  • Wow! Talk about some beautiful views, and I love the sound of your motor! Meowoooowww!!!

  • That turbo whistle is erotic!!!

  • We run a Pete with a CAT 379 and 18 gears roaring down the road...sweet music!

  • Love the coments bout the motor but Been there done that as u have ( & in the snow ) everyone wants to drive a big truck but they have no clue till they get into mountain driving, thats what I thought till I took my first trip out west thru the bitter root mountains headed to Oregon in January then back thru Colorado to Texas then go back up to Detroit. Want to drive a big truck dont think its just like driving thru Kansas. ( it snows in Kansas too )

  • Sounds sweet...is that the road into Payson...If so I used to run that back in the in the late 70's early 80's in a '79 359 classic...with a 444 cummins running thru a 5x4...that was an fun run back then.

  • real nice trip in them canions

  • bonito video cordiales saludos desde México que chulas esas curvas en la montaña

  • AAHHHH Man Sure do Like Hearing those CATs Work, there isnt a better sound in the world!!!

  • It's me driving this pete....It's been a while since I've watched those videos! watching this makes me miss my pete so much :(

  • gotta love this truck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • he no longer uses this account he has another one

  • Great video.

Looks like a nice ride down there.

    -Brandon

  • great vid i run a pete never been there shiny up/rubber down respect

  • I have been here myself, and it truly is an amazing video capture of this incredible route! You did a great job man! I will subscribe, and hope to see some more of your vid captures on here! Be safe, and shiny side up!

  • I almost shit my pants the first time I drove through there.

You aint a real trucker till you drive through the rockies.

  • excelent sound!!!!

  • Salt River Canyon alot of truckers have lost their lives there...

  • man that cat motor is music to my ears

its sad that production of the 379s is over :(

  • Is it!? Whats the last year they're doing?

  • 2007 Was the last year for 379s. They were called Lagecy Edition.

  • You sure man? Freaking a man, i've seen like fifty billion of those here in L.A.. And they're all like 08-09

  • Yeah im pretty sure man. Those are the 389s you are seeing.

  • The last run of 379's was in 07 the 379 legacy series. Now the 389 replaced them :(

  • @raneet wut u mean the production of the 379s is over??

  • @weiserbud67 they are still produced they are just called 389s and they have a few upgrades

  • @raneet The sound has nothing to do with being a peterbilt.

  • @raneet they still make them its just a 389 now an emission's friendly 379

  • this is sad. i spend 6 weeks out west on the road and come home and spend hours watching videos of of people on the road out west.lol what the hell is wrong with me.

i've often wanted to make a video like this. it funny how running through the Rockies by yourself in a peterbilt can clear your mind. you can tell people about it but its hard to explain. great video!

  • Hey, you're sure haulin' some ass there buddy! And the cat motor music is a real treat. Thanks a bunch.

  • listen to that turbo screamin! lol sounds nice!

  • This is the Salt River Canyon in Arizona between Globe and Show Low. Some of the best scenery hardly anyone knows about.

  • Great Video, nice job filming that and driving.

  • beautiful scenery, excellent driving, wonderful sound. Keep on truckin'

  • i drive that rout about 2 times a week. From phoenix to almost anyhwere in new mexico. nice canyon. but there is some ugly curves on the route.

  • That's me driving, it's been a while since i was on youtube and i can't use my old user name(twintiprider) but anyhow, yes it's hwy60 in AZ, motor is a cat 475 stock with 13speed. man i almost had tears watching those videos, brings me memories, that was the last trip with that company as it closed after i got home. but i'm happy where i am now altough i drive a kw t-2000 automatic! i miss my 379 but to tell the truth i also love my automatic, guess times are changing!

  • Yuck, an automatic ! Well, whatever floats your boat man

  • I had a chance to try a b uddys 18spd auto and ill tell you its an 18 spd tranny with the clutch BUT NO STICK, and its no different from a reg 18 except your arm dont get so tired from shifting if you are running off road lol

  • ..So whats the clutch for?

  • Same as always. The 2 pedal trucks use something similar to a torque convertor.

  • Might be salt river canyon....

  • Jake brakes Baby! All three a rockin! thats what my 377 sounds like and i ve got the 400 cummins big cam

  • beautiful turbo saund

  • man, the sound of this makes the hair on my neck stand up... my father was a truck driver (RIP) and my whole family's legacy lives on with trucking. much respect to all truckers

  • scania \8/ rulezz

  • Great landscape..

    Thx for the ride..

  • Is this truck have a stock jake brake and a stock engine? what type of engine? 60 series or cummins

  • toyota power bitch

  • Fuckin right! LOL

  • Beautiful scenery, beautiful sound.

  • What route is this in AZ? I have a brother in Phoenix & I flew out there, but only drove as far east as Apache Junction off of US60 & Route 88.

  • oh and that was totaly not saving you any miles either...I know Az like the back of my hand and the way you went is not the way to go

  • i remember driving to pheonix this way

  • Is that US 60 through Globe?...Looks like it!...btw, great video: takes me back.

  • dam that sounds nice. what motor is in it?

  • dam that sounds good

  • daamm its that colorado? How long it`s that downhill? any idea how many miles?

  • man read the fucking ifo! its in arizona for gods sake!! jeez some people...

  • scanias are just a big ass piece of shit saab.

i mean big piece of shit. Peterbuilt and Kenworth forever.

  • u r in my neck of the woods.

  • scania R v8 620 hp rulez

  • i am getting so sick and tired of you scania lovers commenting on these videos this is a peterbilt not a scania and mack v8 and cat 3408v8s sound wayy better that the scanias

  • I'm a Paccar man, but I don't think the Scania engines are all that bad. Have run them in farm tractors before. A Big Cam Cummins has more torque, though.

  • looks like my friends 2005 379x

  • 475 Cat or 550????

  • I think the 475 cat is 3406E and the 550 is C15. But the 3406E Cat is pretty much the same as C15. just a little more horsepower and maybe some minor changes. nothing too much in changes though.

  • your pretty much right except MOST 3406E Cats do make 550hp if uprated and the C15hp range is 435hp which is the minimun and is what most big companies in the U.S set then to then theres 475-550 and some with 600-625

  • I have a C-15 Cat and it was originally set at 435 horsepower,I called the cat dealer and had it moved up to 475,although my engine says on the block I could upgrade it as far as 625 HP,but they said my tranny wouldn't handle it.I am no mechanic, but I don't understand why myself.

  • am a diesel mechanic ur tranny couldn't handle the rpm for it u got a stronger tranny then it would

  • Has nothing to do with RPMs. Just torque. If you have a 13spd, it is probably a RTLO16913. Rated @ 1650 ft/lbs. Need a trans that is rated for 1850 to go to 550hp, or you need one rated @ 2050 to go to 625.

The 435 also needs some other upgrades besides programming to go to 625. Bigger injectors and turbo at minimum.

  • rpm's have to do with tranny's and yeah it has to be able to deal with the torgue ur making but rpm's have to have to be able to get the tranny up 2 gear if not it would not go. in my years in tech school i did 4 overhauls with trannys and 3 of 4 just switching trannys out of trucks

  • The 435-625hp C15 engines are all governed (outside of speed limiters) to 2100 RPMs, so the RPMs don't mean jack in relation to the power ratings. We have a C12 that only goes to 1850RPMs. Shifts just fine. Just harder to skip-shift.

The torque and shock load is what can break a trans, outside of a crappy driver that can't shift worth a damn.

  • The 14.6L 3406E can go to 550hp. The 15.8L 3406E goes to 600.

14.6L C15 goes to 550 and the new 15.2 ACCERT goes to 625.

As long as you have a transmission rated to 1850 tq, you can uprate a 475 to 550. You had to go to the 18spd at the time, if you wanted 550 in a 3406E. Now you can get heavy 13spds like what I have (RTLO18913A), and have 1850tq, instead of 1650.

  • ah thanks for the info, my fathers 99 T800 has the 14L 3406E i think, i wanted my dad to put a 12513 speed in it, i liked the overdrive howl on those, ridden in many trucks that had that model, put they can only handle up to 1400 ft-lbs of torque, as this cat has 1750 ft-lbs.

  • Great video!!

  • damn bro you even managed to hold it steady aweseom job man, ive only driven through the appalachain mountains but those can even be callenging for trucks

  • Any brakes are for sissies. If you had any balls you would've put the hammer down. Haha Just playing with ya. I like how you played with the Jake. Nothing beats the sound of a CAT .

  • Driving for over 23 yrs. Maybe I'm lucky, but I've never had an engine brake fail me instantly. I've seen them fade over time (months) and I've had them not work after an overhead (mistake by technician) and a time or two I've had to pull up on the clutch pedal. But I've never had one just let loose and stop working. with 4500 pounds in the box you can probably run the grade at a decent pace without an engine brake and not be OVERLY concerned about fade.

  • They hardly work if a head cracks and it causes fuel to go into the oil. VERY nerve racking when that happens. Had that happen on a Cummins ISX last year. Was at 80k and on 8-10% grades. Glad I figured out they didn't work right before going down the steep stuff. Made it to the bottom safely, barely.

  • lol.....Dropping off the grade....everything is good and....OH $*@T. Been there done that. Except mine was brake failure.

  • Forgot to mention, I've had the master on/off switch fail on a few trucks. Usually had some warning with those, though.

  • I've had the master fail as well.(and a clutxh switch) but never without warning. All in all the chance of a jake shutting down without warning in a well maintained truck isn't much differant than the chanve of air brakes failing without warning. and if you throw brake fade in the mix, the jake is probably more reliable. Coning down a hill and relying on a jake is as safe, if not safer than any method availabe. (except maybe walking)

  • Yep. Sometimes the first warning isn't in a good place. But, so far, so good. :D

The truck with the fuel in the oil, the brake worked, but very poorly. Maybe at about 1/2 braking hp.

  • Man that gave me chills(the scenery the noise the big rig) that was sweet...??

  • were u taking up both the lanes half time i mean going around the turns and stuff

  • You think you can do better. You probably wouldn't make it past getting your CDL permit.

  • Obviously you haven't seen a big truck in the mountains on a winding road. Especially with a long trailer. I'm 70' long with a 53' trailer. Have no choice in the matter. You would either go over the side of a mountain or hit a rock wall if you didn't cross the center line. The guard rail won't stop a big truck.

  • peterbilts competitor is not kenworth. that is like saying gm is chevy's competitor. peterbilts competitor is frightliner though, along with all other companies like western star, international etc.

  • Kenworth and Freightliner

  • peterilt and kenworth are both owned by the same company, paccar

  • speakin' of peterbilt, who is peterbilt's competitor?

  • too bad u couldn't rig up a tripod of some kind on the dashboard w/o it sliding around

  • from the hood its a freight shaker? wtf you must not drive do ya dunce

  • Looks like the road up to Show Low through the Salt river canyon. That road is a bitch with a normal car with all the morons that drive it...let alone a truck. Good drivin!

  • I have been down that road it's one hell of a road to drive a truck with no jakes but i got em now

  • um, dude, should u b driving?

  • Ooops did not see the rivets. Its a Petey 15 or 13 speed with a 3406?

  • One of his earlier posts said C15, not 3406.

  • From the hood its a "Freight Shaker"

  • Nope 379 Pete w/ext. hood. Check out the grab handle/ornament on the nose of the hood.

  • Hahaha, why didn't you write that it is a BMer, lol

  • Nice handling. Amazing footage. 5 stars. Favrited.

  • what no ice or snow ...j/k obviousley not a loaded super-b eh

  • Jake brakes are the best invention

  • the jake brake at work ;) nice vid.. i am a truckdriver my self.. beautiful landscape

  • i just hope that u used you enginge brake xD!

  • That is what you hear hammering away on most of the video. ;) lol

  • Beautiful sound, isn't it? :D

  • either post your self doing better, or dont post at all.

  • You drive down with brake fade and we'll see how big your balls are.

  • I rode with my uncle and that happened it fuckin scary man

  • Read his other posts. Didn't have much weight in the wagon.

  • Wow....

  • please id like to know very much the name of the button in the gear shift knob waht s the name of that button all that i know it s a button that make the truck power.

  • the splitter?

  • The "whistle" through the dual breathers is music to my ears! Sounds like a C-15??

  • look like 160 west hwy in colorado..

  • I'm from Brasil... Do you know what part of U.S is it video????

  • just east of phoenix.

  • and this is a fine example of a driver working hard to bring his cargo safely down a mountain, and at 1:14 I hear a qualcomm beep.

Funny how they always send you a useless message right at the wrong time.

  • the engine souds great

  • That's like on Duel! You did a great job, I'd have gone straight over the side!

  • can you run with the jake on all the way down the mountain?

  • sure can...

  • great video yoe shut seen the a50 near bi the woeste hoeve a wonderful drive keep on trucking atjo from holland

  • I love this video and I love the sound of that engine, especially when that turbo winds ups. How in the heck did you keep the camera so steady while driving AND shifting?

  • by the way.. thnx 2 all who post truck videos here..really apprecicate the efforts.. im soooooooooooo addicted to this

  • thinks ppl should give the truckers/truckies a break for filmin and drivin... am sure they can handle it..they usually sitting it on the dash..if tubers cant handle it..close ur eyes g u r l s..hehe

  • Yeah i love the sound of a cat on the jake. Its even better in Australia pullin triple road trains at nearly 120 tonne now that real truck driving

  • Great video, you should see hwy 36, from red bluff, ca all the way to susanville ca. wonderful drive. good job with the camers!!

  • im from brazil and i want be a driver truck in america is good be a truck there and the gain is good too?

  • is this a 379 x and 2003?

  • I'm actually going for my CDL out in Maine and i must say the scenery in this video was awsome! Good job on it! Be Safe!

  • Nice vid....to bad it turned into a pissing contest. "Oh yeah, you should try it pulling this load or try it in my truck hauling that load." Know what, no one cares how someone else did it. Still a good vid.

  • I hope some of the people commenting aren't truckers, and if so,come on guys its commom sense. When you go down hills in a truck you use the Jake...its there for a reason. if the jake goes, yeah your truck is gonna take off, but not so fast that u can't hit brake pedal, or pull the trailer brakes. So hey everybody, next time we go down a steep hill, lets just use our service brakes...screw that idea.I'll stick to the jake thanks.

  • Just only the cool truck and driver with mountain and forest and blue sky, how romantic.

  • Been there done that, try it with a Mil spec rig hauling a helicopter

  • Salt river canyon. Awesome ride..

  • Nice run. I gotta get a camera and a dash mount for my truck. I just went through some scenery like that out in New Mexico running out to Silver Cloud Mine and back.

  • nice job thats the hardest thing i ever did as a trucker and i wasnt carrying a camera...awesome sounding jakes!

  • nice job man love the jakes brakes

  • good job. beautiful

  • you peeps are funny. alot of good comments made here but i still havent heard anyone bashing this guy for driving a semi thru a canyon and FILMING his ride. guess he's just a good ole multi tasking truck driver....lol Hammer Down peeps

  • Excellent use of that jake. Better off using that than having a run away truck without any brakes. God I love the sound of that turbo.

  • Easy now!

  • Here that Jake crackle off the mountainside! Nothin much can beat that sound. It almost sounds like a Detroit under the hood, the way the turbo spools up when you bark the Jakes. Cool vid.

  • Don't use your Jake down a hill? Someone make a vid of that same ride with no Jake and maybe we'll see the runaway lane get used.

  • Haha. Yeah.

  • thta gaurdrail comes at ya pretty quick.......alot quicker than most peoples reaction time...i wouldnt rely on a jake to hold me back with 45,000 in the box.....but they do sound great ......especially on some of these older trucks out here.............

we r bored in dallas need to get out of here damn it

  • When I drive with my dad, he wont let me use no jake brake, exhaust brake whatever unless it has a load and even then I shouldnt use it. Every driver should be able to know how to handle a load safely with a Jake. Theres more to it then just flippin the switch on.

  • no shit,I drive the salt river canyon ever day!!!!

  • Ntxic, Im just a youngster with my Class A permit but I can help explain.

A Jake Brake is technically an option, comes standard anyways. Its a luxury that really helps when your loaded heavy, holds you back and helps reduce the stress and wear on service brakes.

On a hill like that using the jake means less downshifting, easier on the brakes, less stress for the driver.

Awesome video dude. Hope I explained things right?

  • better not make no practices about downshifting on hills, steep grades and tryin to downshift and off you go.

  • that shit looks scary

  • that shit is scary

  • So if he shouldnt rely on the jake, he should ride the brakes the whole time right? Id rather the JB go out instead of my service brakes!!!

  • If any Profesional driver endured what I have exspierianced behind the wheel garaunteed everybodys outlook on the trucking industry would change to a perspective that has never been put forward but is long over due! have a good trip driver

  • I drive a Kenworth with a c-15 550hp cat in it. Mine sounds nice too coming off a mountain at 64 Metric Tons.

    cheers

  • Yep I figured it was light, glad you clarified this as it was a crap piece of driving if not. As you were showing off for the cam your forgiven. PS Been driving Semis,B Doubles and Road Trains in Australia for over 20 years.

    cheers

  • Nice Vid dude; I love the sound of your Peterbilt. Good luck on the road.

  • HAY MAN THATS ALRIGHT NOTHIN LIKE THE SOUND OF STRIGHT STACKS AND A GOOD OL JAKE BRAKE!!! IF IT GOs WRONG U GOT IT UNDER CONTROL. I LIVE IN TUCSON,AZ. I PULL FLAGSTAFF MOUNTAIN, TALK ABOUT A LONG ASS PULL!! BUT MY 6 IN A QUATER KITTY CAT PULLS ER OAKY!!!

  • umm.. im pritty sure this thing dosent have straght pipes.. becasue my truck is louder and it dosnet have straight pipes

  • Great videos

Was down that hill a few weeks ago.

  • personally i cant give one flying fuck.. my dick gets hard listening to a peterbilt wit twin turbo going down a mountain riding the jake!!!

  • well sounds like he ant ridin the brakes so if the jake fails he`s got plenty of brakes to stop an look at the problem. some people think they know it all without askin the one involed a single question. twintiprider you`ve done a great job mate, i`ve made a couple of movies myself that people proberly think twice about.... great to see you enjoy your job an are willing to share with others like myself. keep on truckin!!!, c`mon.

  • Johnnyyoyo I can tell your ass never drove a damn truck Plenty of brake Yea These damn things dont stop like a friggen 4wheeler .

  • for those concerned, i do not drive like this everytime. i was having fun for the camera. i'm not a f..rookie. can't a guy have fun with his jake for couple minutes! by the way, it's a cat c-15 in it and i had a 4500lbs load in the trailer.

  • How heavy were ya? I agree with dieseldemon306.

  • Aint nothing like a Jake on A Pete!!!!

  • What motor is in that truck? Sounds like a Cat to me.

  • DD's right. Lose the Jake and you're in a world of hurt.

  • Putting a little to much faith in that Engine Brake always going to be their arent ya . Never feed fuel like that going off a mntn like that , Ya may one day let off that throttle and the jake may not be their , Experinced Driver with over 1 million miles sending a tip to ya
