@TheMeanpeoplesuck Direct from the legendary Paul Collins himself: 'The fourth guy was an original member of The Nerves, Pat Stangl. He was a chilhood friend of Jack Lee's and they had both come down to the Bay Area together from Alaska.'
Every time I hear this song and see this slideshow, I just think to myself how damn dumb and boring everything is nowadays... I missed the whole show.
sure they we're retro for the time like almost all the power pop so called was back then--whats great is that like garage punk a decade or so earlier, this genre didn't even know what it was when it was at it's best. The Nerves we're rare.
This is really good stuff. I would claim this as an influence on my band's work, but I just found out about them today! Playing it over and over in my office!
This is really good stuff. I would claim this as an influence on my band's work, but I just found out about them today! Playing it over and over in my office!
I know of the Nerves.I had their first EP way back in 1977 or 1978 way before you ever heard them or were probably born. They were OK a bit like the Monkeys, a beatles rip off.Where are they now!
Wow...Congratulations old man!! I bet you feel really special having heard them before everyone else. The fact that you were born before everyone on youtube makes you cool and superior to the rest of us too. Also, comparing The Nerves to the Monkeys proves that you are by far the most knowledgeable man on YT.
This band was great. They just fell victim to rock fashion, which at that time in L.A. was all about no talent boneheads contorting and spazzing on stage while screaming crap about how they were better than everybody else 'cause they were 17 and angry.
The Nerves were SUCH a great band. Years ahead of their time! The EP that Hangin On the Telephone came from was a real classic, featuring When You Find Out and other classics. Some people thought Blondie wrote this song, and sure, they did a great cover, but Jack Lees Nerves were real new wave innovators of the early 70s. Listen to this track and the heart and soul in Jacks vocals.
Just bought a 'best of' cd from Paul Collins himself on ebay. Half of it is live or demo versions and it's very nice. Makes me wish I saw them in concert.
Into Am-F-C-Am which is same for start of verse. Then you still want me but I say goodbye (Am-F-C-Am) you say you're waiting for just the right one etc (-Dm-G-Em7-Bb). Note: Em7 is played as a barre chord at 7th fret. Back to verse.
For the part I'll be gone when you find out etc.... F-E7-Am- I'll be gone when you find out.....Bb-A-Dm-F-E7. Hope that helped?
after a 10 year dormancy rock and roll in its purist form was oficially reborn in 1976with groups like ramones, devo and the nerves in los angeles. these 3 kids sold this 45 at record swap meets in la and later headlined for the weirdos, garage punk will never die, this is a great tribute with great photos
I think it's just Am-F over and over again until the last chord, which is C.. then to the "you're saying you're waiting for just the right one" Dm-G etc etc bit. I really don't hear that it goes to C any earlier than that.
Even the best-known Nerves photos are still quite rare. This video slideshow increased the number of existing ones known to me by a factor of ~20. Somebody's a longtime fan, as I doubt this stuff's on ebay!
Great Job! Where did you find some of those pictures? I've never seen most of them. And do you know who the "fourth Nerve" is? I always thought they were a trio from start to finish.
Why do you think they didn't stay together? Not because of commercial success. People are generally listening to crap and Radio Stations will play it. It is so sad.

This was "my dreaming about boys" song in high school. Two other girls and myself used to sit on top of the hood of a friend's Karmann Ghia and
smoke grass and crank this song.

Such a great song. If only the Nerves would've stayed together, the world would be a different (and better) place....
We'd be hearing catchy Powerpop songs on our 80s radio stations instead of Phil Collins and Hair Metal.
