  • I really like your song and you are very tallented Rissi!

  • @jellyfishjosh2 Unlike Beyonce, she hasn't had surgery done to make herself look a certain way. She doesn't wear weave or dance like she's a stripper...

Plus how can you compare Rissi, a country singer, to Beyonce, a hiphop singer? that's like comparing apples and oranges. Both are fruits but waaaaay different...

  • She is just TOO amazing!!!

  • Well done, great voice!

  • I love this song! I wonder does Rissi recognize that Miko Marks paved the way for some of her success, without the support of The Big Machine in Nashville, that Rissi obviously had "in the beginning".

  • @blkfyre1 Miko Marks paved the way for Rissi??, what because she is also black? When Miko Marks comes close to having a top 40 hit on the radio...maybe then you can say she paved the way for someone. I met Miko on a cruise ship a few yrs back, and although she could sing, I wasn't overly impressed. I wouldn't say she had any more talent than the thousands of other women trying to make it big in Nashville. But, because she's black we should notice her more???

  • @Clint8179 In several respects YES MIKO DID undeniably blaze a trail for Ms. Palmer to follow! It's A FACT that before Rissi graced Ebony, and other magazines, or was news, Miko was a already "Freeway Bound" as one of the lone contemporary black females in the "exclusive genre". And NO...no one should be put on a pedestal simply for belonging to a certain group!...."wouldn't say she had any more talent than the thousands of other women trying to make it big in Nashville"...now thats just funny!

  • @Clint8179 @Clint8179 : The fight isn't between Miko and Rissi.... I hear, THEY actually have tons of respect for 1 another. The fight is for REPRESENTATION! When Michael McDonald sings, or Marshal Mathers (Eminem) raps, blacks recognize them and embrace their good work despite their race, yet when Miko or a Rissi do the same on the other side of the coin...they are practically "Shunned" or down right "Ignored & Minimized". The struggle continues!

  • @blkfyre1 There are several reasons that there hasn't been a Black woman that has had much success in Country music, first and formost, there aren't many who are even trying. Rissi and Miko are about the only 2 that I can think of.. you say they are ignored, shunned and minimized. How bout the hundreds of White women who have tried...and met with the same fate as Rissi and Miko. For every Rissi and Miko...there are hundreds of women of other races who have failed to get noticed also.

  • @Clint8179 One more quick reply! lol. "There aren't many who are even trying"...My response...Would you try to make it in the NBA if you saw a Michael Jordan or LaBron calibre players not even get the opportunity to step onto the court while folks with 1/5 the talent get MVP Awards? Personally, I'd find it a bit discouraging to say the least. Trust... "Country Girls" like Miko and Rissi were/ARE a legitimate threat! Once Jackie Robinson steps onto the field, the bar is raised, and things CHANGE!

  • @blkfyre1 Just because neither Rissi or Miko have made it big..that doesn't mean the White folks don't embrace and recognize their talent. Perhaps what it means is that no record company is willing to invest the money to try and develope them into stars. One of the reasons may be is that Blacks represent less than 1% of Country Music fans. In the examples you used..ie..Eminem....both Blacks AND whites listen to rap...so it's not as much of a risk to develope a white Rapper.

  • @Clint8179 NOTE: Whites "weren't always" avid listeners or participators in Rap Music, not until QUALITY ARTIST like Eminem were supported from w/in black music (NWA), THEN, listenership grew! A phenomenon no doubt! Who would would have thunk it? lol...On the other side, If 1/100 the support showered on anti-talent, "Swift" were awarded Rissi or Miko, w/ their "supreme" talent, they'd be household names! Like Eminem, they bring something NEW & EXCITING! However, Country Music doesnt want that.

  • @blkfyre1 It's all a numbers game..for every 100 White women who try to make it in Country Music, maybe ONE will actually get a record deal and get played on the radio. That means 99 will not have the success they want,.but yet nobody is saying that they were shunned or minimized. So far, you have given us 2 Black women ( Rissi and Miko) who have tried to make it in Nashville. So, 99 White women can fail...and nobody cries racism, but if 2 Black women fail, it's time to play the race card

  • @Clint8179 Honestly sir, I dont have the energy or time to address all your comments, FACT is Nashville is "historically" one of the epicenters of racist culture. To this day, we can find confederate flags, t-shirts, etc. proudly displayed on Broadway, and elsewhere through the area. You may even agree that these aren't welcoming symbols to African Americans. In actuality, they rightfully symbolize terror to many. Finally...Rissi and Miko arent ordinary, they are EXRAORDINARY! Love U bro! Thanks

  • @Clint8179 I say this RESPECTFULLY...Rissi nor Miko have failed....the story isn't over for either of them. Their challenges are just Greater.... but the Greater the Challenge...The GREATER THE VICTORY. I personally encourage them to continue lifting their voices, and I wish them both GREAT VICTORY!!! They make me, and lots of other folk very PROUD. They REPRESENT well.

  • @blkfyre1 When I say fail, I mean failure to have the degree of success that either you, and some others think they should have acheived by now. You must really be looking through rosed colored glasses to think that their talent in Country Music measures up to Michael and LeBron's in b-ball. When I was on the cruise with Miko, there was a young white Country singer named Rebecca Lynn Howard...the difference in talent between her and Miko was obvious. BTW Charley Pride = Jackie Robinson

  • @Clint8179 Rebecca Howard??? Yes, the difference between their talent IS OBVIOUS... like comparing Aretha Franklin to Taylor Swift. A Definite difference! SOUL vs Pseudo SOUL. When Robinson "BROKE THE COLOR LINE" he "kicked down the door" and the game CHANGED FOREVER...w/ Pride (he got HIS)...but the door remains bolted shut after decades of "so-called" PRIDE. If you look @ CMA today you might think it was still 1965, aside from a "very quick" Rucker sighting. Pride is no Robinson my friend!

  • @blkfyre1 The problem isn't with White folks not accepting Blacks into Country Music, it's with the Black folks themselves... they don't support the ones who have made it. How do you market a Black Country singer when you know you aren't gonna get any help from Black fans...that makes it kinda tough. In other types of music, such as Rap, White folks will support a White Rapper...even though Rap is looked at as traditionally a Black form of music.

  • @Clint8179 @Clint8179 First, thanks for the respectful discourse... Its refreshing! Now..you are "partially" correct in regards to the black on black support. I suspect however there would be support when stellar artist such as Rissi or yes... even Miko would be "allowed" to step on the stage. EXAMPLE: If Tiger were never allowed on the course ( for many years he wouldnt have been) we might not know he existed and would never have become.... "A MASTER" or arguably the greatest golfer ever!

  • @blkfyre1 Comparing and athlete to an entertainer is like apples and oranges. They keep score in athletics, so as long as you keep winning, you will have success no matter what race you are. In entertainment, you can be the most talented person in the world... but if they figure out a way to market you to the public your success may be limited. I believe that there is vidieo on youtube of Rissi on the Grand Ole Opry, how much more of a stage can she get than that?

  • @Clint8179 You are right about Rissi getting a chance to be on the Opry. BUT...I wonder where she is now? What type of BS did she encounter at the Opry? She was obviously supported in "the beginning" by someone with some clout to get her from "no where to somewhere" really quick!

  • @blkfyre1 Who says that she ran into ANY kind of BS at the Opry... seems as if you are implying that, because of her skin color..she may have had to put up with some BS that other performers don't have to. Do you know how many times I have seen young performers on the Opry, and then have never heard from them again. But yet, when this happens to a Black performer, you want us to believe that it is solely because of prejudice.

  • @Clint8179 No I don't want you to believe that, yet it's highly probably, though not confirmed factual as of yet. Remember...Rissi was not your "average opry performer". She is/was EXTRAORDINARY...only to be compared to The VERY BEST in Country Music! She is/was a real threat to the staus quo!

I rest my case Jeff....as the MC on the Miko Marks..."Something to talk About" video says......

"SHE SET THE BAR HIGH"....maybe too high for "non jumpers"! Thanks sir...It's been really FUN!

  • My last post was supposed to say....if they CAN'T figure out a way to market you to the public. BTW, Miko and I became friends on the cruise, matter of fact she even mentions my name on here in her video ...Let's give them something to talk about. I wish her nothing but the best, although I do realize that she is fighting an uphill battle. If Charley Pride was not able to bring many black fans to Country Music, it's gonna tough for others like Rissi and Miko

  • @Clint8179 Just watched the video! Looks like she "Demolished You"! lol....Now I get it! As the MC "appropriately" says at the end of the clip...."Damn that was Awesome...She 'Set THE BAR HIGH'"!. Seee...I told yaI Looks like with all the awards Miko Marks' has gathered since that cruise, its been quite the journey for her! I learned about her reading Country Weekly, People, & Ebony too. Just saw her on BET few months ago w/ RunDMC! So Glad I found Rissi great talent also! 2 Hidden Gems 4 sure!!

  • @blkfyre1 She says in the video that she is gonna have to pull out the big guns to beat me... now, if you are on a Grand Ole Opry cruise and your so-called " Big Gun" isn't even a COUNTRY song...what does that say about you as a COUNTRY artist. The judges were 3 crew members..now do you really think they would let a woman, who is on the ship selling her CD's, lose to some truckdriver from Pennsylvania. If the crowd had been the judge...I think there would have been a different outcome.

  • @Clint8179 I see! Yea...I think you are right! And your right again, Bonnie Raitt isn't country...I think she is Blues...and we both know the Blues doesnt have anything to do with Country! lol

  • @blkfyre1 To be honest with you, she was awarded the win. Did she demolish me??, not even close. After that night, I think I had more fans on the boat than she did... I signed autographs and had several people who wanted pictures with me...and I didn't even have a CD that I was trying to sell. I sang a Doug Stone, and a Gene Watson song that really connected with the Grand Ole Opry crowd. Somehow , her Bonnie Raitt song didn't have the same affect.

  • @Clint8179 The picture is CLEARER NOW. Get over it bro...its over! lol

  • @blkfyre1 you got it wrong, I have nothing against her, I hope she does well. I would never have even brought the performance up had you not made the remark about her demolishing me. As far as the Bonnie Riatt Song...when you are singing for a Grand Ole Opry Crowd... give then what they wanna hear. If your best song isn't even a Country song, how do they take you seriously as a Country artist??

  • @Clint8179 I know bro, I'm just teasingt! No Hard Feelings. lol Cuz ironically what sparked our dialogue is that you initially stated you were "unimpressed" by Miko Marks talent. NOW THAT SURPRISED THE HECK OUTTA ME, so I delved deeper! Then eventually, you "reveal" she once beat you in a singing competition many years ago? That piece of the puzzle brought everything together! It's nice though that you sincerely "hope she does well". Looking @ her website , she's done it, and still doing it!

  • @blkfyre1 The competition really was more of a fun thing...kinda like an Americal Idol re-creation. It was nothing that I took seriously. I made the remark that I really wasn't that impressed based on the fact that I have spent a lot of time in Nashville. I have seen some of the talent that is playing in the bars down there. Even though Miko certainly has talent, I wouldn't say that she has anymore than the ones who are struggling to make it in Nashville. Just my opinion.

  • @blkfyre1 to sing and she sang Respect by Aretha Franklin...and let me tell ya, this girl was kickin ass on this song. As we looked a little closer, we recognized her..it was Rebecca Lynn Howard. I never knew that little white girl could sing like that. So, you might want to be careful about which one you compare to Aretha, and which one gets compared to Taylor.

  • @Clint8179 HILARIOUS! Miko is from DETROIT...lol....She was raised in the choych, and on MoTown...mouthing the words, and having the SOUL behind them are two completely different things.

  • @blkfyre1 I'm glad you brought up Aretha Franklin, it reminds of something that took place on the ship. There was karaoke every night and Miko and myself were usually there singing. One night we happen to Notice Charley pride sitting in the back. Miko had invited him there to hear her sing a Patsy Cline song. After she was done and both Miko and Charley had left ...I noticed a group of about 4 young women came and sat at a table next to me and my g/f. They then called the one woman up

  • @Clint8179 "some" of her success! YES

  • wow only 5 comments and 6,168 rissi deserves more than that

  • @DramaQueen9324 Yes you are right...."Rissi deserves more than that"! I fully agree...yet thats how it tis "round these parts"....Lol I hope she is doing well and, one day tell "the true story" of her quick appearance onto the "country scene" followed by a abrupt disappearance from Nashville, her label, and country music, after a stellar song and sound w/ "Country Girl". It would be interesting to hear the story.

  • i loves this song!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • First time I heard this song I knew she is going places. It has the twang of the Dobro, the call of fiddles and it is bluesy, soulful, sexy, hip and still down-home. In other words, it is perfect.

  • wow she is amazing / wife loves this song

  • lover her voice she got talent beautiful to
