federer probably better then sampras but at their best,it would still go 5 sets on any surface and very close BUT,sampras will be better for a longer time1990 - 2001.federer's peak prime best ability is already declining a bit 2003-2009.He is certainly not at his best anymore,doesnt mean he wont win a few more slams. But the nimble foot work guys usually pitter out fast when its time to reach the big 30.

The question in my mind is not whether Federer is the greatest player ever... but by how much distance he is the greatest... I think by the time he is done Roger will make sure that he is the greatest player ever... atleast by a mile than his closest rivals Rod Laver... Pete Sampras... and Bjorn Borg...I cannot help negating those poor people who question his greatness because they themselves know that they are wrong.. The point is HE IS THE BEST... like him or not...

@thielas what the hell are you talking about, Pete's backhand sucks and his baseline play wasn't shocking, but Roger has everthing, talent, technique, style, class, mentalyty, no one can be compared with him. beside he plays great in all surfaces

@andrecillopiyo here's the skinny.sampras played against MUCH better players.All federer had to face was guys like roddick,murray etc.nadal is ahead face to face and roger just got blown out a second slam in the quarters.federer has lost a step or 2 in his game,he's 29 and he's about number 2 or 3 now and his style depletes very fast as will rafa.sampras was the better long term player playing against better opponents.03 thru09 has to be the weakest division in tennis as a generation since laver

@andrecillopiyo Usually the nimble foot work players deplete faster then the others,edberg,rafter,etc.Once the nimbleness goes,so does the rest of the game.federer relys on these little nuances,not just the big forehand and when they all worked together he was virtually unbeatable but without the nuances,he can't rely on sheer power.Same with Rafa.Once rafas foot speed simmers down,he'll be toast!!

@andrecillopiyo sampras always maintained his ability to not get broken,until around 2001.but sampraas didn't really need to rely on big forehands and nimble foot work so he will have lasted longer then federer.Sampras basically made it 11 yrs at the top of tennis,1990 to 2001 but federer only has 03 to 09,thats only 6 years and he looks a little declined in the past year.again,once his foot work and speed goes,he's finished.can't just rely on one big forehand and a good serve.

Powerful shots can generally be seen from tennis players of today but artistic and sharp shots are only common for Roger. I always love watching his movements on court. He's come back. I can't wait for Wimbledon.

Roger has the most complete game of anyone, he is a pure tennis genius and there is no one who plays in your league. We have many power hitters, but your level of skill and game is a pleasure to watch. Im sure when your health improves you will be back to your old self.
