I say get Comodo Internet Security which is free. I has an antivirus, firewall, behaviour blocker, sandbox and more. And get Malwarebytes for an anti spyware which is also a free scanner and remover.

Don't use AVG free, it doesn't have a good firewall/guard. If you really want good protection add on ZoneAlarms or go with Avira.

lol, i think avg. stands for average. Because that's what it is. Even then paid version isnt all that great.

Listen, all those anti-virus programs are probably great, but I don't know why people trash AVG so much. I've been using it for 2 months now and not one threat got through. Sometimes it does it's job so good that it's actually annoying. The only problem is that the automatic update breaks down but that can be fixed with the least of computer knowledge. Before AVG8 I used Avast and Nod32 wich didn't even detect viruses that were eating up my system!

its the truth, avg IS average. I never said sucks i just said its not the best.

well you should of heard for it, it's very common. Some reviews say its arguably the best anti-virus ( the full version which costs haha). But i figured out it had a bug where it tells you that you are up to dated almost every second but you actually are not. I know this because my personal computer technician said that NOD said that it was up-to-dating when the internet connection was disabled.

its only common to the people who know about it. Nod32 is not that famous. And for the money, its not the best (great product, but common, who wants to pay that much?)

well nod32 is popular but you are right, money is a big issues and like you said programs like avg give you the basics and more for free so why spend money for something you can get for free

i have downloaded the free trial from avg... they dont heal all threats because i've been getting some viruses and i am trying to heal them but it ust says that SOME THREATS CANNOT BE HEALED... what can i possibly do

If you are, I feel for ya.

I hate it whenever I download a cracker, or something, and Avast flags it down even if the file doesn't contain a virus.

if you want a full anti virus, download windows live one care trial, it works for 3 months. Then you can uninstall and download it again. It takes about 3o minuets at most to re install the program but its worth the full protection.

and panda anti virus free edition is not well known but its probably the best free anti virus.

i do NOT recommend Avg. AVAST is a far better choice with its detection rate compared to avg. Avast has better realtime protection shields and it scans better. Also Avast uses less memory than avg so i wouldnt recommend avg to really anyone if your going with a free antivirus
