@Hofnerjoe, you got the real story right. Of all the Beatles I like Paul. He is a great all around artist. Actually the three had the same feeling towards Paul being arrogant. So George first went to John asking for help on the "taxman" but in the end Paul agreed to play the solo. When I first heard it I said to myslef, " what a kick ass solo by George" but I discovered it was Paul. Funny trivia but it also showed their feeling towards each of the members.
Great guitar solo by Paul McCartney. Played on his Epiphone Casino. (George was having "guitar issues" the day of the recording so Paul said "let me have a go George"
George was a bit put off but said "go ahead" thinking he (Paul) would not fair any better....but when he heard Paul's solo, he knew Paul just nailed it and kept quiet. John also helped George with some of the lyrics too. Still, it's one of George's best Beatle songs. They should have played it live in 1966.
@hofnerjoe Nice story. Where did you find that out? Thanks for putting it up here. This song really inspired Paul since that is about his best solo in my book.
This is the BBC's 'Sounds Of The Sixties', 'Beatles A to Zed' song for week starting Sat 16th May 2009. A small documentory is given about this song before it is played. It can be heard again for 1 week after 16MAY09 by going to the site & listening again.
