  • That was my first system as a kid (though I wasn't born until 86). Had the system still up until my last move. Don't know where it is now.

  • @PortalJumper98 Game chasers I mean

  • Aren't you the guy that can morph into a car in the game hunter cartoons on the punk effect?

  • OMG!, i just had a major nostalgic moment. This was the first console i ever owned! Being from Europe, it was called a Philips. I would love to get a hold of one of these. I remember the first game i ever played was Terrahawks......if you could do a review on that i would be probably squeal!

  • John u have the best review for this system great console?

  • my dad bought it for us in the early 80s.i wanted an atari but he kept saying this system was superior, so he ended up buying me and my sister this.my original system broke about 15 years ago, but just last year i found one in super condition boxed for 40 bucks!! my wife asks me what i see in this system cause we have all the newer systems , but tou would of had to ezperienced it then to understand it now.

  • @LittleBigKid707b exactly! my dad did the same for the same reason and i have to say the experience of those games is matchless!

  • mine doesn't work anymore

  • where is the sd card slot?

  • @1momerat99 lol!

  • i digged you review dude it's rocking great.

  • How do you use the built in calculator and other programs you mentioned? I tried turning it on without a cartridge in it and all I got was a blank screen. It's no big deal as something as basic as a calculator is useless nowadays, still it would be nice if I could figure out how to use it.

  • Your screen looks a lot clearer than mine. What connection are you using?

  • I like the way you describe and explain stuff. Giving good credits to people who work hard to make all these consoles and games possibles.

  • I have videopac 68 2008 limited run cartridg......any body know what she's worth?

  • Did Ralph Baer have anything to do with the Odyssey 2 ?

  • I think what he never said (got sidetracked) was the the caterpillar from K.C's Krazy Chase was a representation of Centipede which was a popular Atari game..

  • You are like..the biggest nostalgic video game geek i've EVER seen

    ....PROPS BRO = D

  • hmmm i have the system but the the wire is snipped anyway to fix it without paying like $100.00

  • wasnt there also a Chess Module for it as well/

  • I must say, that looks pretty ahead for 1978

  • this system is amazing! i wish i knew about it sooner!

  • imagic released a few decent titles for the O2

  • a couple of notes, the invisible walls on kc munchkin were optional, and there was a 4th master strategy game released that is exceedingly rare called the pink panther, I think as to date only the eprom has been found, but rumors abound that it was released in extremely limited quantities in Brazil, where the videopac was very successful, all of hte parker bros games weren't released in the states, the only 3rd party developer was imagic (in the states)

  • I"m 32 and I cut my teeth on this system. just watching this video was hardcore nostalgia. It wasn't as cool as an atari, but it had some really nice games. We had the voice, the master strategy games, the whole works. Hours of fun playing UFO and Smithereens!

  • @bphutchins 32? kinda young for that to be true, u wernt born or just born when the O2 came out

  • @stilleavy I was born in 1978, I vividly remember playing it when I was very young. I actually remembering seeing pick axe pete on display in service merchandise and begging for it.

  • I just picked up this system, box and all at a Thrift Store for $1. The only thing missing was the power adapter. Does anyone know where to get one or know of one that is compatible with it? Thanks....

  • Reviewing a system older than you? I can't say that, they all came out in my lifetime.

  • well the microprocessor label makes sense coz the first one used discrete logic system, no processor at all

  • It's pretty neat to see a part of video game history like this. I never imagined that there would be Pac Man clones. So this video is very informative for me. Thanks a lot, buddy!

  • My brother bought a magnavox odyssey 2 for $5, only thing is it was missing the power adapter. Does anybody know if you can use a aftermarket adapter and what is it?

  • @rrob78 ebay, craigslist, gamestore, pawn store, conventions, etc....

  • @rrob78 yeah you can. I bought one at radio shack like 10 years ago and it worked fine. I don't remember what the wattage/voltage was, but just find a generic power adaptor at radio shack with the same voltage.

  • As far as pacman clones go those looked pretty good. And I have to agree about those Quest games have great boxes of stuff!

  • WOW...I never knew this console existed! Now I need to find one...I love collecting old games! Shoot, I still play my NES and Turbo Grafx 16 on a regular basis..

  • I had this game in the early 80s. Lots of fun. KC Munckin was great. Quest for the rings was great as well.

  • only 3 that came out??

  • Great video very awesome.

  • Is Cryptologic the word guessing game?? My parents had an odyssey 2 back in the day (at least, I *think* it was), and there was a game were you could play word games. Ummm...yeah. That's all I had. Is that the right game? Thanks, ~ N.

  • My aunt in Belgium had a Videopac, and he still had it back in the nineties catching dust, I'm so sad that I didn't told him to give it to me back in the day!

  • @majora1993 as far as I remeber is KC Munchkin (yeah! like KC & the Sunshine band), and actually the first one is a great game! the second is also good but the first one is so good that you can see why Atari didn't want it to be released with the console.

  • when will they leaglize maryjane

  • the PS3 doesn't have a built in keyboard AND calculator .... suck on that Sony! 8-)

  • Those games sure came with a lot of stuff, and to think nowadays you aren't even guaranteed a manual (i.e Ubisoft).

  • Nice one. :)

  • Can you review the Amiga 500 please?

  • OOOO A VINTAGE ITEM ill trade you a 4 crates

  • The 'main brain' is an Intel chip that is socketed and with a bit of effort can be upgraded. Everything is done on that chip as far as memory and I/O, and it seems that Magnavox had intended it to be upgradable at some point.

I have two and love mine. Great vid!

  • Great review John! I think the Odyssey 2 has a very good design for a late 70s console! The membran keys may not function well but sure looks cool and futuristic for it's time!

  • Cool stuff John! Had no idea about the voice for the unit

  • Good review of a neat old system. I saw a Coleco Vision at a Good Will a few week ago. It had about ten games with it. It was in an auction case.

  • Wow, really cool game boxes! Thanks for sharing this

  • my flea market has one for 5 bucks and im going to pick it up

  • @jose5080007 Nice Deal ! maybe 20 years from now it will be 10.000 bucks on ebay.

  • @declaration963 classic games get better everyday!

  • @jose5080007 holy classic sh¡t!

  • Wow this board game video game things are really neat, seems like it would still be fun to play today

  • I love the look of the game boxes foe O2, also that last game actually looks pretty fun!

  • Hey Gamester, I found a vintage ADAAM computer for 40 bucks, should i buy it?

  • Great review on a great console!

  • wow...zers

  • Awsome review, did you know you can type your name in to show on screen during a game? It shows up where the line of question marks are at the bottom of the screen. Never saw the voice unit before, cool

  • How do you get your hands on all these obscure consoles?

  • @IdleOrange ebay.com ;)

  • It was very popular in France I believe... So, this console sucks!

  • Atari took Magnavox to court. What is the name of the game you are playing that Atari got so pissed off about? Hopefully you can get the speech synthesis unit working again soon!

  • @SledgehammerMario k.c munchkin

  • @lestat34208 you mean Pac-Man? lol

  • @SledgehammerMario I know its pac man but I thought you were asking what was the game that the odysseey one was? ;) which is kc munchkin

  • @lestat34208 Yes your correct that was the original question. Do you find the lawsuit to be offensive to the gaming community or do you believe that for that time period it was the correct thing for Atari to do? K.C. Munchkin! = Pac-Man!

  • @SledgehammerMario Well I cna see why atari saw what they saw in KC. Perhaps back in the day they were over proctected. I do not believe it to be offensive to the gaming community. I am sure that magnavox was indeed inspired by pacman but they wanted to take their own spin on the game? I still lvoe playing KC today sometimes better than pacman :P Do you play it? I may have to do a game play when my channel is up :P

  • The game boxes for the conquest of the world and quest for the rings were totally awesome! Full color instruction booklet together with great artwork on the box. The concept of combining a board with the videogame is pretty cool as well, but I don't know how it works in practice. The Odyssey 2 is a nice collectible system.

  • @KetilsGEEKTV I want to see the board/videogame work also, kind of want to get this just to test it out.

  • I've got the Philips VideoPac version of the Odyssey 2, but it's missing the nubs at the top of the sticks, do you know if I can buy any replacements anywhere?

  • Awesome games

  • what kinda program you use to edit your videos

  • I used to own this console, and I could never really get into it. I guess I don't like most of the games on it.

  • the way it looks reminds me of the delorean

  • You dont have to play with a dissapering maze in K.C. Munchkin.

  • I believe KC Munchkin was actually the first Pac-Man-style game to be released for a home console, beating the official (and very crappy) Atari 2600 Pac-Man to the market by a few months. What really hurt Magnavox was not so much the Atari lawsuit, but rather their inability to get any third-party developers to make games for the Odyssey2. Magnavox only had a very small group of in-house programmers, so most of the games were not as good as they could've been.

  • That was rather cool. Thanks for sharing! Have a good day!

  • Great video, really enjoyed my time watching.

  • nice review of a classic system

  • that's sick better than i thought itd be, good vid man

  • OLD TIMES RULES

  • i picked up mine at a flea market for $6 with box and 9 games and came with 3 nondetachable controllers for some odd reason...

  • cool stuff

  • nice find

  • my nana has magnovax audio

  • yeah, KC Munchkin isn't too pricey. I actually got mine free cib at a used game store, but i think thats cause they just wanted to bail all pre nes games. Had i actually paid for it, it was only 6 bucks. not too bad at all. Once again john, nutha great video.

  • Great video

  • Awesome Odyssey 2 review John, I need to get one of those.

  • nice review. i love my odyssey 2 btw the Philips Videopac G7000 (that i have^^)

  • who ever was the one dilike must be gay

  • Nice review John, way to stick it to man, lol! I have both games and are still fun and challenging to this day.

  • I saw this console compared to the Sega Dreamcast (Classic Game Room HD reviewed that).

  • man look at those box graphics. so retro!

  • Excellent little console. The US box art is very different from the European box art. Also the packaging was very different.

After Pong this was the first console I played on back in the day.

  • wow thank you so much john for doing this review. ive always herd about this system but didnt know anything about it. thank you so much, great review as always. i also have another question for you though. in this video you metiond the video game crash, what exactly is that. ive heard mulitple old school video game reviewers metion it but none would go into detail. if you have time do you think you could do a short video explaining what the video game crash exactly was

  • I had a chance to buy one of those CIB but I lost contact with the seller a while back :(

  • The packaging for the Quest For The Rings is nicer than most special edition games that are released today. Pretty awesome.

  • The last game reminds me of Noby Noby Boy, well... a bit.

Excellent video, I hadn't seen this system before. Thanks!

  • i jacked off during this video

  • @EARTHW0RMJIM55 wtf?

  • @EARTHW0RMJIM55lolololololo....thats funny man lololololo

  • subtitle text hear!

  • I LOVED this system. My brother was a beast at KC Munchkin. KC Munchkin, Pick Axe Pete, War of Nerves, KC'S Krazy Chase, Demon Attack, Monkeyshines, Thunderball, UFO, fun fun fun. I think I still have one of these somewhere.

  • Awesome console.

    I still have mine!

  • What a great system :p:p

    I want one ! xD

  • finally ive been waiting for this review forever i recently found a luggage box in the attic that had this system with like 10 games also had a atari 5200 inside!!!

  • I dont see how K.C. Munchkin is rare, every time I see an Odyssey 2 lot on craigslist or ebay, it comes with KC Munchkin.

  • The Philips Videopac G7000 i have has removable controller's with 9-pin port's like a Atari 2600 or Sega MegaDrive.

I wonder if that Voice module would work on my unit?

  • lol this thing XD Yeah I have seen people played on this thing.

  • never heard of that 1 :)

  • Looks dusty lol

  • Great video, John. I definitely need to pick up one of these. They're really inexpensive these days.

  • Does the keyboard on that thing really work? It looks like a sticker.

  • @KingCalaway Though not the most responsive YES they do work, much like the membrane keyboard on the original Atari 400 computer among other 80's computers.

  • I remember seeing this system with the box at a local video game store, wish I picked it up looks cool.

  • Love the Odyssey 2... KC Munchkin is an awesome game!

  • Nice review.

  • what is the voice worth i am tring to sell mine

  • great job w/your lighting!

  • I bought a boxed one at a flea market a couple of months ago and to my suprise the system was still factory sealed

  • I think William Shatner did a TV ad for Magnavox Odyssey.

  • Great, there isnt many reviews of the MO2.

  • 1st

  • @kpggggp No, you're 3rd.

  • @crisco21c no youre a towl fucking jew
