Songbird looks cool, I'm looking for an alternative to Winamp, which I have used and loved for the past 8 years. I was also looking at mediamonkey, which seems to be better in terms of functions and media library sorting etc. I will test both and maybe make a video :)
@farron200 no its just a media player like windows media player but you can import your music files from itunes to songbird...,i just downloaded songbird today!!!
my sidebar thing got stuck and now i cant make it bigger, like, the little thing where it saysL library, downloads, stuff life that, i cant change the size and its tiny. how do i fix this
I just downloaded this yesterday, and im so glad i did, its awesome. Definitely beats itunes easily. I was getting sick of itunes anyway, I've been using it since like ever, and it still won't let u customize anything.
I don't know what theme that is (never used songbird but I think thats what the app normally looks like). The song he is playing is from Air - 10000 Hz Legend.
When I install Songbird. My anti virus software NOD32 pop up a warning said that this software Songbird is a Trojan software. So I give up trying it and get rid of it.
so i have i question so if you find a song you like can you download it and put it on your mp3. will it be legal b/c i know you can download songs but i don't know that is legal? any any one please tell me thanks you.
I believe it is legal, b/c you are not downloading the actual mp3, you are just saving the direct URL to the mp3. Anyone here, correct me if I'm wrong...
can u tell me how to change the librairy location kuz when i just install it .. i put the wrong location and since then i cant change it.. and i cant listen to any of my music.. plz reply me back .. and tanx.
obviously it isn't because i have used it for almost 3 years now and i've never gotten any malicious software from it. the only thing about limewire is you just have to know how to aviod them.
It doesn't come with it, but there are plenty of viruses within its p2p network that attach to the program itself and force it to download viruses like i said I havent had any problems with it in the past and still don't my virus software would have picked it up by now since my computer scans itself regularly.
If im an idiot then your definetly retarded because like i said there is no problem with limewire, i even took your adive and checked how much space it was taking up in add/remove programs and it says 21 mb as expected
Songbird is a great all round media player. Supporting all major formats. If you have dual/quad core you should have no problem running this app despite it being slightly bloated. I can see this kicking winamp and itunes ass, by 2010 it should be very reature rich and bug free! Obviously VLC is a league of it's own but i can see this replacing my current media player for windows!
Interesting application (which I'll be downloading the developer build of now). Let me just clear up something though, will you eventually be charging for this?
Because if so I'll jump right back to VLC at that point.
That's what I was wondering, but Wikipedia and songbordnest say it is free and open source under the GPL license. I think the thing at the end is stupidly and poorly telling us to watch how we spend money on music.
Notice how it takes about a half-second to pause after he clicks "pause." That's quite a lot of time when you're looking at an interface. The reason people look for alternatives to iTunes is the interface speed, and this is even worse. Yes, it is a beta app, but this should have been one of the first things to be hammered out. Also, the browser-within-an-app hasn't ever caught on before, why do they think it will catch on now?
I never knew it was so functional, I only had it on my computer for about an hour before I ran back to Foobar2000 which had certain features songbird didn't have and a much smaller footprint. (around 70,000 kb vs 9,000)
that is until I switched from windows to linux, and started using amarok which has quite a large footprint as well.
Looks pretty neat though, as soon as I get more ram I'll probably switch.
Well, actually it didn't work for me under Linux (Ubuntu 6.06) - at least the official package "Developer Preview". It sure is a sweet idea - yet I was unable to make it play mp3s and avis and whatnot...
Hey guys, ever heard of open source software? Thats the whole idea of this project. After its stable, then the add-ons will kick in real fast.
It uses the iTunes UI, yes, which is great. but can you use iTunes in Linux? Think not. So for us this will be awesome! (and for all the others too, after its 1.0)
FUCK this, what's up on my cd player bitch, enhance that. No, really, this is a great concept. But just to have someone smarter then me clear this up, what they're saying is you can surf the web while listening to music in one browser?
Hey, why not? Everyone likes iTunes' UI. But iTunes isnt skinable. Songbird looks like an open source version of iTunes with even more features. Whats not to like?
i didnt like the end kinda kreepy but okkk

actually it pretty much comes with the software and ur only protection is with something like sandbox
bullguard (dot) com/forum/10/Limewire-virus-hides-a-complet_24376.html
downloading isnt the problem its just the program itself that hides a folder which is can put any files in without u knowing
try frostwire at least.... its a different program that uses the same p2p network as limewire
frostwire . com
SpeedRacer98683 4 years ago

ur an idiot
try reading next time
it comes with the software and ur antivirus probably wont pic it up
it creates an invisible folder that u can never see and it fills that folder with random shit
over 2gb sometimes
do me a favor and go into your add remove programs and look for limewire and tell me how many mb it says it is

It does that because the song is played from the internet and not his hard drive... so the song is streamed in this video.
Zoodar 4 years ago
Nah, the Air song was local. Clicking pause needs to cut it when you click it.

Songbird will become the firefox of media players!
Why, it is a far more capable media player+jukebox than any other opensource media jukebox application for windows.
I think songbird and vlc should team up under an umbrealla body like firefox and thunderbird are under mozilla corporation.
