No Peter, the words are "Like the dust that settles all around me.." hehe - love hearing these bits, really must sort out my HG stuff, got tons from the Movement site and forgot about it sitting there on the hard drive!
Speaking of which, that song, I think, really defines Prog in a minute and a half. When people ask me what Progressive Rock is, I just play that song.
Glickton. Just ignore all the bad comments. I've only recently found your brilliant uploads and I am very grateful for your contributions. There isn't one that I haven't enjoyed. Thank you so much for all of these priceless glimpses into the archives of a brilliant band.
This is them playing around in the studio obviously, duh. Not all songs sound great while they're being written. Too bad they weren't able to make something great of it, but that's how music gets written. It didn't go anywhere so they abandoned it and obviously didn't put it on the album caused it never got out of the sucky phase. That doesn't mean it isn't Genesis. That's Peter's voice, Tony's mellotron, Steve's guitar, Mike's bass, and Phil's drumming if I've ever heard it.
Sounds to me almost like something that might've cropped up on one of PG's 1st 2 albums. I always liked Rutherford's bass playing, love how crunchy it sounds here
Well, it's slow and in the key of G. I just thought that maybe Banks or whoever may have recycled the beat and key of this for 'Afterglow', but yeah, it's probably not where 'Afterglow' comes from. Now if only genesisinsideme can stop harrassing people for their opinions and understand my reasoning behind that statement.
@Mikemaniax like the dust that settles all around me ...I must find a new home...the ways and holes that used to give me shelter.....are you thinking about this Afterglow? so far from this raritie... so raritie, there are best rarities I know!
Dude. You're a fucking snob! It's slow , it's in the key of G, and the vocal melody here and there is a bit like Afterglow. Ok, so it may not be what Afterglow came from, I'm wrong then. I'll happily admit it, I'm wrong. Now fuck off you piece of shit and stop making everybody feel bad for having opinions you Fox News sucking fucktard!
@MisterQuebec absolutely out, I don t believe this is Genesis , sorry but how can anybody listen here a sound near Afterglow... ?????????????? ....or Counting out time? , I think it s bad joke!
Seriously man. Do you really think that some lame ass band would go out of their way to put shitty lo-fi music onto a CD-r and make people believe that it's Genesis? If you believe that, then you're an asshole.
@genesisinsideme definitely Genesis, I have some old rehearsal stuff - a load of this surfaced in the early 90's on cd bootlegs (I have one Selling England and one Lamb cd) - making the original cd's now as old, if not older than the music they carried at the time they came out! :-O
like to know where u ended up getting this GLICKTON as its a very good find sounds awesome i like to think it wasn't just improvisation as then u know thats its a unrealeased song ;-)
What's interesting is that it seems like they were working pretty hard on this, like it was ready to go on the album. It's close to a finished song, maybe an early version of In the Rapids or something. It does not sound like improvisation to me--it sounds past that stage.
I agree completely. It has the slow, melancholic, emotionally-charged and building quality of In The Rapids. I think I read somewhere that In the Rapids was some of the last music to get written for the album so that it could tie the story together. I'm not sure of this though. I'm guessing they replaced it with something with a better melody or stronger chord structure.
Thanks so much Glickton. You've shed amazing light on rarities we non-traders could never hope to find.
As Glickton pointed out, this is just improvisation. They play and sing whatever comes to their mind trying to find parts that could be part of a song.
Indeed, fascinating. I think it's easy to hear all kinds of Lambesque tunes within this one but that's mainly due to the drums, keyboards and Pete's vocals all being from that session.

Sounds like an extension of In The Rapids.

But, dudes and dudettes, this is great to hear.

This is incredible - a piece of probably '74 Genesis jamming in the sudio. Obviously just rough sketches but still a glimpse. Thanks for posting it.

@GLICKTON That end bit certainly sounds like the 'Mankind' bit near the end of Counting Out Time.

To my ear, there seems to be traces of Counting Out Time. Maybe a very early version?
hegelec 3 years ago
@hegelec Yes it is, *and* of Afterglow - obviously post-75 'genesis' bumped into this recording in 1976...
