maybe some one can help me.. my two gerbils i have had them for a couple of weeks they are sisters and one climbs on top of the other and starts... you know. any way my question is are they trying to mate or are they doing somthing else. i know it sounds weird but i am serious.

Hi, they are not trying to mate. Doing this, females are trying to establish or reinforce dominance. Is it always the same one that is on top?

This will present little problems unless the gerbil who is being mounted doesn't want to be submissive , or the mounting becomes excessive and borders on bullying behavior. Most often though if the gerbil doesn't wish to be mounted it will stand tall on its hind legs, usually side on and push the other gerbil away firmly with their face.

they got used to stay on the bed from when they were born, but I always used to be in the room and watch if they will make any unexpected mooves. It is important to be very calm when they are out, to moove slowely because they get scared if they see quick movements.

It is important that there are no holes on the bed or arround where they could fall in and stuck, or kide. It's important that even if they fall on the ground you can easily find them, and that they can't escape to another room. When you first let them out on the bed or sofa, let them run a bit and explore what they have arround. Put some cover on the bed because they might leave "a little present" behind them, or mark a teritory...

@RelReezy You should put a split wire between them, so they get used to eachothers smell. The female is protecting her teritory, and she should get used to the male. you can also try to put them both out of the cage in some safe place like bed or bathroom flore where they cant' dissapear under furniture and see if they still fight.

It's pretty normal for gerbils to hump even if they're all the same sex, but just to be sure, i'd go to a gerbil website to get advice on how to identify whether they are all female (if they are male, they will have a large gap between their butt n genitals)
