Moore and Franzen are a fine pairing, the two most over rated writers in America. I find Moore utterly unreadable, an absolute fraud in fact. 'Freedom' has it's moments and at it's best is something like a Roth novel he soon decided to abandon. It's a decidely weak era for AMerican fiction, with only Roth, McCarthy and Denis Johnson producing first rate fiction.
@grai Yes, I think you are correct. I tried searching for the first few lines, thinking that would be just as good as anything else. It turns out that websites selling Runescape, WoW, and Final Fantasy XI gold use shorts bits of novels to hide links in? Or something?
Anyway, thanks for the answer. I had sort of given up hope.
@balthazord It is definitely 'A Gate At The Bottom Of The Stairs' - I had the brainwave to actually PICK UP THE BOOK and skim through the pages to the actual passage! Which took all of 3 minutes!!- says it all about the internet doesn't it - we will all eventually realise the internet is just a tool for information - real books are - well - real
The passage is a love scene the main character has with a Portugese speaking Brazillian guy she meets at college called Reynaldo
