British Common Law (which Australia has inherited) is the best judicial system in the world, and anything less is the degradation of humanity. Common Law requires the citizen jury system (which Bulgaria doesn't use, that's immoral) and the burden of proof to go with the accused. Two witnesses, both police officers, testified that when they arrived at the scene they were informed by other officers, as well as members of the gang themselves, that there had been a fight that preceded Palfeeman's intervention.
Another policeman also appeared to back the defence's explanation that Palfreeman had only intervened after witnessing a beating of a Roma.

British Common Law (which Australia has inherited) is the best judicial system in the world, and anything less is the degradation of humanity. Common Law requires the citizen jury system (which Bulgaria doesn't use, that's immoral) and the burden of proof to go with the accused. So if there's any doubt,&there is, the accused gets let off (that doesn't happen in Bulgaria). To say nothing of changing witness statements. It's all terrible

You can have rich parents who are strict and might let you have fewer material objects than someone who is, say, lower middle-class. Two witnesses, both police officers, testified that when they arrived at the scene they were informed by other officers, as well as members of the gang themselves, that there had been a fight that preceded Palfeeman's intervention.
Another policeman also appeared to back the defence's explanation that Palfreeman had only intervened after witnessing a beating of a Roma.

I don’t know what the exact truth is, but Andrey Monov was one of the leaders of the fans of the football team Levski, Levski Zapad, notorious with their Nazi actions. So, I’m very prone to believe that Joc wanted to defend gypsies being beaten by these Levski fans and had to pull a knife being surrounded and attacked by them. If a group of people encircles somebody trying to beat him up with stones and iron bars and he pulls a knife and try to defend himself, then some of the attackers may turn his back on him, trying to avoid the stroke and thus get hit in the back. The judge decides whether it is self-defense or not. Strangely all the witnesses were Monov’s friends, the beaten gypsies “were not found” and people who were with Joc were not called as witnesses. The Bulgarian justice system is simply not working. Many things in Bulgaria has collapsed and/or not working. I have been to Bulgaria last year and very little has changed for the last 20 years. I traveled around Bulgaria and its an extremely poor country. The development in Bulgaria is very uneven most places in Bulgaria do not show any signs of development. Many services in Bulgaria cannot be trusted, I could never trust the police in Bulgaria. Bulgaria is the EU's failed state

I think in Bulgaria having a knife is illegal much like in the UK. So whether it was self defense or not he is responsible for the crime. The reason is that by breaking the law by carrying a knife he caused the knife to be used (whether in self defense or not I don't care). If he didn't have a knife he might not have acted so bravely or the know thing might have ended in a couple of punches. Now that guy is dead and that family is left without a son.

I am from Oz & I might ask you a question. Why was he even carrying a knife with him? I have travelled overseas several times and have never thought to carry a knife with me? The english news was very bad too, the australian was mixed, much more objective. he worked for 20 leva a day! in samokov on the potato farms, for almost a year, lived with his bulgarian friends who took him in and treated him like family
