  • You incredible woman you.

    Thanks~

    -Just another procrastinator

  • Aww, man. Aren't we all sort of procrastinating by watching this?

  • You're amazing :')

  • I love this woman.

  • it drives me crazy that the workload is what it is in this profession, and clearly this is not merely a local issue. teachers (new or experienced) are not drawing the lines and saying "enough!!" and it is getting worse. ambition and the singular career-mindset and pressures from above.....it's a grim reality and it has been this way TOO long. working 50 hours a week in a school building is long and hard enough for the reward. education should put back what it takes, like everything else.

  • Good video.

  • You are right, i do feel like a loser when i can't get things done. But i am gonna try your method, doing one thing at a time. Thanks

  • What about going for a run? How to not procrastinate that?

  • This is good stuff... I must watch it tomorrow.

  • your videos are very helpful. I find myself inspired to try to actually work against my bad habits in procrastination. However, no matter how hard I try, I still find myself doing badly on the thing I'm putting off. I do it very slopy. This discourages me and I procrastinate more. I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. I've tried rewards, and I still end up never getting quality work done. I know that I can do these things, I've done them before. It's just when I try to not procrastinate.

  • Dear Echofeather, Are you overwhelmed? I can't give a solution in this short reply window, but one idea is if you are feeling swamped, select just one thing to do, and spend time on it WITHOUT starting a whole bunch of other things at the same time. • I'm here with an overdue English paper infront of me at 1:30am, crying. Those last few words in this vid hit the nail on the head. You said just what has been tormenting me: dread, feeling like a loser. I used to be near the top of my class. Now? Ugh. Thank you for this speech. You understand. You've been there. I'm just so miserable and tired. I just want to restart, but it always ends up the same. I'm tired of feeling like a loser. But I'm ready to fight.

    Baggy-eyed and sleep deprived,

    Sandra

  • Dear Sandra, You sound so tired and discouraged -- my heart goes out to you. Yes, I do know exactly how you feel because I've been there myself many times. One of the greatest advantages of breaking the procrastination habit (besides actually getting things done) is that you feel ENERGIZED. I suggest you subscribe to my free tip sheet (the url is under "more info" above). You will get continued help every month and together we will work to break your procrastination habit.

    Warmly,

    Rita

  • What happens if you even dont do the things you love to do?

Last week I had reserved some tickets for my fav. theatre and know what I did instead? Layin on my couch saying to myself "Nah, I'd have to change clothes and wait for the tram and walk through the city center for that, let's stay at home where I dont have to do so" ... If I can't even reward myself because I don't get my ass up then how the hack would the rewarding system work? :(

  • Long ago, a very cool writer, Norman Vincent Peale said "Enthusiasm creates energy." You, my friend, need something to be enthusiastic about. Have you ever experienced being physically exhausted, then someone you haven't seen in ages but who you really like, calls & says "Let's get together." Suddenly, you feel full of energy and raring to go.

You need to add something to your life that you can feel enthusiastic enough about to get your..um... self up -- and out the door.

    Make sense? more...

  • Well yeah but unfortunaly I even cancel meetings with friends most of the time because I just can't get my ass up. I got a job where I can stay at home all day so I just leave for important stuff like buying somethin to eat. I got a million reasons for that: Weather, ppl I dont wanna meet, me bein sick with some little cold and so on. There's nothing that could get me enthusiastic enough to go outside and actually enjoy it. (Once am outside I do but I gotta try hard for that)

  • Dear cananhouari2,

You mention threatre tickets & catching a tram. I live in the Chicago area & we don't have trams and don't spell theater that way. So I'm dying to know where you live. (Then I can brag that someone who lives far, far away actually viewed my video.)

    Warmly,

    Rita

  • Hey Rita,

yea you are right, I am actually a bit far away. I am Algerian, originally from Ouargla (middle Algeria) but grown up and living in Leipzig/Germany.

I really like your videos. I mean one can easylie see, that you got a clue of what you're talking about, unlike so many self called expert. :)

  • I use the computer as a reward. If I do something, I can go check the email or write an email or watch a YouTube video.

  • This is great! Your other videos are helpful too. I put this one on my blog today! Thanks!

  • Dear Beloved Ideas, Well, aren't you well-named!! You DO have beloved ideas. I LOVE the idea that you will mention my videos in your blog. So happy that you like them. Thank you very, very much.

  • Just saying: Baba Nam Kevalam...

  • Dear Suprakash08,

For anyone looking for a translation to your comment, I found one meaning... "Everything is an expression of one infinite, loving Consciousness."

    Warmly,

    Rita

  • In reply to your Channel comment - I agree that meditation is a good means to success. Thank you for writing.

    Rita

  • Rita, I love what you have to say. I know though that I am putting off MAJOR things that are going to have very serious consequences with my job and finances...still, I go to the computer, sleep, or do something else. While doing these escape activities, I am still churning inside about what is not being done. Please...how do you overcome that?

  • Boy do I ever know about that "churning". I used to make myself sick over my procrastination. Here's how to start. Pick ONE thing to do. Something like wash the dishes.

Set a timer for one hour. Don't start anything else and don't take breaks. THEN give yourself a reward. Relish the reward.

Good luck and find a reward that you really enjoy. You deserve something wonderful.

    Warmly,

    Rita

  • I think setting the timer/alarm clock is a good idea. I think also that if this incentive stops being motivating, try another one next time. Try a different one every time, if it will help.

  • I always give myself rewards...before I finish...and I give myself another reward...before I finish.

  • Ahhhhh Grasshopper -- let us ponder the eternal question: How much -- HOW MUCH -- have you finished??? Save that reward for after your task is complete.

It builds character, adds a sense of discipline, makes you feel like a winner, helps you reach goals, moves you along on the road to success and most of all, that reward will help you actually FINISH something. It works!

    Warmly,

    Rita E

  • You're absolutely right. Thank you.

  • Thank you for agreeing with me. You are the first person in my life to agree with me this week :)

    Warmly,

    RIta

  • cooL! thanks for the advice! hopefully i can actually make myself put it into actions!

  • If I can convert from being the world's greatest procrastinator, anybody can. That includes YOU!

    Warmly,

    Rita Emmett

  • Ironically enough...I'm only using this to prolong putting off an essay I'm doing haha.

  • Hmmmm, it strikes me that the BEST reward you can select for yourself is "NO writing of emails or any comments on YouTube or anything else on the web till that essay is done." How ironic -- no writing till your writing is done.

Warmly, another writer, Rita Emmett (author of best-selling book, The Procrastinator's Handbook)
