could of compensated for this by playing differently on the fretboard. I'm sure the tech was standing at the side with the correct guitar waiting for Eddie to come by and grab it moments after he noticed his fuck up.
yea, ok the keyboard was off...ed fired his guitar tech that same night and they haven't had that problem since. They're still putting on great shows. Van Halen does not suck and they have never sucked. now go back and listen to the beatles put eric clapton at guitar in "while my guitar gently weeps" because george harrison couldn't play fucking guitar...with all due respect...not to rag on the beatles or anything
um sorry but the keyboard was off...listen to jump on 1984 the album, then the live version on best of both worlds then this, and you'll see that this one was in between.
well...you have a point. These were the most expensive tickets I ever didn't pay for (mine were comps.) but if a band is going to charge so much - they ought to get it right on their biggest hit. What would have been cool is if Dave stopped the band after it was apparent something was wrong and they improved 'Hang Em High'. "Hate to disappoint y'all hereahhhh but we can't play Jump tonight...".
Personally, I don't give a crap about those two bands. But if I happened to be watching a vid of one of them, and I noticed someone being a jerk-o, or the uploader was one, I might chime in.
And what does your comment imply towards people who are passionate about music that came from the Renaissance and Classical periods of history; music which is 500 years old?
Good music is timeless. And it takes a lot to put together a performance like I witnessed in GSO. Its no surprise that sometimes things go wrong with the technology.
"And it takes a lot to put together a performance like I witnessed in GSO. Its no surprise that sometimes things go wrong with the technology."
Thats a valid point. I have a lot of respect for anybody who has the tenacity, talent, and drive to put together a show, especially one of this magnitude.
I also have the right to laugh when things go wrong. I derive a lot of pleasure from good music and good playing, as well as bad music and bad playing. I find them both equally enjoyable.
LOL - I have no problem with laughter. I am sure - when you are in front of 23,000 people and something like what happened in Jump that night goes wrong - the best thing to do is laugh at yourself. I remember walking to the parking lot, scratching my head and commenting at the time "what the heck happened during Jump?" I thought Ed had been handed a guitar that was out of tune since it was the encore and they were coming back onto the stage.
Yeah...second night of the tour in Greensboro and a roadie doesn't tweak the keyboard track just right for the encore...BFD. I was there. The band had just blistered for nearly 2 hours before that. Its why this video and your opinion don't matter. Its why Van Halen is selling out concert halls across the country.
Hmm...that's an awful lot of people paying big bucks for nostalgia...and they just announced 30 new dates, in some instances hitting the same markets they just played. Of course you are wrong. It has more to do with the fact that the music industry has failed to put out anything worth a crap in nearly 25 years.
"Hmm...that's an awful lot of people paying big bucks for nostalgia..."
And the Beatles haven't put out a new album in 30 years yet still remain on the bestseller list! I have to agree that a lot of terrible music has been released over the past 25 years, but you can't honestly believe that there has been nothing of value put out since the 70's.
I would say good rock and roll ended in the mid 80's sometime. There are bands that were around prior to that which have done their best work since(imo) but personally I can count on my fingers the number of bands that released their first album after, say, 1988 that do anything for me. Obviously, this is all just my opinion.

He could've compensated had the sample not been a halftone off.
Razzy123 3 years ago
Less than half a tone, a halftone would have been easy, one fret up/down. This was like a quarter of a tone.

how do you sing in the right key when the keyboards are playing something 2.3 half-steps out of sync. with the guitar and bass?

This sucks balls. All the rock and sports stations rag on it hilariously. I would demand my money back.
