  • Let him play Andy Asteroids that would be groooovy

  • @Miffex Certainly up Tom's alley. But do you have a transcription of it?

  • @Keeper1st check your channel comments

  • @Keeper1st check your inbox

  • @Miffex Thanks. I created a score. Those who know how to edit URLs can find it in the same folder as the one linked in this video...

  • neck beard ratio has reached critical mass

  • Dude always looks so happy playing. The piano sounds happy too. I'm glad he and the piano found each other, however many years ago it must have been.

  • Geil man....das is das versteckte Level bei Dr Affenkopf!!!! Wo diese Musi kommt. Diese game hat meine Jugend geprägt :D

  • IN THE END, IT REMINDS ME OF THE "MAPLE LEAF RAG", SCOTT JOPLIN.

  • @agger382 That's because it is. So is most of the second strain (starting at about 30 seconds into the video). It's just in a different key.

  • sounds alot like vatican rag at the beggining, or is that another joplin adaption?

  • @Henry1993bc It's just a generic sort of thing, really.

  • @Henry1993bc Vatican Rag is an original song by Tom Lehrer, which does play off of the basic rag theme that Joplin is so well known for.

  • Aww, it's a huge fun watching you playing. You really look like you're enjoying it. X3

  • can you ragtime-ize sonic 1 soundtrack?

  • I like how he's smiling while playing it.

  • got this nailed on the accordion now :D ive played it more than twice mind....

  • Hahaha so cool nice work men !

  • Simply grand! Thanks, just when I thought I'd finally banished that game's music from my mind after countless hours of play, too. Fun game - super rendition.

  • 1. Guy behind you looked bored lol

    2. EPIC BEARD

    3. Awesome Playing XD

  • @flobbywelly The guy behind him (pianist Will Perkins whom you can see in some other videos of mine) was very tired; it was after midnight. This is also Tom's second time through the tune, so all the laughter and smiles in reaction to the tune have passed. And he did indeed laugh along with Tom when the Maple Leaf quotes came along.

  • 0 Dislikes for the win.

  • I just love how watching how much fun he is having playing this nerdy music on the Piano. Tom is amazing at piano and I wish I could be as good as he is someday (that won't happen).

    Cheers

  • you should look into THE CANTINA BAND song from star wars. btw tom is the best ever

  • You can tell this song is from Earthworm Jim because, at least to me, it sounds funny you know? Like it was meant for something funny

  • another track from that game that's really cool is "andy asteroids", i bet tom would like it

  • @bonerwall I've yet to find or make a transcription of that. It's a real barn-burner, so he'd definitely have fun with it.

  • @Keeper1st please please get him to play it soon :D

  • Far better than my second run.

Then again, I was playing just the treble chef.

Then again, I was trying it on guitar.

    -But, far better. Awesome performance!

  • Favorite game growing up.

  • i hated this level

  • oh cool! you know what, I listened to the incredible machine rag, and its so close to maple leaf as well! I hope you post the sheets for it :) I was going to mention I heard a somewhat of a "maple leaf sound" in the toypop song posted of Tom Brier playing it, you know.. in the second part.

  • @LudwigVonKoopa64 I already have posted the sheet music for the Incredible Machine ragtime tune... I'm sure by now you know in which folder I put it! Look for "incmach3.pdf" in that directory if I remember right. As for Toypop's second strain, well, the rhythm of the right hand is similar for the first few bars, but the left-hand rhythm is different as are the chords, so I don't think it's any kind of paraphrase really.

  • @Keeper1st I actually have the midi for the The Incredible Machine's rag directly from the game if you're interested. I'd really like to hear Tom play that one.

  • @GooBootheWarrior I made a score for it several months ago. I sent it to YouTuber "yukimatsuri" who has posted a video of himself playing it. I need to edit my score though, as he came up with a better fingering for the end of the second strain.

  • ok.. hmm I hear like a really messed up "maple leaf rag" at parts haha thats funny..

  • @LudwigVonKoopa64 Yeah, direct quotes only in the key of C. I just make a sheet music score of another tune -- a ragtime tune from "The Incredible Machine" -- that is more of a paraphrase of Maple Leaf at parts, rather than a direct quote like this one.

  • DAYMN @ That neckbeard

  • I hear a hint of maple leaf rag mixed into this. What a nice tune

  • @aaaaayum More than a hint -- outright quotes, though this tune is in C whereas Maple Leaf was published in A-flat (and in E-flat in the song version).

  • "the original arranger was deathly afraid of having to move his left hand more than an octave, it seems -- well, tough, dude; this is ragtime"

    ^^

    Nice vid!

  • @miankl2004 Your request came just a day before this was recorded. I was up until 4 a.m. making the sheet music so I could show it to Tom! I'm surprised this outright rag had never been brought to my attention before. Great tune.

  • Needs to do Andy Asteroids next.

  • @Aberusugi Definitely. That's my favorite Earthworm Jim song.

  • @Aberusugi Just looked that up. I might have to transcribe it someday. It's a good rompin' stompin' piece like Redneck Rag.

  • A tune from Earthworm Jim? As if I couldn't love your choices enough already, I'm not familiar with the piece itself but I have very fond memories of Earthworm Jim.

  • @XxDEBUGxX I never played the game, but the TV series was awesome. I thought it would be awful, being a show based on a videogame, but it was terrific. I also have the three-issue comic book series.

  • @Keeper1st

Yes, over here in England it used to come on in the mornings followed by the Super Mario Bros show and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Certainly the high point of cartoons for me.

  • The playing, the music and the tone are great. Is the tone of Piano tuned for the Ragtime? In 1998, I have heard that Masanobu Ikemiya played "Kitten On The Keys" with the Square-Piano tuned for Ragtime. Both are similar.

  • @yukimatsuri I don't think the piano was tuned specifically for ragtime. It is more than 100 years old, though, if I remember correctly, so it comes from the ragtime era. Its high notes are very crisp with fast decay, like some pianos from the 19th century I have heard. That is unlike most modern pianos. It is almost impossible to play this piano quietly. I believe Ikemiya played a square piano in Missouri. That piano is four semitones flat!

  • @Keeper1st

It is wonderful that the piano more than 100 years old is still used. He(or she?) will sing Ragtime cheerily all the time from now on.

  • @Keeper1st

    Lol, vent of frustration?

  • now you got me into playing that game. XD

  • 0_0

That's how i'm planning on doing when I get older. Just sitting and playing amazing piano pieces =)

  • I like the crumpled up sheet music as the paperweight for the other music.

  • @MellowCypriot Actually, that's a coffee mug wrapped in a hand-made cozy with the Maple Leaf Rag printed on it.

  • @Keeper1st

I should expect nothing less from you rowdy ragtime enthusiasts...

  • @MellowCypriot Chip has a lot of stuff with the Maple Leaf Rag printed on it -- a band around his hat, tablecloths... even the bedsheets and blankets we use during these weekends! We're truly wrapped up in ragtime!

  • great performance mr. brier once again :)
