I purchased this laptop to replace my bulky six year old HP laptop. My primary use for a laptop is for pleasure, I'm not an avid gamer, nor a programmer. My needs are simple, internet for search functions, office software for work, downloading pictures off the camera, storage of old pictures, movies, etc.My old laptop was repaired ...

So, this is also not available in Europe? And what is the big difference between the actual HP Pavilion DM1 and the ''11.6''' HP Pavilion DM1? Is it only the model? Please tell me, i'm about to buy one like this.
I had a look at this laptop yesterday, and I really like it. It's a very decent little 'puter actually. Now of course, I'm a Mac user and I love Mac OS X and can't stand Windows, so it's not for me, but for a Windows user? Sure. Go ahead and buy it before HP exists the PC market.
@GammahooX Well, that depends. The OS X needs to support the graphics chipset, etc. But it is probable that you know a lot more about that than I do. I would appreciate any hints! Is there an easy way to buy OS X legally from the App store and (well, *illegally* I suppose) put in on the HP DM1? It really is a nice machine. Not as nice as an iPad of course, but still nice.
@MowgliX Well it's not that Apple uses Magic in their stuff. :P Since they use regular processors it runs on pretty much every pc. I don't know if you can actually buy the OS alone from Apple but I don't think so. :P
@GammahooX Yes you can. OS X 10.7 Lion is only $29.99 at the Mac App Store. All you need is an Apple ID and a Mac running OS X 10.6.5 Snow Leopard or later so you can purchase and download the system. The license allows you to install Mac OS X 10.7 Lion (it's a complete OS, not an upgrade) on any machine that you own, as long as it was made by Apple and supports 10.7 Lion, obviously. So legally, you are not allowed to install it on, say, a HP or Sony machine, though it might be possible.
@GammahooX Also, the HP DM1 has a processor and an integrated graphics chip made by AMD, while OS X only supports Intel-based hardware and discrete graphics, as far as I know, though I might be very wrong there. It would certainly be fun if Apple would allow and even facilitate the use of OS X on 'puters from other manufacturers, but that isn't going to happen, and there are very good and obvious technical, financial and legal reasons for that.
I'll be honest, the dbag who said your voice was boring and croaky is a sadist and likes to tie up naked young boys and plays with them for hours and hours.
test wow playing vs asus 1215n wow play. wich its beter? this AMD cpu oviusly beats even the atom dual core 1.8ghz when you read the benchmarks but... the ION2 beats the AMD gpu under this procesor. so they compensate and perform equal or the ION2 is just too good and plays a beter WoW?
I had a HP mini and the freakin hinger fell off, what a piece of shit, so watch out when you open and close it all the way, it loosens the screws and you have to send it back to HP. but they will pay for the repairs. but you pay for shipping and the assholes at their repair shop downloaded Windows Media Player on it without my permssion.
@abdilc i have this model and with all details in low it is possible to do quests and 5-men dungeons...it is not though a very pleasant experience with frames varying from 10-20 fps max
raids and pvp is totally out of the question, however the new hp dm1 with the AMD Fusion APU introduced in CES 2011 should be able to cope with these reasonably (its graphics score something like 4 times more than the older model in 3D Mark 2006)
I think ima get me this one, found this netbook for only 465 euro, I need a laptop to do normal tasks like browsing and microsoft office tasks but I also want it to be able to play HD and streaming video's properly which this netbook seems to do quite ok.
I wanted maximum portability with decent RAM and a hdmi out.
This laptop is pretty much exactly what i wanted, except for 2 problems:
The trackpad is without a doubt the worst ive ever used. it is truly horrible. Its not very responsive, its slippery, and the buttons are loud.
The other thing is, if i am upstairs in my house, and i start up the laptop, or bring it out of sleep mode, it has trouble identifying my wireless network.
@Griesmayer 10" and smaller in a netbook. Its not because there isnt a CD drive that it means its not a laptop. 11" and bigger its a laptop. Get your facts right
which one would be better Dell 11z and Hp dm1? Im looking for one, including good processor, at least ram 2gb, and hard 250gb. cuz i usually handling lots of tasks at the same time, photoshop, and several basic stuffs. hp is now on sale for about $500, with free upgrading 3gb ram, DD3, 250GB hard. i think its worth..thiner than 11z, even though using 6 cell battery.. but 11z is pantium, and it has three usb ports and when it has 4 cell battery, its gonna be thiner and lighter than dm1.
@dandymegan I'd go with the hp. I've been hearing lots of bad stuff about dell, and well me and my mom's desktops are both hp and we love it. plus i agree with @Chrisjr2007, if you plan on multitasking (especially photoshop) i suggest you max out the ram and the hard drive.
I bought one last week for my kid student and I am so impressed that I may buy one for myself.
Superb build quality and overall a nice implementation. Screen size is excellent. Keyboard is excellent.
It is certainly not a gaming machine - a netbook is not intended for that! Dual processor works well. It is a highly capable netbook for a mobile professional, student, or someone just wanting a really light but sturdy and effective machine.
u heard from people who dislike HP. HP laptops or notebooks arent bad. They are pretty durable. Better than MSI or EEC and some other brands such as toshiba who also makes mini notebooks.
No not good for gaming, but good for HD video. If you need gaming, need to spend a bit more for something like the UL30vt. If you need to stay cheap try the Ion netbooks such as Asus 1201N
Hi. How would you compare this one to HP MINI 311:
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit, Intel(R) Atom(TM) Processor N280 (1.66GHz, 512KB L2, 667Mhz FSB), 3GB DDR3 System Memory (1 Dimm), 250GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive, NVIDIA ION with a 5-in-1 Digital Media slot (For the N280 processor), 11.6" diagonal HD LED BrightView Widescreen Display (1366 x 768) .
Thats what I can get for about £150 more than DM1 and just wonder if its worth to pay extra,or take DM1? Hope you can help. Thanx.
your wrong, the celeron is great for netbooks (especialy this one its duel core) and usually if a pc has a celeron in it it usually has other bad hardware (ex/ my old laptop had a celeron but only 512 ram and when it forze it was the small amount of ram, the cpu only had 10- 20 load)
do you have windows 7 on there or windows xp... the one that comes with it?? idk if i should either get the windows 7 or jst stick with the xp if there really isnt that much of a diff.

If you mini PCIe card is an SSD, then it won't work as they aren't electrically compatible.
Asus just used the connector for their netbooks rather than designing a new connector, which is now a de-facto standard.
