  • My V50 does not have a DSP section. Just creamy tooby goodness. I've never heard of a palomino V50 with DSP.

  • My point is don't concern yourself with what logo your amp or guitar has. It's not like it used to be years ago when you HAD to spend lots of cash to get great tone. Now you can do it with any gear at 1/4th the price!! My whole rig on any given night playing out cost me a max of $500.00 and I get other players coming up to me saying they cant believe my tone after they see I use peavey Guitars and a crate amp..Oh the nerve of me huh? LOL

  • Sounds great! I have the Palomino V50. Bought it used for very short money. Just re-tubed it with JJ's all the way 2x EL34 and 4x 12ax7's and honestly this is now one of the best sounding amps I've ever owned. I honestly dont care that it's a Crate. I've been playing guitar for over 25 years and have owned many amps including several JCM Marshall's and this beasts dirt channel more than holds it's own against any JCM I've ever played through. To boot the clean channel puts it over the top.

  • The Palomino V50 has 2 EL34 power tubes and 4 12AX7A preamp tubes.

  • Excellent demo. I have one of these I bought new from GC about 4.5 years ago, it was hands down the best tone for the money at the time. Gigged w/ it for 2 yrs and was a solid performer (only prob is am about to start playing again and the tolex is mildewed, eww..)

  • Funky baby!!!

  • @margovallen Thanks so much ! just a little demo.

  • write it in the google: crate v50 palomino. there are a lot of pics and also reviews.

  • hello!

i have a chance to buy a v50 palomino. do you think that's as great as this V32 or I should wait for a v32 palomino.thanks!

  • @mvd1te There is a V50 but no V50 Palomino. The Palomino is the V16 / V32 EL-84 powered amps. The V50 is 6L6 powered and totally different, it is good but much different.

  • @SIXSTRING63

I have a 50 watt 2/12 Palamino. Two channel,6L6 power section and a (only decent) reverb. No digital processing onboard, thankfully. The gain channel is a bit muddy but the Clean is extremely nice and I use it with both strat and ES 335 guitars. Its a very good amp. But the 50 watt package is just too dang loud to be useful. I also have a Palamino v16 And it works better to overdrive without splitting the eardrums.

  • @SIXSTRING63 there actually is a palomino 50...i saw one on craigslist

  • @mvd1te Well, I stand corrected. But looks to be a 6L6 based power section though like the plain V50 which will sound different than my EL-84 powered amp. I have played a plain V50 and it sounded good so I'm sure it would be a cool amp.

  • @SIXSTRING63

    thanks!

  • one more question. can you tell me the type of the speakers in your amp?

  • @SIXSTRING63 yeah i honestly think the el84 is the best way to go...i've got the v16 and run it through a 412 and it sounds incredible. i've also just purchased a fender hot rod deluxe but the gain channel on it is terrible so i found a guy on craigslist that wants to trade a palomino 32 for it and i'm gonna do it because i think these palomino'sare some of the best sounding tube amps on the market!!!

  • @mvd1te It has some Crate model Celestions in it. They are not the greatest but work good.

  • great playing. i'm thinking about getting a palomino v50, but i've heard that they're very different from the v32s. could you plz tell me the difference as far as tone goes? thanks,

  • @IAMJOHNNYTHEFOX Yeah, they are different for sure. I have a buddy with a V50 and it is a 2* 6L6 output where as the V32 is 4 EL-34 output. The V50 has built in DSP effects and crap where the V32 just has a spring reverb. The V32 is a more straight forward Vox AC30 type amp.

  • Isnt that a 1X12 in the picture? I have one-never part with it! The reverb is a 'lil' weak but they are Fantastic sounding.(Get HOT-use a lil Fan) You really do a nice demo!

  • @1701mcfly No ,it's a 2*12 just had the aspect screwed up on the camera.

    Mike

  • could you play a small venue with this amp?

  • @bloodyknuckleben Yes, without a problem.

  • @SIXSTRING63 thanks

  • I dig. Nice NICE jammin Holmes!

  • Can you please tell me if there's EQ for both channels? Thanks a lot.

  • @apeman34 No, the same EQ for both and that is one thing I don't care about on this amp, I use a lot of clean and dirty so I have to use pedals to keep the clean sound I want, I only use the amp's OD for slight 'dirt'

  • Hi!, i have the palomino v50, but i can't get that super crispy sound that you've got there, did you change the power tubes or somethuing else?, can you please help me with a cool clean EQ???, great playing also.

  • @Mayhem2414 The v50 and the V32 are two different animals. The V50 is 6L6 output tubed and the V32 is EL-84 like a VOX so it will be more chimey on top. On this I had the treble and mids about 12:00 and the bass about 9:00.

  • MAN !!!! THAT RIFF AT 1:56-1:59 SMOKES ! DANG !!! TONE TONE TONE !!!

This sounds 100% as good as the 2 Marshall JMP MK2 Master Model 50 watters I had! At LEAST as good, if not better. I was trying to decide on a Palomino or a VC33 at GC for $249. This Palomino would be worth Xtra Bucks.

Thanks for a above average demo. Some on YouTube would make a Billy Goat Puke!

  • @ThePeaceOfJesus Billy Goat puke LOL that's funny and I know what you mean.

  • To those looking into crate - keep in mind, the palomino and Vintage series (USA made - seperate 3 band EQs) are quite a bit different than what you're going to find in the big-box store nowadays - made in China, single EQ.

The china made is a great buy assuming you are going to use stomp for your dirt. But if you want two usable channels straight from the amp, find yourself a 2X12 on craigs.

  • @frankbarbarino You make an excellent point here. I use my EQ for my clean setting and the amps OD side for some break up on hard digging... Other than that I HAVE to use pedals.

  • @frankbarbarino Not sure what you were talking about man. Mine is Chinese made and has separate eq's and sounds as good as any Marshall I've ever played through.

  • Sweet tone ,Crate did make several gems, Gotta know what to look for,Have a Red Voodoo, Sammy Hagar cabinet with vintage 30,s,that thing is my prized possession ..

  • i play shows usually mic'd up...do you think this would be loud enough?

  • @hawaii5o1966 PLENTY LOUD, I play mic'd and man I am only at about 4 on my clean settings... Usually play to 125-200 ppl

  • These amps rock. Great playing

  • Wow, at what volume were you playing? The amp has that saturated tube sound.

  • @KrankySourPants Not real loud but enough to get a little feedback.

  • Yes these amps get VERY hot lol. Sounds great though, gets plenty loud and has alot of really warm sound.

  • This is one of the most underated amps out there.....can be put up against Vox AC30's and is 1/3 the price...those that got their hands on these ones were lucky...they no longer make them....Awesome amp.

  • Does this amp have 2 channels?

  • Yes !

  • Is this exactly the same as the Crate V3112, only in white? That's what I have heard, just making sure...

  • They are wired up a little different from what I have seen and heard.

  • dude, i just bought this amp and i fuckin love it, best deal i ever got, paid 210 for the same one..... they do get hot though, im going to install a pc fan in mine.... hey dude, nice playing by the way

  • nice tune, what effects are you using with this? also i've heard this amp gets hot on the knobs, any truth to that? they say its so hot you can fry an egg on it. if so should a fan be used? thanks in advance

  • No effects , just straight in. It run warm but I've played 4 hour gigs with out issues. Most EL-84 set ups run hot anyway.

  • the knobs only get warm but if you were to put a fan in the back.on the opposite side of the board it would help cool it down.but almost all tube amps are going to get warm.just becuase the they have tubes in them. You don't want them to run cold but you don't what to run them to hot either.

  • What kind of speakers do you got in there?

  • They are the stock Celestion's that it came with.

  • do u use this amp often

  • Quite a bit , seems to work good so far.

  • do these things have effect loops?

  • Yes they do. Mike

  • how's the clean headroom on this amp?

  • The clean channel is very loud with plenty of headroom. Mike

  • wat guitar r u usin?, n howd u get the sustain to go into that harmonic sweetness was it cranked?

  • It is a Carvin DC200 Koa wood 2 humbucker guitar. It was not even close to cranked, it is a good little amp for the money.

  • I have a V32 and i would say its at 5/10 volume MAX in this. This sucker absolutely cranks

  • do you know if your amp is one of the made in USA or made in Vietnam models? thanks

  • It's a Vietnam model . I've taken it apart and gone through any potential problems. It seems well built for $299 new.

  • i have the american model, bought brand new for $600. couldnt be happier

  • Hey, i might buy this amp. Would you say is loud enough for gigging?

    Peace

  • With out a doubt this thing is loud enough for gigging. I've used mine out on some gigs where I did not want to haul my big rig and it kicked ass and had volume to spare.

    Mike

  • I know but 30 watts, can that be enough for handling a big party? I´m going to buy my first all tube amp, and want to make a good choice, I live in mexico and they selling me 30w head with the 2x12 cabinet, at about 800 bucks. Which is good for an all tube amp here in mexico. I've seen them cheaper on ebay, but Anyway, what other tube amp would you recomend for this budget. like 800-1000 bucks

    peace

  • Wow ,that is a lot of $ for a Palomino head/cab combo . I only paid $300 for the 2-12 combo brand new. You can get a 100 watt Peavey Valveking and 4-12 cab for under a $1000 or a Carvin XB 4-12 100 watt head and 4-12 cab for a $1000 even. Carvin has a store in San Diego ,I don't know how close you are to there but it is a thought.

  • I have this exact same amp, I love the thing, great amps.

  • I have the same amp, what are your settings?

  • I can't remember exactly but I think the gain was about 3:00 ,the treb about 10:00 and the mid about 2:00 and the bass at 9:00 with the boost on.

    Mike

  • Great playing btw! This amp was a rare gem for it's time. It's too bad they didn't stick with it. The ony class A equivalents even remotely in this ball park, used no less, would be THD uni-valves and bi-valve's. You are very lucky to have scored this.

  • Rock On Mike

    ☆☆☆☆☆

    Shane

  • Thanks Shane ! Mike

  • Great playing!, very nice!, COngrats

  • Thank you. Mike

  • i love it!

    i need it!

  • Thanks Man. I grabbed a few when they were going cheap. Mike

  • Thanks a lot Bro ! Mike

  • SUPERB!!! I had a whole different idea about Crate amps. Well.. this one is different for sure !!!

  • Hey George ,this is all tube El-84 output ,similar to an AC-30 setup. It came stock with Celestions though not great ones. Tone could be better with different speakers. Mike

  • Sounds great Mike!

What does an amp like that cost if you don't mind me asking?

Stay safe & keep rockin' Bro!

    Mike

  • Hey Mike ,I paid $300 for this and $200 for a Crate V18 212 that I bought for modding. The Palomino sounds pretty good stock as you can hear, though the EQ could be modded for better control. Crate has discontinued all of these amps that is why they went cheap. You don't always have to spend 3k to get good tone. Mike

  • what guitar do you use?

  • On this it was just a cheap ESP H-300 with Carvin PU's in it. Mike

  • I really love your playing and the amp sounds nice...I never was an EL 84 guy,but they sound alright in this video... I'm putting in some EL34B's in my marshall,or KT77's not sure yet I need more research... but Satch is so right Mike,it is your playing that makes that amp sound so killer...Your chops are A1 brother....Ray 5/5

  • They sound pretty good in the Class A set up. I have an old Peavey 50/50 EL-84 power amp I use in my rack rig and I love the tone from that . Thanks Ray for having a listen. Mike

  • maybe that's the kind of amp i need'

    i'm using a Roland

  • All tube amp with Celestions and reverb for $300. Can't beat it. Mike

  • I'm going to see if my neighborhood music joints carry it

    and try it out

  • I hate Crate, or am I thinking of carvin... I dunno, not rich, not like a good boutique amp or something awesome :)

  • It's more of a Marshall vibe than a Fender but the clean channel is warm and thick.

    Mike

  • thats a damn nice soundin little amp, but your playing is what makes it sound awesome. crate sure has come a long way. they make so many different amps

  • Thanks Satch. Since they were selling these things dirt cheap I bought this and a V18 Crate 212 too. The V18 has a ton of mods you can do to it including a Soldano mod that is cool, I think I'll try it and post it when done. Mike

  • Nice amp 63!

  • They were practically giving them away so I said WTF and I was pleasantly surprised.

    Mike
