WOW has been out for 6/7 years now which is why it's hard for any starter mmo to compete with all the content they've built into it over the years. I haven't had chance to play SWTOR yet (getting it shortly after XMAS), but from what i've read/watched i'm very impressed - they've brought lots of new elements to the mmo table, and as long as they have good strong base-game there's no reason why they shouldn't succeed.
@1ucif3r0u5 Ya with SWTOR still being new they still have much more to offer since they're not as old as WoW. I do hope BioWare begins to expand the class story into more Acts as they increase the level cap and add more content for higher levels so there would be more to do at higher levels. Not to mention some of the Class story endings for their current endpoints does hint there is more to coming in their class storyline.

@Markurn It depends. Sentinals are higher DPS, but tanking as a Guardian has an important place in PVP. Tanks are far more versatile in SWTOR PvP than in other MMOs I've played, much of which comes from the Guard and Taunt abilities. Guard transfers 50% of the incoming damage on your target to you, letting you tank a bunch of the damage that your healer/DPS are taking. Taunt makes the enemy target deal 30% less damage to any other player than yourself (for 6 seconds).
@coredumperror thx, are u sure sentinals are higher dps in pvp? i mean they have 1 more damage tree and now they are also better in dps, instead of just different? i mean what about burst dmg is the sentinel still better? i heard not, could it be that the sentinel is just a better pve dmg class given the skills and options u get with it instead of a pvp class?

That bar is known to jedi as "focus" and its like warrior's mana, you need to charge it up to be able to use heavy attacks and other skills, so basically its ur mana bar. :)
@XXNAVYSEALX You can google the specs, it's less than Skyrim's recommended but still a little up there, even though this game is designed to still run off low end computers. As for which is better it depends. Guardians get heavy armor, and can either DPS or Tank, but Sentinels are limited to DPS but they get dual wield. Depends on what you're looking for, and which is more aesthetically pleasing(some people like the single wielding clone-ish armour wearing Jedi, some the dual wield)
Can u do like a super awesome saber throw forcecharge combo? Where u throw the saber at him leap t the target and catch the saber in the air and booom!
I wish they could lay off Mace Windu. Yes, in the movie he sucked, but in the the very first clone wars series, they dedicated one episode on Mace. He kicked ass.
not a big fan of the fact that using 1 or 2 lightsabers determines your advanced class, thats just kind of dumb.. It should have nothing to do with how many lightsabers or type of lightsaber you are using.
@TekkenPlayer4Life The fact that you can equip one or two lightsabers doesnt "determine" your class. What determines your class is which one you choose to play. Each AC has different abilities and a much different play style. Using one or two lightsabers is only a side effect of choosing an AC.

All in all each force based class is doomed to use 1 type of lightsaber with no option option of choice.

I mean in many other games there's a big selection of weapons but if you were a tank why would you want any other option than a Shield and Sword. Or if you were a rouge, why would you want anything other than dual-wield daggers? I mean sure you can be a Mage that runs around with a two-handed ax that has +some warrior stat, but why would you do that? So it's the class that you choose that "dooms" you to a weapon. Right?
@KylePealatere Ok first of all why would you even use that as an example. This game has to do with lightsabers & guns. Theres no daggers/axes/shields. etc. Also there are lots of mmo's out there that dont just doom you to a single weapon that "works best" you atleast get a couple choices. But the thing is in this game not being able to choose what type of lightsaber you want to wield is very odd. Every advanced force class is locked into using 1 type of saber. Thats just weaksauce all in all.

This game looks really awesome. I only have one concern. I really hope there are alot of customization options for my character and also for my character's costume. That may not matter much to some people but it really matters to me. So let's hope I get alot of customization options....

i would argue that wow is the best MMO we have seen thus far, but the new expansion is pretty ridiculous. MMORPGS are a niche genre, they should remain a niche genre, and their characteristics and framework should remain focused for a more intelligent and patient type of player. Stop erasing the lines between genres!
I hate, hate, hate, hate the main end game armor they show for Jedi Knight. I hope all Jedi and Sith can switch out gear. I think they should do what DC UNIVERSE Online does. Switch gear to get stats, but you can use the look of any gear you already collected just for show. This would be great if they add that. So that you can be top tier gear, but look like you are in cloth robes if you want.
Very nice walkthrough. I appreciate all the hard work you did to compile it! It was really nice to have all the info in one place, especially since I missed the conventions this year.

@Markurn It depends. Sentinals are higher DPS, but tanking as a Guardian has an important place in PVP. Tanks are far more versatile in SWTOR PvP than in other MMOs I've played, much of which comes from the Guard and Taunt abilities. Guard transfers 50% of the incoming damage on your target to you, letting you tank a bunch of the damage that your healer/DPS are taking. Taunt makes the enemy target deal 30% less damage to any other player than yourself (for 6 seconds).

That bar is known to jedi as "focus" and its like warrior's mana, you need to charge it up to be able to use heavy attacks and other skills, so basically its ur mana bar. :)

@XXNAVYSEALX You can google the specs, it's less than Skyrim's recommended but still a little up there, even though this game is designed to still run off low end computers. As for which is better it depends. Guardians get heavy armor, and can either DPS or Tank, but Sentinels are limited to DPS but they get dual wield. Depends on what you're looking for, and which is more aesthetically pleasing(some people like the single wielding clone-ish armour wearing Jedi, some the dual wield)

not a big fan of the fact that using 1 or 2 lightsabers determines your advanced class, thats just kind of dumb.. It should have nothing to do with how many lightsabers or type of lightsaber you are using.

@TekkenPlayer4Life The fact that you can equip one or two lightsabers doesnt "determine" your class. What determines your class is which one you choose to play. Each AC has different abilities and a much different play style. Using one or two lightsabers is only a side effect of choosing an AC.

Didnt mean to say it backwards but thanks for taking the time to say im "right" even if you said it a different way. Cause not matter how you look at it thats exactly what it is. Example if im an "assassin/shadow" then im using a double bladed lightsaber and nothing else.... All in all each force based class is doomed to use 1 type of lightsaber with no option option of choice.

I mean in many other games there's a big selection of weapons but if you were a tank why would you want any other option than a Shield and Sword. Or if you were a rouge, why would you want anything other than dual-wield daggers? I mean sure you can be a Mage that runs around with a two-handed ax that has +some warrior stat, but why would you do that? So it's the class that you choose that "dooms" you to a weapon. Right?

@KylePealatere Ok first of all why would you even use that as an example. This game has to do with lightsabers & guns. Theres no daggers/axes/shields. etc. Also there are lots of mmo's out there that dont just doom you to a single weapon that "works best" you atleast get a couple choices. But the thing is in this game not being able to choose what type of lightsaber you want to wield is very odd. Every advanced force class is locked into using 1 type of saber. Thats just weaksauce all in all.

WoW players QQ more please. I am so ready for another mmo to show what it has to offer. wow does nothing to change it's style of play it's always been the same. Two games will show that wow has to do more then add more health and increase the damage output. Starwar ToR and Guildwars Two. mainly guildwars because their system is based off if you are not if front of the attack it will miss. People say wow gets better because it takes idea's from other mmo's. guess what ALL mmo do it.

WoW was good pre b/c that is when wow had something not this same thing over and over. If you srsly don't feel like the fights blend please try other games they do other things rather then from time to time change. Jesus look at dbm it's what every wow player uses.

You want to know why wow is good, because it takes ideas from other mm's and makes them better, and have you seen some of the things comming out in mists of pandaria, some of them are from swtor, such as no more auto attack. So you can go enjoy the new kung fu panda game as blizzard slowly destroys the game, and its all because of the players.

i would argue that wow is the best MMO we have seen thus far, but the new expansion is pretty ridiculous. Blizzard knows they're entering a year where they'll face stiff competition from games with better technology and innovation, and their incentive to keep players is...(like you said) kung fu panda??? Ive always thought since ~2007 that the only way WoW can die is if blizzard lets it die, and that looks like its under way already :/

You really think SWTOR was the first to do this? It is in no way an innovative MMO release, it's standard, typical, average. That's what it is graphically and gameplay wise though, when it comes to story and dialogue I'm sure it will be great. Just remember that it is popular because of its franchise name - not the gameplay.

@mchuge6497 indeed, WoW almost completely removed the difficulty and time investment of leveling, raiding, and gear progression to attract the mainstream majority of casual gamers, while a good money making idea, it completely ruined the development of the genre since. MMORPGS are a niche genre, they should remain a niche genre, and their characteristics and framework should remain focused for a more intelligent and patient type of player. Stop erasing the lines between genres!

I hate, hate, hate, hate the main end game armor they show for Jedi Knight. I hope all Jedi and Sith can switch out gear. I think they should do what DC UNIVERSE Online does. Switch gear to get stats, but you can use the look of any gear you already collected just for show. This would be great if they add that. So that you can be top tier gear, but look like you are in cloth robes if you want.

I kinda was expecting more out of this game. I´m a big fan of SW and i know the game´s not even out yet. Here´s what bothers me:
1- Point and click system - you select a target and use skills
2- Character designs - come on, jedi using armor? or a cape?
3- Graphics and gameplay - go see the graphics/gameplay of Guild Wars 2 and you´ll know what i mean.
I mean, it has the SW appeal, it has cool story and all, but... like i said, it´s like its something missing in the game.
