I am not mad, I am just questioning the illogical statement made by teagarden8650. True welfare may encourage some to stay on it, but that only means to me that the system needs to be reformed and not scrapped. It is harder to get back up once you are knocked down and if we truly scrapped welfare it would hurt those making less than the bare minimum needed to live/survive. So far all I have seen by the opponents of welfare is rhetoric and selfish attacks on the poor, yet no proof is offered.
I know people who are on welfare and are working and going to school to try to make a better life for themselves, but still struggle b/c the system itself keeps them down and only makes it harder for them to get back up once they are down. That is something anti-welfare

I am not mad, I am just questioning the illogical statement made by teagarden8650. True welfare may encourage some to stay on it, but that only means to me that the system needs to be reformed and not scrapped. It is harder to get back up once you are knocked down and if we truly scrapped welfare it would hurt those making less than the bare minimum needed to live/survive. So far all I have seen by the opponents of welfare is rhetoric and selfish attacks on the poor, yet no proof is offered.

I was actually being sarcastic ... EVERYONE has a right to an opinion ... even celebrities. Our right to have points of view is fundamentally what America is about. Some people have a public forum to spread their opinions to a large amount of people but they shouldn't be condemned for that.

But to say Obama isn't doing anything about it or his policies won't work. What are you basing it on. Bush and Clinton did pay as you go, to Bush 41's detriment. Bush Jr. followed Reagan's supply side / voodoo economics and the spend and taxcut fiscal irresponsibilty. Obama seems to be moderate like Bush 41 and Clinton. Clinton passed NAFTA which was the worst shit ever. Responsible regulation and a progressive tax code I believe is the best formula and Obama is doing it.

I realize the repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act in 1999 was passed with a mostly bipartisan vote with President Clinton signing it but it was proposed and largely written by deregulation fanatic Phil Gramm. Clinton thought it would be a safeguard against a collapse because banks would be further secured but what he didn't realize and what Phil Gramm knew was the next scumbag would put Harvey Pitt in charge of the SEC and republican and democratic leadership in the congress did not do their duty.

Actresses are citizens too. If I have to listen to Curt Schilling you damn well have to listen Sigourney Weaver. The theory on the TARP was that it would free up lending again because the combining of insurance and banking left us in a compromised position. I'm sorry that people couldn't afford their houses because of Bush's policies and predatory lending practices but you can't bail out people if they lived outside of their means. And the TARP is a loan not a grant.

I agree Obama hasn't done a lot of the things I want him to do and I am not that happy with him. I think he should be doing a better job and being stronger on the issues and start clamping down on those who screwed us over (ie Big banks, AIG, etc). But Bush did leave him with the shittiest economy and the worst situation that any other president. So he does have some room to blame Dubya.
