As an 11 year turntable dj who's gone to Berklee for classical composition, i can assure you that all composers sampled in their own fashion with Handel being the best example; It's just that time has made their samples too obscure to reference. And it has nothing to do with rap but rather the current state of music in general. ie. it's not like brittany spears can play a violin or write her own songs. Scapegoating rap leaves yourselves to be picked apart by accusations of racism or bias.

ill be the first one to admit that taking sum1s riff and looping it is very easy,,i come from a family of artists and composers out of Poland,,but i grew up in new york in the 90's and cant help that i love hip hop,,,it was all i knew,,only the wealthy towns had decent music programs,,what do u expect from the poorest people in new york to do?? sampling was very affordable and so used alot,,we didnt have pianos n violins to play,,we play drums on buckets in the subways and earned respect<<

Hip hop infuses classical music into it via mixing. Hip hop does not compose classical music for the purpose of using it in songs. I don't remember the last time Jay Z or Snoop Dogg played a violin at their concert.

If you are talking about exceptions, such as Alicia Keys, who plays the piano and composes her own music - that's not hip hop. She is not rapping. She actually has talent - a voice and musical abilities.

Cmon dude,,u aint gonna find real hip hop on tv or mainstream radio,,i aint talking bout the ice n money n hoes commercial bullshit,,there are many REAL hip hop producers that play violins n pianos n cellos etc...i compose many original pieces myself that r hip hop,,u have to stop stereotyping based on an era where everything hiphop was sampled,,theres a new breed of us that grew up on sampled stuff who are playing REAL instruments< We are NOT the garbage u c on tv!!!!

In that case I commend you. Its good to know that people like you still exist - although many are probably underground.

But you have to admit it is a rarity. The garbage you hear now does not require any form of talent. Mainstream rap/hip hop is a joke.
