He imposed a "windfall profits tax" on the oil companies which caused the price of gas to go even higher, much higher. Apparently he thought that the way to help America pay less at the pump was to take more oney for the government. Oh yes, there was the brilliant way he dealt with Iran. Why he brilliantly aided in the ousting of the Shah (an American ally). After that the Ayatollah took over followed directly by an invasion of the American Embassy and taking of hostages.
