  • very very clean engine bay

  • nice,but i like rabbit 1,6 diesel:)

  • Love it! If I had one of these, I would drive it EVERYWHERE.

  • @Ferrariman601 So would I if we had cheap gas like you guys in the US, it's currently just under £6 a gallon here, that's $10! This country is being crippled by high fuel taxation :-(

  • @enpeemac Totally agree. We in America complain about having "high" prices (about $3.50 per gallon in my area), but we so quickly forget about you guys paying well over twice as much!

I'm not sure exactly why prices keep rising, but it's got to be some sort of combination of supply and demand, over-taxation, and sheer greed.

Whatever the cause, fuel prices are really hurting a lot of people, and making it all the more difficult for us motoring enthusiasts to enjoy our cars.

  • @enpeemac how's it in GB with alternative fuels - CNG and LNG? they're cheapest to fit on engines with carbs. and tanks would, i guess, have somewhere to fit.... nice video, no burning tires, no beating the engine, i like it very much! we had a beetle, it was wonderful! take care of your camper!

  • @bluemoondiadochi Thanks for the comment. In the UK, all we do get LPG (liquid petroleum gas) which is generally about 1/2 the price of regular petrol (gas). The problem is the cost of conversion means it takes about 50000km before you save money, plus engines are less efficient on this fuel.

Sadly this year I have lost my job so the camper sits unused for another summer due to the cost of fuel :-( Is this the beginning of the end for the internal combustion engine?

  • @enpeemac i'm sorry to hear you lost your job! guess things arent looking pretty in whole of europe.

but, end of IC engine? by far no!:)

there IS a last option - wood gas generator. it's complicated to make, cheap, but doable, and you drive on cheap/free fuel. for more info check out "vedbil.se"... it was used a lot in WW2. the engine has 60% power on wood gas, but it's enough to get you around on flat country - for hills shift to petrol.

  • @enpeemac No man its just the beginning! hydrogen cell technology is where its at, even tho the governments try to hide it from us. I got plans for one off the internet for a hydrogen cell system designed by Stan Meyers (look him up on youtube). He put his system on a vw powered dune buggy in the 80's and it worked and would cross the US on an estimated 22 galoons of water! Soon as i rebuild my Bug and Bus motors im building the system for both of them.

  • VW Sound ist the best !!!

  • your beard is amazing :D

  • Hmm.. Tight on garage space.. hah

  • Where did you get the sheet metal kit to install a Dog House Motor in a Pancake engine bay configuration?

  • @kombibus The upright 'doghouse' 1600 T1 motor was standard fit in UK spec T2s 1972-1979; pancake engines where an extra cost option. All the relevant tin is still readily available in Europe except the rear tin (over exhaust) which is now hard to find as it usually rusts out. If you look at UK companies vwheritage, or just kampers you'll see what's what. Also try a UK company called megabug for used parts.

    HTH.

  • Sweet as a nut that. Loving the regulation oil puddle under it too!

  • that sliding door is very handy in your garage lol

  • Next time, drain the tank, fill with fresh fuel, and charge the battery.

  • @djaca70 Why? The fuel was OK and the battery already charged.

  • @enpeemac this van an in-line 4 right?

lol hows it on gas ;P

  • @Gibson299 The engine is the ubiquitous VW flat four/horizontally opposed/boxer configuration. On a run it does around 25-30mpg (UK gallons) or 11.3-9.4 litres per 100km.

  • Watcha. Nice to hear the beast running. Gosh its a tight fit in garage. To save on battery when starting fit an electric pump like on the Morris or summing similiar. Primes all the pipework. Also get rid off that plastic fuel filter they cause many car fires. If you go to a good lawnmower spares shop they have metal versions. I think I have a new one somewhere. If I find it its yours. Mick

  • Looks and sounds fine, no need to pump the carb that much. one pump will re set the choke and thats all it should need.

  • @WindyJAMiller Yes, when there is fuel in the float chamber, the one pump method is correct. In this case, the engine has sat for so long that the float chamber and fuel lines are dry. The reason for the frantic pumping is to get petrol into the manifold asap. The accelerator pump sits low in the float chamber, so when the engine's sat for so long and the system is dry, this is the quickest way to get fuel into the engine when cranking.

  • Sounds fine, and not to hard to start after that time.

    Cheers,

    Phill.

  • whats that bip sound ? :P

  • @Boocho88 Beeping is the alarm, I need a new battery in the remote.

  • Well she fired up ok I thought, considering. And you didn't have any funny coloured smoke emitting from the exhaust pipe, so all looks good I say.

I like these particular VW campers. The engine looks and sounds great.

Great video. Thumbs up from me :-))

  • @Bevoin1970 Thanks, if I'd primed the carb at the beginning I reckon she'd have started more or less on the button. All I need now is something resembling a summer this year!
