The paid users also get 70% of the profit. Basically the community is funding it instead of EA. The community also decides what goes in it. I personally have a $1,400.00 share. Your not "buying" anything. Your helping fund It's development and will receive a portion of the profits based on your level of funding.
So yes, it is early alpha. Only about 10% complete at this stage.
As for the flaming - leave that to the console and smart phone community. Come on guys, if there are multiple choices of car racing simulators on the market we should be celebrating not complaining. Race them all!
As someone who has been longing for a GPL for next gen PCs, C.A.R.S. has me sold already. Pity I have to wait 18 months for the finished article though. Saw some incredible screenshots of a historical lotus formula 1 on race sim central.
...one other thing, people really need to back off from claiming what is and isn't a 'true sim' unless they have real world experience of driving these cars around these tracks in these very conditions. I suspect that a tiny percentage of sim racers have actually been in or even driven a racing car in anger and are truly able to give us an accurate assessment. As long as you get some enjoyment from being behind the wheel of whatever you are driving, that's all that matters.
I don't really understand why people feel the need to flame one another over the fact that we have a choice of great racing titles. There is no doubting iracings accuracy and realism but give CARS some credit for being a pre alpha and already achieving something drivable. The fact that cars is taking note of the amazing modding community and dedicated sim racers that we have out there is commendable. 10 euros for a bit of a drive is certainly nothing to complain about.
So iRacing got accurate track surface bul lack in light simulation, how the sun affect the driving in some circumstances.
Driving thru the two Lesmos (shadows coming from trees) at Monza ,during summer is pretty tricky to find the line coming from a bright part of the track. PostFx are not fancy if balanced, they add realism attempting to simulate the human eye. The 24hs or some F1 sessions in Asia, Kovalainen crashed in Suzuka due to the low sun, Degner corner. Few examples....
Hi EngineOfDarkness, glad to see the community for C.A.R.S is capable of a good natured debate. Your right, C.A.R.S is and always will be far superior to iRacing in every category. I am very stupid for paying for it, how stupid I am to think iRacing is best sim I've ever used, the list of which includes C.A.R.S, Race 07, rFactor, GTR, and many others. My opinion clearly does not matter, especially as far as my own wallet is concerned. Thanks for opening my eyes.
Interesting you keep saying C.A.R.S is incomplete, yet they are charging money for it. I think trying to make a point that C.A.R.S is incomplete is being used as an excuse. You can continually say this or that is better than iRacing, yet nobody can turn around and bring up any of the plethora of negative things about C.A.R.S because you all just turn around and say it's a beta.
@passmod Your post is so wrong it hurts. You DO NOT GET A GAME when "paying" for C.A.R.S.
You -->>> Invest <<<--- into the D-E-V-E-L-O-P-M-E-N-T, which you can take a part in.
Everybody who paid to get a "complete" Game should be shot on sight and buried with "Dumb" engraved on the gravestone. IT IS NOT EVEN BETA. Not even alpha.
People with no Software Development Background should just stop acting as if they knew something about this. Because they don't. Don't even try to argue.
@passmod It isn't complete! Its pre-alpha, SMS are trying an new business model by letting fans in from the very beginning and using our feedback to improve the game. The game is still 18 months from a full release.
@RacingLineAustralia Yes, I understand that. But how is it fair to compare it to iRacing? You are all talking about how much better it is than iRacing, and yet those of us who like iRacing, can't say anything negative about C.A.R.S because all you guys say is that it's incomplete.
C.A.R.S graphics look fake, like a console game. Anyone who has driven in real life will tell you that blur effect is nothing like what it looks like from behind the wheel.
@RacingLineAustralia Also, the physics are way too forgiving, it took me a lap to spin out the Radical type car, and I was trying to spin it out. Damage looks quite terrible as well, in fact damage does not effect how your car handles, or so it would seem to me. Perhaps terminal damage does.
They might fix it, and I understand it's a beta. But while people starting talking about how much better it is than iR, I will be explaining how it is much, much, much worse.
C.A.R.S. looked much bumper. Which raised the question in me. Was the iRacing version scanned soon after a re-paving? Aren't most of these famous tracks paved every few years? Bumps are a result of weather and ground changes. Scanning is good for percision elevation changes. I think iRacing should have both scanned and none scanned tracks. Why limit content over nitpicking quality control? Quality tracks can be made without scanning. Not all tracts can be easily scanned. Like the Green Hell.
I think iRacing team will start working on massive graphics update 4 next year. CARS is going to set new standard for graphics in sim racing and thats fenomenal.

Also, EngineOfDarkness, what is your name on iRacing?
Please tell me you have one, otherwise your argument means nothing, since you have never tried the game you are saying is incomplete.
Thanks,
Jeff.

CARS looks a lot better from a visual content perspective. Perhaps the money saved on laser scans has been put into a more immersive environment?
I'm yet to be totally convinced how good LiDAR data is once it's rationalised for real-time use.
The rationalisation of the data is what concerns me most, it'd be cool to see the logic syntax for that process and why those decisions were made!
