Oh, yeah. If you maintain them properly, they will give you 200,000+ miles. I will say though, parts can be on the expensive side, but if you find a good independent mechanic they are pretty reasonable. But things rarely go wrong with them.
saab is a man's car. you got to be able to handle it. i got a 9-5 2.3t estate and today, some wee boy racer "tried" (poorly) to show off and think he could "race" me thinking he was a smart arse.(i put him in his place....2nd behind me lol))...anyway... the wee numpty nearly lost his Suburu and crashed it while racing me on a straight, then round a roundabout. lmfao. 1-0 to saab and experieced drivers who know how to REALLY drive. :))
OK lemme tell you something dude. You say power is nothing without control. That is true BUT Saab doesn't make the 1.9 TTiD with AWD thats why you can end up in the woods on a straight road when you step on the pedal.
It is a pitty that GM never gave the due attention to SAAB to make it more popular than Mercedes. SAAB may not have the most beautiful cars on Earth, but they are the safest definitively!
I think Toyota has reasons for smile, because they have less brands and it already overtaked Ford and, as said by some economists, it prepares to overtake GM even in 2008!
P. S.:
When i speaked about the cheap engine on SAAB, it was about diesel engines.
SAAB has not plans to adapt the XWD to the convertible. :( So sad. Maybe they are following a "secret-weapon" strategy for launching it after competitors, like BMW or Audi will launch on the market an AWD cabrio.
Fiat has bad reputation in Europe too (my father had one and is one more proof of the rule). They equipped Opel/Vauxhall with Fiat motors on CDTI models (Curious, my father has now an Opel with 2.0 CDI engine!). In my opinion, 1.3 CDTI seems too low for a reliable diesel engine.
And now with SAAB, they are discarding the world-known swedish quality products, and providing the customer with a cheap engine!
When GM bought Daewoo, they have simply had put the logo of Chevrolet, which as i ear from persons of the American Continent, is a great brand. Daewoo is a cheap-workmanship motorcraft and has bad reputation in Europe, even the most insecure car in the market is produced by them.
I agree when people say that SAAB is being assassinated by GM. It's what they have done with Bedford and Isuzu. And they are not bad reputation brands. Even Toyota has invested on Isuzu to use its diesel technology on Toyota Cars.
My father had a Bedford van which mechanical part was made by Isuzu. Other parts were from GM and Bedford. It was really obvious that the GM parts missed a good quality control. Fortunately they didn't the mechanical part.
Stick the TTid 180bhp, save your money and hirsch a 150bhp Tid to 175 its quicker and far cheaper. But having the 275bhp petrol is still far better than a derv and looking the the 280bhp turbo x mine is still quicker.the only thing quicker than my 2.8v6 hirsch is its depreciation lol but i still love my saab
Thanks for the feedback. I agree, SAABs are awesome cars. Always have been and now they are starting to really come into their own. What an exciting time as it is the first time since SAABs inception that the rear wheels will have power transferred through them. This is truly a historic vehicle in that regard.
Wow great video looking forward to trading in my 03 9-5 :P

@ElectroToChillout I also have a 9-5 2.3t as well.
Is it just me or does the car kinda start off sluggish from 0-30mph? And after that, thats when the car starts flying.

One of reasons for loving Saab is that for not being so commercial (my point of view)

I completely agree! SAAB was the best company GM ever had, and they could have really taken them to a higher level. I still love them though.

Saabs are well made and with European quality.
Except the 9-7 and 9-2 which are GM's way of trying to use the brand to make some money.
